Avoid displaying stationaryimages on your TV screen
forextendedperiods oftime. Stationarypatterns genemtod
by computer displays, video games, stock market reports,
etc. can become permanently engrained on the picture
tube. This damage is not protected by yourwarranty as it
is the result of misuse. Should you wish to use your
TOSHIBA Television to display still images, it is always
advisable to reduce brightness and contrast settings.
Never leave a computer or video game display unat-
tended.

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system
installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that
provides guidelines forpropergrounding and, inparticular,
specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the
grounding system of the building, as close to the point of

Installing YourTV
Where to install
Place the TV on the floor oron asturdy platform. The
mounting surface shouldbe flatand steady.
Lighting
Do not place the TV in aroom where direct lighting
strikesthe screen. Use soft and indirect lighting.
Air circulation
Place the TV far enough from the walls to allow
proper ventilation. This will prevent the TV from
overheating and avoid possible damage tothe TV.
Avoid dusty places too.
Power supply
Plug into an electrical outlet with standard household
power (120 volt AC, 60Hz). Do not change the plug's
safety prong. See the rightcolumn.
WARNING : TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY
ODo not stand orclimb on theTV.
• Do not put a VCR or any heavy object on top of the
TV.
CAUTION :
As asafety feature, the plug has one prong wider than
the other. It will fit only one way into a standard
electrical outlet. Ifthe plug will not fit into the outlet,
tryturningit around. If the plug will not fit eitherway,
the outlet is probably old and non-standard.
You will need to have a new outlet installed by an
electrician.

Connecting YourTV
If you're only going to connect theTV to your home antenna or Cable box, use the "Connection A". If you're going to connect
the TV to a VCR, video disc player or other equipment, use the "Connection B".
Caution: Do not plug the TV in until you have finished connecting all of your equipment.
Connection A: To connect an antenna or Cable box

Cable box* *Place your TV on channel 3or4 to match the outputchannel of the Cable box, then select
channels by using the channel keys of the Cable
box.
Connection B: To connect a VCR
This connection allows you to watch local channels andvideo programs,play orrecordon theVCR while watching TV, and to
recordfrom one channel while watching anotherchannel.
Note: If using a mono VCR,connect L/MONO to VCRAudio Out using only one audio cable.
To select the video input source, press the TI//VIDEO button. Seepage 15for details.

Preparing the Remote Control for Use
With theRemoteControl,youcanoperateyourTV,mostVCRmodelsand cableTVconverterstogether,eveniftheyare
differentbrands.If youwill be usingyourTV with aToshibaVCR,yourRemoteControlis alreadyprogrammedandreadyto
use.Ifyou owndifferentbrandsof VCRsand/orconverters,youfirsthave toprogramyourRemoteControl.(See
"ProgrammingtheRemoteControl"onpage8.)
Installing the Remote Control batteries
1Slidethebatterycoveroffof thebackoftheRemoteControl.
Press and slide to remove.

Caution:
•Dispose ofyour batteries in a designated
disposal area. Do not throw your batteries into
afire.
•Do not mix battery typos or combine used
batteries with new ones.
•Remove dead batteries immediately to prevent
battery acid from lealdng into the battery
compartment.
• If you do not intend to use the remote control
for a long time, remove the batteries.
2Installtwo "AA" size batteries. Match the + and - signs on the batteries to
the signs on the batterycompartment.
