Thismachineiscapableofamputatinghandsandfeetandof

Thismachineisdesignedforcuttingandmulchinggrassor,when
equippedwithagrassbag,forcatchingcutgrass.Anyusefor
purposesotherthanthesecouldprovedangeroustoyouorto
bystanders.
GeneralOperation
•Readthismanualcarefullybeforeoperatingthemachine.
Becomefamiliarwiththecontrolsandproperuseofthe
machine.Neverallowchildrenunder16yearsofageto
operatethemachine.Neverallowadultstooperatemachine
withoutproperinstructions.
•Theoperatorofthemachineisresponsibleforkeeping
everyone,especiallychildrenandpets,awayfromarea
ofoperation.Theoperatorisresponsibleforaccidentsor
hazardsoccurringtootherpeopleortheirproperty.
•Thoroughlyinspectareawherethemachinewillbeused,
andremovesticks,stones,wire,anddebristhatcouldbe
pickedupandthrownbymachine.Watchforforeignobjects
whilemowing.Objectsstruckbythebladecancausesevere
injuriestopeople.
•Wearlongpantsandsubstantialshoes.Donotoperate
themachinewhilewearingopen-toedshoes,jewelry,loose
clothingorwhenbarefoot.Userubberglovesandfootwear
whenworkingoutdoors.
•Keepallguards,shields,safetydevices,grasscatcheror
optionalsidedischargechuteinplace.Repairorreplace
damagedparts,includingdecals.Nevertamperwithsafety
devices.Checktheirproperoperationregularly.
•Themotorandbladearedesignedtostopwithin3seconds
afterreleasingthecontrolbail.Ensurethatthecontrolbail
functionsproperlybeforeeachuseofmachine.Iftheblade
doesnotstopwithin3seconds,orifthereisagrindingor
scrapingmetal-to-metalnoisewhenyoureleasethecontrol
bail,contactanAuthorizedT oroServiceDealerforproper
On/Offandblade-brakeadjustmentorreplacement.
•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethattheblades,
bladefasteners,andcutterassemblyarenotwornor
damaged.Replacewornordamagedbladesandfasteners
insetstopreservebalance.
•Useonlythoseaccessoriesandattachmentsdesigned
forthismachine.Usinganyaccessoryorattachmentnot
designedforthisproductmayincreasetheriskofinjury.See
theinstructionsfortheproperoperationandinstallationof

SafeOperatingPractices
•Donotinsertthekeyintotheplugreceptacleuntilyouare
readytomow.
•Donotoperatethemachineingaseous,explosive
atmospheres.Normalsparkingofthemotorcouldignite

•Startthemotorcarefullyaccordingtoinstructions,withfeet

housingandthebladewhilethemotorisrunning.Theblade
caninjurehandsandfeet.Staybehindthehandleuntilthe
motorstops.
•Neverdirectdischargedmaterialtowardanyone.Avoid
dischargingmaterialagainstawallorobstruction.Material
mayricochetbacktowardyou.Stopthebladewhencrossing
gravelsurfaces.
•Useextremecautionwhenreversingorpullingthemachine
towardyou.Beforeandwhilemovingbackward,lookbehind
anddown.
•Sincethebladerotatesforafewsecondsafteryoureleasethe
controlbar,staybehindthehandleuntilallmovingpartsstop.
•Afterstrikingaforeignobjectorifthemachinevibrates
abnormally,stopthemotorandremovethekeyfromtheplug
receptacle.Checkthemachinefordamageandmakeall
repairsbeforeusingthemachineagain.Ifmajorrepairsare
everneededorifassistanceisdesired,contactanAuthorized
ToroServiceDealer.
•Donotoperatethemachineifithasbeendroppedor
damagedinanyway.Repairanydamagebeforeoperating
themachine.
•Stopthemotor,waitforallmovingpartstostop,andremove
thekeyfromtheplugreceptaclebeforeadjustingthe
height-of-cut.
•Stopthemotorwhenpushingthemachineoutsidethelawn
area.
•Stopthemotorandremovethekeyfromtheplugreceptacle
beforeremovingthegrasscatcher.
•Stopmotorbeforeleavingtheoperator’sposition—behind
thehandle.Removethekeyfromtheplugreceptacleifthe
machinewillbeunattended.
•Ifyoumustliftortransportthemachine,stopthemotor,stay
behindthehandleuntilallmovingpartsstopandremovethe
keyfromtheplugreceptacle.
MaintenanceandStorage
•Performonlythosemaintenanceinstructionsdescribedinthis
manual.Ifmajorrepairsareeverneededorifassistanceis

