INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the Topcon Ez Capture for DC-4.
INTENDED USE / INDICATIONS FOR USE
You can use this software when the Topcon Digital Photography Unit DC-4 for Slit Lamp is
used.
FEATURES
The following functions are offered by connecting this software with the Topcon Digital Photog-
raphy Unit DC-4 for Slit Lamp.
• The DC-4 camera can take a picture and at the same time it is possible to save, view and
delete the captured image.
• It is possible to enhance contrast while viewing images.
• It is possible to print images while viewing images.
PURPOSE OF THIS MANUAL
This manual outlines the Ez Capture for DC-4 including operating. Always keep this user
manual at hand.
Precautions
• Using and reproducing of the software and/or the User's Manual, in whole or in part, without
permission from Topcon Corporation, is strictly prohibited.
• Please use this software according to this User Manual.
• This software will use the hard disk of a computer to save the photographed image (or
movie) temporarily. Before using a hard disk, make sure that its free capacity is sufficient.
• Connect the DC-4 and computer with the special LAN port. If the DC-4 or computer is con-
nected wrongly, the Network may be adversely affected or the DC-4 may not operate prop-
erly.
• This User Manual is made on an assumption that the user already has knowledge of the
personal computer (PC) and Microsoft Windows operating systems. This User Manual does
not describe details on how to handle common operation procedures of the PC and
Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• For handling a computer and operating Microsoft Windows, refer to the user manual
attached to each of them.
• If you have made a mistake in handling a computer or operating Microsoft Windows and
this software, the files contained by the computer and Microsoft Windows or this software
may be destroyed.
• Specifications of this software and descriptions of the User Manual are subject to change

Getting started
To activate Ez Capture, click on the " Start" on the Windows desktop, click "All Programs" and then
click "TOPCON EzCapture"-"EzCapture" on the Menu. Or double-click the shortcut icon of [Ez Cap-
ture] shown in "Ez Capture icon" on the desktop to start Ez Capture.
Startup Screen
Ez Capture is started and the following startup screen is displayed. The startup screen may be cus-
tomized by setting. Refer to "Setup of Ez Capture". In the factory setting, the "Slit", "View" and "Exit"
icons are displayed in portrait orientation.
NOTES
• Log in Windows with a user ID of administrator authority. Ez Capture for DC-4
requires administrator authority.
• For using Ez Capture for DC-4, please set off the sleep function of Windows.
If Windows gets to sleep while Ez Capture is working, there is a possibility that
unexpected problems may occur after resuming from sleep.
If Windows gets to sleep, please restart the computer.
NOTES
When starting Ez Capture, the message "Ez Capture or Ez Capture Configura-
tion is starting" is sometimes displayed. In this case, check if Ez Capture or Ez
Capture Configuration has already started. If each of them does not start yet,
restart the computer. Then, restart Ez Capture.

Operation Icon
Icon/Name Description
Capture
Starts the photography module registered in Setup.
(For registering the photography module, refer to "Icons of Ez Capture" of
"Setup of Ez Capture". In the example on the left the displayed name is set
as Slit.)
View
Starts Windows Explorer and opens the image saving folder.
Folder
Specifies the folder where the image is to be saved.
Exit
Exits Ez Capture.
Shutdown
Ends Windows.

Configuration Setting
Click [ Start] - [All Programs] - [TOPCON Ez Capture] - [Configuration], and "Ez Capture Configu-
ration screen" appears. You can set up Ez Capture.
NOTES
• Configuration cannot start simultaneously while Ez Capture is starting. Please
start Configuration after exiting Ez Capture.
• When Windows UAC (User account control) is set to ON, the "User account
control" screen appears. Click the [Yes] button on the screen to proceed to
the next step.
Button Function
Setup Ez Capture Starts the setup screen of Ez Capture.
Extended Capture Module Starts the setup screen of the extended capture module.
Print Starts the setup screen of the print.
Exit Ends the setup screen.

Setup of Ez Capture
Select [Setup Ez Capture] on the "Ez Capture Configuration" screen, and "Setup Ez Capture screen"
appears.
Setting item Description
Icons of Ez Capture Checkbox group:
Sets whether or not to display the operation icon that can be displayed
on the startup screen. Click the checkbox of a target operation icon and
mark the checkbox.
The items will be displayed in the order of "Capture", "View", "Folder",
"Exit" and "Shut down" which you selected.
"Full path of extended capture library for Capture" column:
Specifies the extended capture module. Use the [Browse...] button to
activate the "Open the file" dialog. In the dialog, set the full path of the
extended capture module.
"Text" column:
Sets the display name of the extended capture module.

