2. INTRODUCTION
Accurate temperature measurements can be assured only when it is possible physically
to produce a legitimate basis for establishing traceability to temperature standards.
By setting a series of different temperatures, the inserted sensor/ display/recorder can
be calibrated accordingly.
The model TRAQC-3 may be used for all temperature sensors, incl. RTD'S and
thermocouples and temperature switches.
The use of model TRAQC-3 offers a number of great advantages above alternative
methods of temperature calibration, but requires that any user reads the instruction
manual very carefully and is aware of the fact that high temperature has to be
handled with care and only in areas without hazardous fumes or fire risks and get
acquainted with all the facilities offered by this field temperature calibrator.
2.1. Heating performance
The heating block is made from specially produced metal to achieve optimum heat
conductivity and is heated by resistance heating elements. The instrument is
electronically controlled and regulated with 2 push-buttons on the front panel.
The temperature is controlled by a precision platinum resistance thermometer (RTD
sensor) and an intelligent closed loop circuit.
2.2. Control Performance
In order to provide optimum use of the TRAQC-3 all control functions are available
through a RS232 interface.
Tradinco AutoCal Software for using the TRAQC-3 with a PC is also available.
The MS Windows based software is completely 'MENU' controlled and allows the user to
program pre-fixed calibration routines and run calibration routines fully automatically.

2.4. Operating instructions
1) Select the correct voltage by means of the voltage selector on the back of the
instrument.
Note : Although the instrument is well protected against incorrect setting of
voltage, this may result in permanent damage of electronics or incorrect
measurements.
Note : Please observe proper grounding of the instrument. Use supplied
power cord if possible.
2) Place instrument in a way that the ventilation hole on the back of the instrument is
not obstructed for proper measurement results.
3) Connect the power cord to the unit and turn it on
Note:A series if different numbers will be shown in the display. These will show
resp: 8888 : check all segments of the display.
Prog, then a number: this shows the software revision number,
XXXX : a code number for manufacturers use only,
XX: a code number for manufacturers use only,
Hr XX: The amount of hours the unist has been powered, the six digits after the “Hr”
represent the hours up to 99999.9 hrs
XXXX: see above.
4) Place unit under test in the Insert hole.
Note : It is recommended to use the centre hole for all measurements.
At special request from customers, the pattern of insert holes may differ, i.e. a
temperature reference hole may be ordered as a extra option.
With the up and down pushbuttons to any desired temperature between ambient + 5
°C and 375 °C can be set
5) Set the first calibration/test point.
6) After 1 second the display indicates the actual temperature.
7) Observe at least 5 minutes stabilisation time when the set temperature is reached.
Note 1 : While heating a led (O1) in the left upper corner of the display will
flash. Flashing will be intermittent and regular as the unit reaches the set
temperature.
Note 2. While cooling two leds (O2 and A1) on the left are switched on to
show the fan is running at high speed.
8) Follow steps 5 thru 7 for every calibration point.

9) For decreasing the temperature the same procedure as described above must be
followed.
Note : Please do not disconnect or switch off instrument until the indicated
temperature of the block is below 50 °C.
Note : The environment (temperature and draught), length and the mass of
the probe may influence the measurement considerably.
Note: If the manufacturer has enabled the most left button, one has access
to a part of a menu structure. Use of this feature is not required, Any change
may seriously change the behaviour of the instrument.
2.5. Temperature switch
Connect the temp-switch to the terminals and insert the switch in the hole
Set the TRAQC-3 for the desired temperature and let it stabilize.
Adjust the temp-switch so that the indicator-light switches at the desired temperature

2.7. Maintenance
Allow the TRAQC-3 to cool down as described in chapter 2.4.
Switch the TRAQC-3 off and disconnect the mains plug.
Cleaning TRAQC-3 with inserts:
A small amount of dust or pollution can cause jams when the instrument is operated
with inserts. To prevent this, remove the insert from the heating block at regular
intervals and if the TRAQC3 is not going to be operated for a longer period. Flush the
heating block bore with compressed air and clean the bore and inserts with a dry cloth.
Cleaning the fan grille:
Each TRAQC-3 is fitted with a small air grille via which cooling air enters the TRAQC-3.
Clean the grille at regular intervals (vacuuming or brushing) depending on the level of air
pollution.
External cleaning:
Clean the outside of the TRAQC-3 with a damp cloth and some water or with a
solvent-free mild cleaning agent. Disconnect the instrument from mains before cleaning.
Fuse:
Two Fuses of 3.15Amp (slow) need to be used.

2.8. Storage
Prior to transport or contact with the metal block ensure that it has cooled down to a
temperature below 50°C otherwise there is a risk of severe damage at the instrument.
In order to cool down the TRAQC-3 quickly, set the set temperature to a low
temperature, e.g. room temperature. Do not switch the instrument of or disconnect the
mains lead until the instrument has reached a temperature below 50°C
2.9. Recalibration
The TRAQC-3 is adjusted and tested with measuring equipment in accordance with
recognized national standards prior to delivery.
The TRAQC-3 should, depending on the application situation, be inspected at appropriate
intervals. We recommend you to return the calibrator to Tradinco at intervals
of max. 12 months for recalibration and service.