•Beforeyouclean,inspect,service,oradjustthemachine,
stopthemotorandwaitforallmovingpartstostop.Remove

•Exercisecareinhandlingbatteriesinordernottoshortthe
battery(contactbothpositiveandnegativebatteryposts)with
conductingmaterialssuchasrings,bracelets,andkeys.The
batteryorconductormayoverheatandcauseburns.
•Toensurethatthemachineisinsafeoperatingcondition,
frequentlycheckandkeepallnuts,bolts,andscrewstight.
Ensurethatthebladeboltistightenedto40to50ft-lb(54to
68N-m).
•Alwayskeepasharpbladeonyourmachine.Whenservicing
theblade,refertotheblademaintenancesectionfor
correctinstallationandservicingprocedures.Useidentical
replacementbladesonly.
•Toreducerehazard,keepthemotorfreeofexcessivegrass,
leaves,andaccumulationsofdirt.
•Checkthegrasscatcherbagfrequentlyforwearor
deterioration.Replaceawornordamagedbagwithan
identicalT ororeplacementbagonlyforyourprotection.
•Whenyouarenotusingthemachine,removethekeyand
storethemachineindoorsinadry,locked-upplaceoutof
thereachofchildren.Allowthemotortocoolbeforestoring
themachineinanenclosure.
•Atthetimeofmanufacture,thismachineconformedtothe
safetystandardsineffectforrotarymowers.Toassure
bestperformanceandcontinuedsafetycerticationof
themachine,usegenuineTororeplacementpartsand
accessories.Replacementpartsandaccessoriesmadeby
othermanufacturersmayresultinnon-conformancewiththe

handsorwhilestandinginwater.
Important:Forbestperformance,useonlyaToro
36-voltcharger(PartNo.119-0269or120-1909).
Ittakesapproximately12to16hourstochargeafullydischarged
battery.Fullychargethebatterybeforetherstmowingofthe
season,aftereveryuse,andbeforeoff-seasonstorage.Failingto
chargethebatteryaftereveryuseshortensthebatterylife.Charge
thebatteryevenifyourunthemachineforonlyafewminutes.
Note:Thebatteryischargedatthefactory.However,before
usingthemachineforthersttime,chargethebatteryand
ensurethatithasafullchargebeforeoperating.
Tochargethebattery,dothefollowing:

Operation
Eachtimebeforeyouusethemachine,ensurethatthecontrolbar
operatesproperly.Whenyoureleasethecontrolbar,themotor
andthebladeshouldstop.Iftheydonot,contactanAuthorized

UsingtheKey
Thismachineoperatesonlywhenthekeyisfullyseatedinthe
plugreceptacle(Figure5).T opreventaccidentalstartingor

BatteryRunTime
Withabattery-poweredmower,theconditionofthegrassandthe
waythatyoumowwillaffecthowlongthebatterywillrunona
singlechargeateachmowing.
Thefollowingaresomethingsthatwillaffectbatteryruntime:
•Moisturecontentofthegrass—Themoremoisturethereisin
thegrass,thefasterthebatterywillrundown.
•Walking/mowingspeed—Thefasteryouwalk,thefasterthe
batterywillrundown.
•Modeofoperation—Mulchingthegrassrequiresthemost
batteryenergy.Baggingrequiresthesecondhighestamount
ofbatteryenergy,andsidedischargingusestheleast.
•Cuttingheight—Ifthebatteryisrunningdowntoofast,raise
thecuttingheightanotch.
GeneralMulchingTips
Torodesignedyourmachinetomulchgrasswhenthemulch
dooriscompletelyclosed.Forthebestcuttingresultsandlawn

