4 PowerFill Operating Manual UES AG
Introduction
The automatic granules feeder PowerFill avoids
- downtimes because of an empty tank
- temperature fluctuation becaue of late refilling,
- risk of injury when filling the system,
- pollution of the glue in the tank.

UES AG PowerFill Operating Manual 5
Qualified personnel can only carry out installation and maintenance work, meaning only the personnel that has
been trained on such appliances and who has the required experience and qualification with these or similar
appliances and who is experienced in the safety and accident prevention procedures and thus can recognise
these immediately.
Any work, repairs or maintenance made on the gluing pattern system is only to be carried out when the appli-
ance has been disconnected from the main power supply and the compressed air has been cut off (depressur-
ise the system).
The appliance may not be operated without the relevant casing and safety protection. Beware of exposed mov-
ing and rotating appliance parts such as motor and pump movement and also rising/sinking parts.
Attention! Do not use this appliance for anything other than that, for which it was manufactured!
Many exposed parts of this unit, such as the hot glue hose and order valve operate at a very high temperature,
which can result, when coming into contact with hot and pressurised glue, in severe burns to the skin. There-
fore when operating this unit, filling the melting tanks, installation and construction of a hose and order valves,
protective clothing (safety gloves and glasses as well as clothing and shoes) are to be worn at all time. Several
glues produce poisonous gases, which have to be filtered.
Under no circumstances is the glue application unit to be operated under the following conditions:
- Near escaping substance or exploding gases or materials
- Without the appropriate safety appliances
- Temperatures lower than 5 °C and more than 45 °C
Safety precautions regarding the glue
The utmost care is required when working with hotmelt glues! Material of this kind has a high and quick bond-
ing quality, so that it can even still be very hot when it is hardened and can lead to burns when coming into to
contact with exposed skin.
The safety procedures of the glue manufactures are to be followed. They can be found in the relevant informa-
tion sheet of the respective glue.
Always abide to the operational gluing temperatures suggested by the manufactures!
During work with hotmelt glues wear protective gloves, glasses and long sleeved clothes to reduce the risk of
burns. In the event of an accident happening with hot glue, do not try and remove the glue from the skin but run
the burnt area under cold water until the glue has cooled off and then contact a doctor immediately.
Safety precautions relating to the production machine
The recommended safety procedures when dealing with production- and or packing machines are to be taken
from the manual delivered with these machines.
When installing, operating and maintaining the unit the safety measures referring to the main machine which
the unit is built into must be taken into consideration.
Attention:
Before installation and adjustment work is carried out, the appliance must be
disconnected from the mains!
Safety Instructions
The owner of the hotmelt system is responsible for managing these safety instructions.
Please read them carefully and consider the instructions when dealing with the plant.

Safety Symbols
The safety symbols shown below indicate operations where increased is called for.
The safety procedures should be followed to at all times:
Attention, general safety instructions:
Regards to safety instructions when working with glues and other machines.
Additional (special) safety instructions can follow
Caution hot surface:
Danger of burning. Appliance parts have a high operating temperature.
Caution high voltage:
This type of work is only to be carried out by qualified personal.
Caution hand injury:
Risk of entrapment if incautiously operated.
Caution, possible danger of uncontrolled release/leakage of hot liquids!
Disconnect power plug
before opening! Disconnect power supplier!
Wear safety gloves! Wear full suit!
Use safety glasses! Use face shield!

Functional description
The automatic granules feeder “PowerFill” is mounted on the tank opening of the hot glue system instead of the
filler cap. A filling level sensor identifies when glue must be replenished, and starts the PowerFill. A lance sucks
the granules out from the storage tank. Agglomerates, if any, are crushed by means of an installed vibrator. As
soon as the specified filling level has been reached, the feeder is automatically switched off.
The UES PowerFill operates with compressed air and is almost maintenance-free.

Commissioning
• With Nordson®units remove the two screws from the tank inlet.
• Remove the tank lid and replace it by the baseplate of the PowerFill. Use the two supplied screws to tighten
the plate firmly!
• Attach the conveying hose to the nozzle of the funnel by means of a hose clamp. The lance is mounted at the
opposite end.
• Install the solenoid valve in a suitible place on your hotmelt system and supply it with voltage.
• Connect a separate compressed air supply which is independent of the application guns to the solenoid valve.
• Maybe it is uesful do reduce the air supply by use of a choke (not included).
• Connect the compressed air hose which is mounted to the feeder hose at the outlet of the solenoid valve.
• To establish a connection, refer to the 24V DC connectors in the terminal box.
(optional: 230V AC power supply)
• Establish a ground connection between the controler unit and the tank (red cable core).
• Deposit the lance in the material storage tank. Adequate mobility must be ensured for optimal functionality.
Thus, the vibrator can crush possible agglomerates at the lance.
• Switch the PowerFill on.
• Adjust the sensors sensitivity for that the circuit suits ideal to the material. The adjusting screw is located on
the interpreter in the control box.
• By adjusting the height of the evaluation sensor, it is possible to determine the minimum filling level from
which the tank must be replenished. To this end, the filter must be removed. Now, the level of the sensor is
easily identifiable and can be modified after having loosened the clamping screw. Then, the screw can be
retightened.
• The feeder impulse can be prolonged by a time unit. You can change the preset time (setscrew on the time
relay).

Optional special functions
Tap the ready-contact of the hotmelt system and link it to X1, X4 and X5. As soon as the unit signals availibility
the PowerFill is ready to use. For a superior control (SPS) tap the contact “unit ready” from the clamps X1, X6
a nd X 7.
The fill level of the tank is monitored. Once the system is ready to use the automatic granules feeder PowerFill
is switched on and fills the tank up to the adjusted filling level. For this, the signal can be extended via X2.
In case of failure an alarm occurs and the filling is interrupted.
After the preset time K2 has expired an alarm is triggered (Contact X1, 10 und 11).