Options Sets the following options. Click the checkbox of a desired option and
mark the checkbox.
• Open capture window when starting Ez Capture.
• Enter ID before opening capture window.
• Enter ID after capturing.
• Do not close capture windows after saving.
The features "Enter ID before opening capture window" and
"Enter ID after capturing" are not available simultaneously. An ID
assumed when the ID input function is not used is defaulted
(TOPCON, DC-4).
Turning On the "Do not close capture windows after saving."
function starts up the next capture window immediately after the
images are saved. Turning off this function terminates the cap-
ture window for which the images are saved.
Look of Ez Capture Selects the orientation (Vertically long/Horizontally long) of the Ez Cap-
ture startup screen.
Folder Setup "Folder to save captured images" column:
Selects the folder where the image is to be saved. Sets the folder by
using the "Refer to folder" dialog that appears when the [Browse...] but-
ton is pressed.
Checkbox group :
Select the folder setup from the followings.
• Make ID folder in specified folder.
• Make Date folder in specified folder.
• Do not change folder when saving.
Turning On the "Do not change folder when saving." function saves
images in the "Folder to save captured images" that has been set.
Turning Off this function starts the "Refer to folder" dialog when images
are saved to let the user select a folder to save images.
You cannot place a check mark for two or more items.

File name The setting here is applied to the Ez Capture saving file.
List :
This list includes items that may be used for file names.
List :
This list includes items used for file names. The items are used for file
names in order from top of the list.
• To add an item, select one from List and press the [Add ->] button
to add it to List .
• To delete an item, select one from List and press the [<- Delete]
button to delete it from List .
[Up][Down] button:
Click the [Up] button, and the item selected in List moves up by 1
step. Click the [Down] button, and the item selected in List moves
down by 1 step.
"Prefix, Digits of sequence number, Separator" column:
Specify "prefixes, digits of sequence number, and separators" respec-
tively as items used for file names.
Enter a prefix in a maximum of 12 alphanumeric characters.
Note that the signs "\ / : * ? " < > |" cannot be used.
Specify the minimum digit number for "Digits of sequence num-
ber". If the digits of the number to be added to a file name are
less than "Digits of sequence number", "0" will fill in the blanks at
the head portion of the number. If the digits of the number to be
added to a file name are more than "Digits of sequence number",
use the number without changing.
If numerals are missing in a sequence number, the missing por-
tion will be filled.
Setting example:
When items used for file names are "ID, name, date, time, procedure,
R/L", digits of sequence number "3", separators"_" and the file is saved
in the file format "JPEG", the file name (example) is as follows:
000-00-0001_TOPCON_20130601_151014_DC4_Image_L_001.jpg
File format Select a file format from among the four file formats (JPEG, TIFF, PNG,
BMP). Click the radio button to select one.
For JPEG, quality setting is available. Select either High quality or
Standard quality.

Setup of Extended Capture module
Select [Extended Capture Module] from the "Ez Capture Configuration" screen, and the "DC-4 Grabber
Setup" screen appears.
Setting item Description
Web Address Sets the Web address of the photography screen.
Open DC-4 Setting Displays the "DC-4 Setting" page.
Display message for
saving
Place a mark in the checkbox, and the message to check the quantity
of the images (or movies) to be saved is displayed when saving them.

DC-4 Setting page
Select [Open DC-4 Setting] from the "DC-4 Grabber Setup" screen, and the "DC-4 Setting" page is dis-
played. On the [General] tab of "DC-4 Setting page", you can set the following items.
NOTES
The "User account control" screen appears by clicking the [OK] button on the
"DC-4 Setting" page, when Windows UAC (User account control) is set to ON.
Click the [Yes] button on the screen to proceed to the next step.
Setting item Description
Image directory Primary
Specifies the place where the image log file is temporarily saved during
photography.
Secondary
Specifies the place where the image log file is temporarily saved when
the capacity for Primary is insufficient.
The free capacity of 20GB or more is necessary in one of the
specified "Primary" and "Secondary" drives.
Log directory Specifies the place where the photography log file is temporarily saved.
The free capacity of 512MB or more is necessary in the specified
drive.
Dummy ID Sets the patient ID to be used when a patient is not specified.
This setting does not use for Ez Capture. Setting will be not avail-
able.

Dummy name Sets the patient name to be used when a patient is not specified.
This setting does not use for Ez Capture. Setting will be not avail-
able.
Thumbnail selection style Sets the image selection method in the case of "ALL IMAGES".
IMAGEnet style:
You can select two or more thumbnail images. Select images as
pressing the [Ctrl] key on the keyboard, and the selective state is
reversed.
Windows style:
When selecting two or more thumbnail images, select them as press-
ing the [Ctrl] key on the keyboard. Click the images as pressing the
[Shift] key, and the images in the clicked range become the selective
state.
Disable multi session Place a mark in the checkbox, and multi session is prohibited. When
multi session is prohibited, it is prohibited to change two or more
patients to each other and photograph them.
Make images copy during
photography
Place a mark in the checkbox, and an image (or movie) is automati-
cally exported to the specified folder whenever photographing.