appearance,followtheseinstructionswhethercuttinggrassor
leaves:
•Maintainasharpbladethroughoutthecuttingseason.
Periodicallyledownanynicksontheblade.
•Onlymowdrygrassorleaves.Wetgrassandleavestendto
clumpontheyardandmaycausethemachinetoplugupor
themotortostall.
WARNING
Wetgrassorleavescancauseyoutoslipand
contracttheblade,causingaseriouspersonal
injury.
Mowonlyindryconditions.
•Removethekeyfromthereceptacleandcleantheclippings
orleavesfromtheundersideofthemachineaftereach
mowing.Useawoodentool,notametalone.
•Grassgrowsatdifferentratesatdifferenttimesoftheyear.
Intheheatofsummer,itisgenerallybesttocutgrassatthe
64mm(2-1/2inch),76mm(3-inch),or89mm(3-1/2inch)
cutting-heightsettings.Cutonlyaboutathirdofthegrass
blade.Donotcutbelowthe64mm(2-1/2inch)settingunless
thegrassissparse,oritislatefallwhengrassgrowthbegins
toslowdown.
•Whenchangingthecuttingheightfromanestablishedsetting
toahighercuttingheight,thegrassmayappearraggedor
unevenuntilthegrassadjuststothenewestablishedcutting
heightandregainsitsnormalappearance.
•Whencuttinggrassover15cm(6inches)tall,youmaywant
torstmowusingthegrassbagortheoptionalsidedischarge
chute,ortrythehighestcutting-heightsettingandaslower
walkingspeed;thenmowagainatalowersettingforthebest
lawnappearance.Ifthegrassistoolong,leavingclumpson
topofthelawn,themachinemayplugandcausethemotor
tostall.
•Alternatethemowingdirection.thishelpstodispersethe
clippingsoverthelawnforevenfertilization.
Ifthenishedcutlawnappearanceisunsatisfactory,try1ormore
ofthefollowing:
•Sharpentheblade.
•Walkataslowerpacewhilemowing.
•Raisethecuttingheightonyourmachine.
•Cutthegrassmorefrequently.
•Overlapcuttingswathsinsteadofcuttingafullswathwith
eachpass.
•Setthecuttingheightonthefrontwheelsanotchlowerthan
thatoftherearwheels.Forexample,setthefrontwheels
atthe76mm(2-1/2inch)settingandtherearwheelsatthe
64mm(3-inch)setting.
CuttingLeaves
•Whencuttingiscomplete,alwaysbesurethathalfofthelawn
showsthroughthecutleafcover.Thismayrequiremorethan
asinglepassovertheleaves.
•Forlightleafcoverage,positionallthewheelsatthesame
cutting-heightsetting.
•Walkataslowermowingspeediftheleavesarenotcutup
nelyenoughtobehiddendowninthegrass.
Maintenance
WARNING
Whenthekeyisintheplugreceptacle,themachine
isoperational.Someonecouldaccidentallystart
themachine,causingseriousinjurytoyouorto
bystanders.
Removethekeyfromtheplugreceptaclewhenyou
leavethemachineunattended,evenforashortperiod
oftime.
CleaningtheMachine
Beforecleaningthemachine,stopthemotor,waitforallmoving
partstostop,andremovethekeyfromtheplugreceptacle.
Important:Donotsprayorpourwateronthemachine
whencleaning.Moisturecangettrappedinthemachine
andcausecorrosionofinternalparts.
CleaningtheMachineafterEachUse
•Cleanunderthemachine.Beparticularlycarefultokeepthe
frontcavityclearofallgrassclippingsanddebris.Remove
dirtandgrassclippingswithahardwoodscraper.Avoidburrs
andsharpedges.
•Brushallgrassclippingsanddebrisoffthetopofthemachine
housingaftereveryuse.
CleaningtheMachineafterEach
Season
•Removethetopshroudandcleanoutanygrassclippings
anddebrisfromunderneathitandaroundthebatterywith
compressedair,avacuumcleaner,orabrush.
Important:Donotusemetalobjectstocleanaround
thebattery.Ifmetalobjectscontactthepositive
andnegativepostsatthesametime,thismayshort
outthebattery.Thebatteryortheconductormay
overheatandcauseburns.
•Checkforanydiscoloredorcharredwiresandbatteryand
switchcontacts.Ifanyaredamaged,contactanAuthorized
ServiceDealerforrepair.
MaintainingtheBlade
Alwaysmowwithasharpblade.Asharpbladecutscleanlyand
withouttearingorshreddingthegrassbladeslikeadullblade
does.
WARNING
Ifthekeyispluggedintotheplugreceptacle,someone
couldaccidentallystartthemachine,causingserious
personalinjury.
Donotattempttoinspect,remove,orreplacetheblade
withoutrstremovingthekeyfromtheplugreceptacle.
