1. Before You Start
System Requirements
• USB ort:2.0 or 1.1
• CD-ROMDrive
• CPU:300MHz or above / 800MHz or above (Windows Vista) / 1GHz above

• Memory:256MB RAM or above / 512MB RAM or above (Windows Vista) / 1GB

2. How to Install
Im ortant! DO NOT install the USB Ada ter in the com uter until instructed to do so
1. Insert the U tility & Driver CD-ROM into your
com uter's CD-ROM Drive.
2. Click Run autorun.exe (Windows Vista/7 only).
3. Click Install Utility.

5. Click Continue Anyway
(Windows XP).
6. Click Finish.

the Wireless Ada ter. For Windows 2000 and XP, continue on to ste 9.

3. Using the ireless Adapter
1. On the bottom right-hand corner of the screen,
double-click on the w ireless configueration
utility icon.
2. Click Site Survey, select the SSID and then
click Connect.
3. If Encry tion is enabled on your access oint
or wireless router, select the Authentication
and Encry tion, enter the encry tion key and
then click A ly. T
ireless configuration is now complete

Trouble Shooting
I inserted the U tility & D river CD-ROM into m y com uter's CD-ROM Drive and the installation
menu does not a ear autom atically. W hat should I do?
1. For Windows 2000/XP, if the installation menu does not a ear automatically, click Start,
click Run, and ty e D:\autorun where "D" in "D:\autorun.exe" is the letter assigned to your
CD-ROM Drive, and then ress the ENTER key on your keyboard.
2. For Windows Vista, if the installation menu does not a ear automatically, click on the
Windows Icon on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, click on the “Start Search”
box, and ty e D:\autorun.exe, where “D” in “D:\autorun.exe” is the letter assigned to your
CD-ROM Driver, and then ress the ENTER key on your keyboard.
3. For Windows 7, if the installation menu does not a ear automatically, click on the
Windows Icon on the bottom left hand corner of the screen,, click the “Search rograms
and files” box, and ty e D:\autorun.exe, where “D” in “D:\autorun.exe” is the letter
assigned to your CD-ROM Driver, and then ress the ENTER key on your keyboard.
I com leted all the ste s in the quick installation guide, but m y W ireless USB Ada ter is not
connecting to m y access oint. W hat should I do?
1. Verify that the SSID matches your wireless router or access oint's SSID.
2. Please check with your network administrator for the security key in order to access a
secured wireless access oint or router. Refer to the User's Guide for more information
regarding wireless network security.
3. Check your TCP/IP ro erties to ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is
selected.
4. Double-click the Wireless Configuration Utility icon, click Site Survey and then click
Refresh to check and see if there are any available wireless networks listed.
W indow s is unable to recognize m y hardware. W hat should I do?
1. Make sure your com uter meets the minimum requirements as s ecified in Section 1 of
this quick installation guide.
2. You must com lete the installation of the Wireless Configuration Utility (as described in
Section 2) before connecting the Wireless USB Ada ter to your com uter.
3. Connect the Wireless USB Ada ter to a different USB ort on your com uter.
I cannot o en the W ireless Configuration Utility. W hat should I do?
Access your device manager to make sure the ada ter is installed ro erly. If you see a
networking device with a yellow question mark or exclamation oint, you will need to reinstall
the device and/or the drivers.
1. To access the device manager on Windows 2000/XP, right-click My Com uter, click
Pro erties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
2. To access the device manager on Windows Vista, right-click Com uter, click Pro erties
and then click Device Manager.
3. To access the device manager on Windows 7, click on the Windows icon on the bottom
left-hand corner, click Com uter, click System Pro erties and then click Device
Manager.