Export file name Sets a file name to be used when exporting an image (or movie) is
exported.
List :
This list includes items that may be used for file names.

Image file format Specifies the file format of image for export.
Movie file format Specifies the file format of movie for export.
Auto export directory Specifies the destination when exporting an image (or movie) automat-
ically.
Manual export directory Specifies the destination when selecting an image (or movie) on the
photography screen and clicking the icon to export it.

On the [Capture] tab of "DC-4 Setting page", you can set the following items.
Setting item Description
Still Procedure Color Sets the procedure name for the color photographed image in
"Still" mode.
B/W Sets the procedure name for the monochrome photographed
image in "Still" mode.
Size Sets the resolution for the photographed image in "Still" mode.
Live Sets the display of a live image in "Still" mode.
ON:
Displays a live image in "Still" mode.
In the first photographing process, a live image is displayed.
When photographing once more while the live image is being
displayed, the still image photography is performed.
OFF:
Does not display a live image in "Still" mode.
In the first photographing process, the system does not dis-
play a live image but performs the still image photography.
In "Movie" and "Multiple" modes, a live image is dis-
played by first photographing.

Movie Procedure Color Sets the procedure name for the color movie in "Movie" mode.
B/W Sets the procedure name for the monochrome movie in
"Movie" mode.
Size Sets the resolution for the photographed movie in "Movie"
mode.
Recording time Sets the recording time for the movie in "Movie" mode.
The photographing operation during the recording stops
the recording process before the setting time.
According to the processing speed and loaded status of
CPU, the recording process is sometimes stopped
before the setting time.
Multiple Procedure Color Sets the procedure name for the color photographed image in
"Multiple" mode.
B/W Sets the procedure name for the monochrome photographed
image in "Multiple" mode.
Size Sets the resolution for the photographed image in "Multiple"
mode.
Interval Sets the photographing interval for "Multiple" mode.
Before trigger Sets the picture count before photographing in "Multiple"
mode. You can save the image before photographing as the
photographed image.
After trigger Sets the picture count after photographing in "Multiple" mode.
The total picture count obtained by adding the pictures before
photographing is the picture count in "Multiple" mode.
Slit lamp type Sets a slit lamp to be connected.
Select delete file Place a mark in the checkbox. You can select and delete a
captured image (or movie). The captured image (or movie) is
not automatically reserved to be deleted.
Remove a mark from the checkbox. You can select and save
a captured image (or movie). The captured image (or movie)
is not automatically reserved to be saved.
Show sequence number Place a mark in the checkbox, and the captured image count
is displayed.
Default eye Sets the eye to be photographed when the photography
screen starts.
Set this item when SL-2G is used and the eye to be photo-
graphed at the startup of photography is always decided.
This item is valid only when [SL-2G] is set for [Slit lamp
type].

Print Setup
Select [Print] from the "Ez Capture Configuration" screen, and "Write Template Setting screen" (setting
example) appears.
When you perform the print setting for the first time, specifies the setting name from "New" before start-
ing the setting. The setting will be completed after setting the template file and the printer name.
The template file is installed to "C:\Program Files\TOPCON\EzCapture\Plugins\Print". When it is nec-
essary to adjust printing, contact your dealer.
Annotation Enable write to
image
Place a mark in the checkbox, and the image information is
written on the captured image.
In "Movie" mode, the image information is not written.
Font size Sets the size of the characters when writing the image infor-
mation on the captured image.
Date format Specifies the format of the date when writing the image infor-
mation on the captured image.
ID Specifies the position of information (the patient ID, the captur-
ing date, the procedure name and the captured eye) written on
the image.
When specifying [SL-2G] for [Slit lamp type], captured
eye is not written.

Trimming Trimming capture Place a mark in the checkbox, and the captured image in "Still"
mode is trimmed by the specified ratio.
The images (or movies) captured in "Movie" and "Multi-
ple" modes are not trimmed.
Left (%)/Right (%) Specifies how many percents of the area will be trimmed from
the right/left of the image. You can set up to 99% for the total
of the right and left.
Top / Bottom (%) Specifies how many percents of the area will be trimmed from
the top/bottom of the image. You can set up to 99% for the
total of the top and bottom.
OK Saves the setting and closes the dialog box.
Cancel Closes the dialog box without saving the setting.
