Microprocessor Service recautions
Take precautions to prevent electrostatic disc arge w en servicing t e microprocessor and its related components.
Even tiny amounts of current can severely damage or destroy electronic components.
Observe t e following precautions w en servicing a microprocessor control system to avoid damaging electronic
components. Refer to t e appropriate microprocessor diagnosis manual for more information.
• If t e microprocessor as a power switc , turn it OFF before connecting or disconnecting t e battery.
• Disconnect power to t e unit.
• Avoid wearing clot ing t at generates static electricity (wool, nylon, polyester, etc.).
• Wear a wrist strap (P/N 204-622 or equivalent) wit t e lead end connected to t e microprocessor’s ground terminal.
T ese straps are available from most electronic equipment distributors. DO NOT wear t ese straps wit power
applied to t e unit.
• Avoid unnecessary contact wit t e electronic components.
• Store and s ip electronic components in antistatic bags and protective packaging.
• Leave electronic components in t eir antistatic packing materials until you’re ready to use t em.
• After servicing any electronic components, c eck t e wiring for possible errors before restoring power to t e unit.
• Never use a battery and a lig t bulb to test circuits on any microprocessor-based equipment.
Welding recautions
Take precautions before electrically welding any portion of t e unit or t e ve icle to w ic it is attac ed. Verify t at
welding currents are not allowed to flow t roug t e unit’s electronic circuits.
Observe t e following precautions w en welding to avoid damaging electronic components.
• If t e microprocessor as a power switc , turn it OFF before connecting or disconnecting t e battery.
• Disconnect power to t e unit.
• Disconnect all wire arnesses from t e microprocessor. Disconnect t e ECU and t e battery c arger if so equipped.
• Disconnect t e DCDC converter.
• If t ere are any electrical circuit breakers in t e control box, switc t em OFF.
• Close t e control box.
• Components t at could be damaged by welding sparks s ould be removed from t e unit.
• Use normal welding procedures, but keep t e ground return electrode as close to t e area being welded as
practical. T is will reduce t e likeli ood of stray welding currents passing t roug any electronic circuits.

Run Pretrip Test (see “Performing a Pretrip Test”). • • •
Engine and Unit Maintenance Items:
Download ServiceWatch data-logger - Check alarm codes, system operation,
function and take corrective action as required.
• • •
Check for faults and operation of the Blue Box. • • •
Check Advancer Controller software revision - Upgrades not included, add the
job code 05200
• •
Check fuel supply. • • •
Check and adjust engine oil level. •
Change engine oil (hot) and oil filter. • •
*Check and adjust engine coolant level and protection, maintain protection at
35 C (95 F) (or lower if operating in very low ambients).
• • •
Inspect compressor and water pump belts for condition and tension. Adjust/
replace when necessary.

Replace all belts. •
Replace belt tensioner pulley. •
Replace clutch bearings. Check clutch bushings and pins & inspect shoe wear
when compressor is removed.
•
Check water pump seal for weep age and bearing serviceability. • • •
Listen for unusual noises, vibrations, etc. • • •
Visually inspect exhaust system for leakage and abnormal smoke or particulate
emissions.
• •
Check and adjust engine speeds (high and low speed). Re-calibrate if required. • • •
Inspect cyclonic air filter element - Dependent on operating conditions, assess
fitness to continue to next service.
•
Replace Air Filter • •
Check air cleaner hose for security and damage. • • •
Drain water from fuel tank and assess fuel cleanliness where drain plug is
available.