Dicas ireless
Abaixo algumas dicas genericas sobre wireless ara ajudar a minimizar o im acto de
interferencias em determinado ambiente.
Atribua a sua rede um SSID unico. Nao use nomes de facil identificagao como “Rede da Familia
Silva”. Escolha algum que voce identifique facilmente quando esquisar or redes wireless
dis oniveis.
Nao desative o broadcast de SSID. O broadcast de SSID e ara estar ligado e desliga-lo ode
causar roblemas na conectividade. O melhor metodo ara se roteger uma rede wireless e
escolher uma forma de cri tografia forte e uma chave de cri tografia forte e diferente.
Nota: a os configurar o SSID, o ti o e a chave de cri tografia, favor anota-los ara referencia
futura. Voce necessitara deles ara conectar seus com utadores wireless ao onto de
acesso/roteador wireless.
Altere o canal. A maioria dos ontos de acesso e roteadores wireless vem re-ajustados ara o
canal 6. Se voce tem uma ferramenta de site survey que a resenta o canal das redes localizadas,
voce odera escolher seu canal em fungao dos ontos de acesso ara minimizar interferencias
rovenientes deles. Se sua ferramenta nao informa o canal das redes, ex erimente usar o canal 1
ou 11.
Se voce utiliza onto de acesso ou roteador 802.11n voce tambem ode fazer as seguintes
mudangas. Altere a largura do canal (channel bandwidth) ara 20/40 MHz. Isto ro orcionara a
maior erformance ossivel em dis ositivo 802.11n. E tambem, em utilizando 802 11n voce
odera roteger a rede com seguranga WPA2.
Nota: Devido a consideragoes da certificagao Wi-Fi, se voce escolher cri tografia WEP, WPA ou
WPA2-TKIP o equi amento ira o erar em modo wireless legado (802.11b/g). Voce ode nao
atingir erformance 802.11n uma vez que estes ti os de cri tografia nao sao su ortados ela
es ecificagao 802.11n.
Por favor, certifique-se tambem de que o equi amento sem fios nao seja colocado em qualquer
ti o de rateleiras ou caixas.
Evite em ilhar equi amentos uns sobre os outros ara revenir roblemas de sobreaquecimento.
Mantenha bastante es ago livre no entorno do equi amento ara assegurar fluxo de ar e boa
ventilagao. Tambem deve haver es ago livre no entorno das antenas ara ermitir a ro agagao
do sinal wireless.

Ha diversos outros fatores ambientais que odem influenciar o alcance de dis ositivos wireless.
1. Ajuste seu dis ositivo wireless de forma que o sinal seja transmitido em uma reta em vez
de um angulo. Quanto mais material o sinal tenha de atravessar maior a erda de sinal.
2. Minimize a quantidade de obstrugoes. Cada obstrugao ode reduzir o alcance de um
dis ositivo wireless. Posicione os dis ositivos wireless de forma que a quantidade de
obstrugoes entre eles seja a menor ossivel.
3. Materiais de construgao odem ter grande im acto no sinal wireless. Em ambiente
interno, tente osicionar os dis ositivos wireless de forma que o sinal asse atraves dos
materiais menos densos. Materiais densos como metal, madeira, vidro ou mesmo
mobilia odem bloquear ou degradar o sinal;
4. O osicionamento da antena tambem ode ter grande im acto em seu sinal wireless. Use
a ferramenta de site survey de seu ada tador wireless ara determinar a melhor osigao
ara seu dis ositivo wireless.
5. Interferencia de dis ositivos que geram ruido RF (radio frequencia) tambem odem afetar
seu sinal. Posicione seus dis ositivos wireless afastados de qualquer roduto que gere
ruido RF, tais como fornos de microondas, radios HAM, Walkie-Talkies e babas
eletronicas.
6. Qualquer dis ositivo o erando na frequencia de 2.4 GHz causara interferencia.
Dis ositivos como telefone sem fio 2.4 GHz ou outros remotos sem fio o erando na
frequencia de 2.4GHz odem derrubar o sinal wireless. Mesmo que o telefone nao esteja
sendo utilizado, a base ode estar transmitindo sinal wireless. Coloque a base do
telefone tao distante quanto ossivel de seus dis ositivos wireless.
Se voce ainda estiver com sinal baixo ou sem sinal considere re osicionar os dis ositivos wireless
ou instalar ontos de acesso adicionais.O uso de antenas de alto ganho, de endendo do
ambiente, tambem ode ro orcionar a cobertura.
