Instructions for Use
The D740KIT is d
esign
certified by ACSI to meet
SAE J2790
D740KIT Instructions for Use
1. While diagnosing the vehicle’s A/C system you must first
determine the state of the refrigerant charge, i.e. full, low,
empty.
2. If it is suspected that there is an A/C leak in the system, and
there is some refrigerant in the system, use an SAE certified
refrigerant leak detector such as the D440A or the D440A-UV
to locate the leak/s. Mark the location of the leak/s for a future
repair once the system has been professionally evacuated
using you SAE certified refrigerant recovery/charging machine.
3. Be certain to pull a vacuum on the vehicle’s A/C system using
your SAE certified refrigerant recovery/charging machine.
4. Preparing to charge the A/C system with H2/N2 tracer gas,
connect the regulator to the tracer gas tank (a 100 pound tank
to be supplied by a local dealer, can be purchased from local
welding gas company such as Airgas).
5. Connect the hose to the regulator.
6. Connect the appropriate service port coupler fitting for systems
charged with either R134a or R1234yf.
7. If vehicle is an Electric or a Hybrid vehicle with a battery chiller
you may have to activate the battery chiller(s) to open the
solenoid(s) to allow vacuum and gas to pass through to chiller
for leak testing. Refer to shop manual refrigerant reclaim and
charging to see if solenoid(s) activation is necessary. Follow
the shop manual procedure to perform activation if needed.
8. Be sure that the coupler is in the closed position. Open the
valve on the supply H2/N2 tracer gas tank to charge the A/C
system. Adjust the regulator to 60 psi. Loosen the hose fitting
to the service port coupler a little until the tracer gas is
released to purge the air from the hose then tighten the hose
fitting to the service port coupler. Connect the service port
coupler from the H2/N2 tracer gas test kit
1
to the high side service port on the vehicle an
d open the
service port coupler.
9. Allow 30 seconds for the tracer gas to fill the system.
10. Use the model D740 H2/N2 leak detector that is included with
the D740KIT to check for system leaks. Follow the operating
instructions for use supplied for the model D740 leak detector.
11. When leak checking a fitting and or hose connections go all
the way around the component. H2/N2 tracer gas raises and
is defused into the atmosphere; it does not fall to the ground
as in the case with R134a or R1234yf refrigerant.
12. Discharge the H2/N2 tracer gas into the atmosphere after the
system leak/s are located. ( Do not ever recover the tracer gas
into an A/C recovery/charging machine). Charge the system
with the appropriate R134a or R1234yf refrigerant only after
the leak/s are repaired and retested with the H2/N2 tracer gas
and the model D740 leak detector.
13. Continue the remainder of repair/assembly using the WSM.
