1. Place thespringsintothebracketson themower
withthehookedendsovertheraised back ofthe
bracket(Fig. 1).
2. Align thedischarge chutewiththeholesinthe
bracketsand thespring straightendsinthespace
underthehinge and abovethe chute(Fig. 1).
3. Securethe chutetothebracketwith bolts
through thedischarge chute,springsand
brackets.Securewithlock nuts(Fig. 1).
4. Lift thedischarge chute and checkthat it is
spring loadedand pivotsfreelytothefull down
position.
IMPORTANT:Thedischarge chutemustbe
springloadedinthedown position.Lift the
chuteup totest thatitsnapstothefull down
position.

mower bladesunless youmovethepower
takeoff (PTO) to “OFF” and turnthe
ignition keyto “STOP.” Alsoremovethe
ignition key and pull thewire(s)off the
spark plug(s).

1. Position thetractorand mowersideby side,with
themoweron theright--hand sideofthetractor.
2. Set theparking brake,raisethe attachment lift,
stop the engine,and removetheignition key.
3. If you havepreviously hadasnowthrower, blade
ortillerattachedtothe attachment lift,remove
thetwoclevispinson eachsideofthe
attachment lift(Fig. 3).

Therearsupportwheelsare adjustedin differenthole
locationsfor1 1/2—4 1/2”(4--11 cm)heights--of--cut.
1. Start thetractor,applytheparking brake,and
raisethedeck. Getoff thetractor.
2. Pull theheight--of--cut leverout to disengageit
from thequadrant.Adjust theheightofcut to
thedesiredlevel.Releasetheleverinwardto
lockintothequadrant(Fig. 14).

Checking MowerLevel
Foroptimumefficiency, thelevelofthemower
should be checkedat thetimeofinitial installation
and periodicallyasa check, toensurethat theblades
are1/8”(3mm)lowerinthefront thanintherear.
Themowermustbe checkedand adjustedonaflat
levelsurface, preferablyconcrete.Before checking
themowerlevel,set the airpressureinthefrontand
reartiresas specifiedinthetractoroperator’smanual.
Place themowerheight--of--cut levertothemiddle
cutposition. Makesurethetwoadjustablefront
wheelsareoff theground.
Adjusting Front–to–RearBladeCut
1. Disengagethepowertakeoff (PTO),set the
parking brake,lowerthe attachment lift,stop the
engine,and removetheignition key.
2. Carefullyrotateoneoftheblades soit isfacing
frontand rear (Fig. 15).
3. Measurethedistance from thefront tip ofthe
blade(Fig. 15)totheflatsurface.Then
carefullyrotatethebladetip until it isintherear
position. Whenthebladetipisinthefront
position, it should be1/8”(3mm)lowerthan
whenit isintherearposition.

Becausethe attachment lift isusedwhenthePTO
driveisengaged, bladeslopeintransport mustbe
adjustedtoextend PTOdrivebelt life.This
adjustmentalso providesforadequatetransport
height.Three stepsaccomplishthis:1)Making sure
theliftarmcamsareinthesameposition, 2)
Measuring bladeslopeinitsfrontand rearpositions
and 3)Making adjustmentsifthebladeslopeisnot
withinspecification.
IMPORTANT:Failure to adjust forblade
slopeintransportcanresultin drivebelt
failure and/orinsufficient transportheight.
1. Checktosee thatbothadjustmentcamsare
orientedwiththeindicatortowardthepivotpoint
at therearofthetractor (Fig. 18).

3. Loosenthenutson the cams,rotatethe camsto
theproperposition, thentightenthe camnuts.
4. Start thetractor,raisethe attachment lift,stop
the engine,and removetheignition key.
5. Checktheslopeofoneoftheblades(Fig. 15).
A.Measurethedistance from thefront tip of
thebladetotheflatsurface.
B.Carefullyrotatethebladetip until it isin
therearposition.
C.Whenthebladetipisinthefrontposition,
it should be approximately 1/4”(7mm)
lowerthanwhenit isintherearposition.
6. If it isnot,start thetractor,lowerthe attachment
lift totakepressureoff the cams,stop the engine.
and removetheignition key.
7. Loosenthe camnutsand equallyrotatethe
left--hand and right--hand camsdowntoraisethe
frontofthedeck, orup tolowerthefrontofthe
deck. Tightenthenuts.
8. Repeatsteps4--7 until theslopeofthebladeis
approximately 1/4”(7mm)lowerinthefront
thanit isintherear.
Removing theMower
Themowerismosteasilyremovedfrom thetractor
when doneon alevelconcretesurface.Rougherdirt
orlawnsurfacesmakeremoving themowermore
difficult.
1. Applytheparking brake,start thetractor,and
raisethe attachment lift.
2. Getoff thetractor.Place themower
height--of--cut leverinthelowestcutposition.
3. Lowerthedeck until itsweight iscompletely on
itswheels, noton thetractor.
4. Stop the engine and removetheignition key.
5. Removethegrill.

thetractorhasbeenrunning.

