AutoMDI/MDIX
TheAutoMDI/MDIXfeatureallowseitherstraight‐through(MDI)orcrossover(MDI‐X)cablestobeusedwhen
connectingtodevicessuchashubs,transceivers,ornetworkinterfacecards(NICs).AutoCrossdeterminesthe
characteristicsofthecableconnectionandautomaticallyconfigurestheunittolinkup,regardlessofthecable
configuration.

LinkPass‐Throughisatroubleshootingfeaturethatallowsthemediaconvertertomonitorboththefiberand
copperRXportsforlossofsignal.WiththelossofRXsignalononemediaport,theconverterwillautomatically
disabletheTXsignaloftheothermediaport,thus“passingthrough”thelinkloss.

justlikeaconverterthathasnoLPTfunctionality,oraconverterthathasLPTisdisabled.TheDiagnosticstateis
helpfulduringfirstpowerup,beforealllinksofacircuitareconnected,asitallowstheinstallertoseeeachlink
turnonasthecablesarepluggedin.It’salsohelpfulforfindingthelocationofafault,ifoneexists.
ThemediaconverterremainsintheDiagnosticstateuntilthefollowingconditionismet:
Thelinkstatusforbothofthemediaconverter’sportsisup,simultaneously.
Afterthatconditionismet,ALPTenterstheActivestate.ItremainsintheActivestateuntiltheconverteriseither
powereddown,oreitherthecopperportorthefiberportlosesLink.IntheActivestate,ActiveLPTworksas
shownbelow(thesameaswhenregularLPTisenabled).

Far‐EndFaultisavaluablefeatureusedinamediaconverterwhenitlosesReceiveFiberlink,butstillhasavalid
FiberTransmitlink.
Whenafaultoccursonanincomingfiberlink(1),themediaconvertertransmitsaFar‐EndFaultsignalonthe
outgoingfiberlink(2).Inaddition,theFar‐EndFaultsignalalsoactivatestheLinkPass‐Through,whichinturn
disablesthelinkonthecopperportionofthenetwork(3)and(4).