·Contactwithrotatingmower blade(s)and

HOWTOAVOIDTHEHAZARD
·NEVERremovethedischarge chutefrom
themower becausethedischarge chute
routesmaterialdowntowardtheturf.If the
discharge chuteisever damaged,replace it
immediately.
·Never putyourhandsorfeetunder the
mower.
·Never trytoclearthedischargearea or
mower bladesunless youmovethepower
takeoff (PTO) to “OFF” and rotatethe
ignition keyto “STOP.” Alsoremovethe
ignition key and pull thewire(s)off the
spark plug(s).
Operating thePowerTake Off
(PTO)
Thepowertakeoff (PTO)engagesand disengages
powertothe electric clutch.
Whiletheignition keyisinRUN orLIGHTS
position and thepowertakeoff (PTO)isengaged, the
PTOindicatorlightwill beon. Whenthislight isON,
it isareminder: theimplement isbeing poweredand
thestarterwill notcrank whilethePTOisengaged.
Alwaysturn off thePTObeforegetting off theseat.
Engaging thePowerTake Off (PTO)
1. Depress thebrakepedal tostop themachine.
2. MovethethrottlelevertoFAST.
IMPORTANT:Forbestperformance, always
usefull throttlewhenthepower takeoff
(PTO)switchisON.
3. Pull thepowertakeoff (PTO)switchtoON (Fig.
24).

The attachment lift lever (Fig. 25 &26)isusedto
raise and lowervariousattachments.
Raising Attachments
1. Start thetractor.
2. Pull the attachment lift leverupward until the
latchlocks.Inthisposition, theliftwill holdthe
attachment intheup, or raised position.
POTENTIALHAZARD
·Whenthe engineisoff, attachmentsinthe
raised positioncangraduallylower.

·Someonenearbymay bepinnedorinjured
bytheattachmentasitlowers.

The center rollerguidesthemoweroveruneventurf
withoutscalping thelawn. Formostcutting
conditionsit should belocatedinthelowerhole.
Whencutting in11/2”height-of-cut,movethe center
rollertotheupperholeposition.
1. Raisethe attachment lift lever;refertoRaising
Attachments.
2. Removethe cotterpin, bolt and shaft tochange
holelocation (Fig. 27).
3. Select theholeposition fortheheight-of-cut to
beusedand insert therod (Fig. 27).
4. Securetherod withthebolt and cotterpin.

mm)off theground.
2. Toadjustwheelheightoff theground, remove
thehairpincotterand pintochangeholelocation

approximately 3/8”(9.5 mm)off theground for
theheight-of-cutposition to beused(Fig. 28).
4. Insert thepinand secureit withahairpincotter.
5. Repeat thisadjustmenton theotherwheel.

Eachtimeyou usethemower, besuretocheckfor
debrisbuilduponand insidethereartransaxle cover
(Fig. 29).Remove any build up.

TipsforMowing Grass
FastThrottleSetting
Forbest mowing and maximumaircirculation,
operatethe engine at“FAST.”Airisrequiredto
thoroughlycutgrass clippings,so do notset the
height-of-cutsolowastototallysurround themower
by uncutgrass.Alwaystryto haveonesideofthe
mower free fromuncutgrass,whichallowsairto be
drawnintothemower.
Using theMowerfortheFirstTime
Cutgrass slightlylongerthan normal toensurethe
cutting heightofthemowerdoesnotscalpany
uneven ground. However,the cutting heightusedin
thepast isgenerallythebestoneto use.Whencutting
grass longerthansixinchestall, you maywant tocut

Ground Speed
Toimprove cutquality, useslowerground speed. For
bestoperation on averagelawns, operate engine at
full throttlewhile controlling ground speedwith
transmission. Tractorshould beoperatedat2to 3.5
MPH(3.2 to 5.6 kms/hr) whilemowing grass.
Unevencutting isoftenaresult ofexcessiveground
speed. Tocorrect, uselowrangewiththehigh--low
lever, or reduce ground speedin high range.
AvoidCutting Too Low
If the cutting width ofthemoweriswiderthanthe
moweryou previously used, raisethe cutting height
toensureuneventurf isnotcut too short.Average
lawnsareusuallycutataheightbetween2and 3
inches(5--7.6 cm).

Long Grass
If thegrass iseverallowedto growslightlylonger
than normal, orifit containsahigh degree of
moisture,raisethe cutting heighthigherthan usual
and cut thegrass at this setting. Thencut thegrass
again using thelower, normalsetting.
WhenStopping
If themachine’sforwardmotion mustbestopped
whilemowing, a clump ofgrass clippingsmay drop
onto yourlawn. Toavoidthis:
1. Withtheblade(s)“ENGAGED,”moveontoa
previouslycutarea.
2. To dispersethe clippingsevenly, raisethemower
whiledriving forwardwiththeblade(s)
“ENGAGED.”
KeeptheUndersideof theMowerClean
Usethewashoutport tocleanclippingsand dirtfrom
theundersideofthemoweraftereach use.If grass
and dirtbuildupinsidethemower,cutting quality
will eventually becomeunsatisfactory.

becauseasharp blade cutscleanlywithout tearing or
shredding thegrass blades.Tearing and shredding
turnsgrass brownat the edges,whichslowsgrowth
and increasesthe chance ofdisease.Every 30 days,

any nicks.
