1. Introduction
What is a pellet thermostove?
Suitable for hot water radiant systems,
hydro-air, or forced hot air systems Un-
garo stoves and boilers function much like
gas boilers, with fully automatic operation,
domestic hot water heating, and zoned
comfort control.
Thanks to a super fast heat exchanger Un-
garo’s products are compact and easy to
install.
Fuel Used
Pellets are made by compacting nely pro-
cessed sawdust at extremely high pressu-
re, it is a purely mechanical process. The
material is then squeezed through a 6 mm
diameter die, and cut to lengths from 5 to
25 mm. The heat released when pressing
the pellets through the die activates the li-
gnin that is naturally present in the wood,
ensuring the pellet remains compact and
retains its cylindrical shape. Pellets have a
low moisture content (6-10%) and a low
ash content (approximately 0.5%). Com-
pared to wood, pellets have the advantage
of having a practically constant volume.
The pellet hopper is positioned at the rear
of the boiler and has a lid for lling the pel-
lets that opens from the top. This lid must
be easily accessible to ll the pellets. The
efciency and heating capacity of Ungaro
boilers may change in relation to the type
and quality of pellets used.
Please use pellets that meet requirements
of the standard ISO 17225-2, class A1.
To ensure good combustion, pellets must
be stored in an area that is free of humidity.
ATTENTION: The use of fuel of inferior
quality or not conforming to the specica-
tion given above compromises the running
of your appliance and can therefore lead to
the termination of the guarantee and of the
manufacturer’s responsibility for the pro-
duct.
2. General Warnings
All Ungaro products are built according to
the directives:

• EN 303-5

The tampering with or non-authorized in-
tervention may make the product hazar-
dous and therefore invalidate the approvals
obtained. In this case the constructor de-
clines every responsability and may claim
the damages.

air inlet, as this is essential for cor-
rect combustion. Failure to heed this

before lighting the appliance;

Children shall not play with the ap-
pliance;
• Do not remove the protective grille
from the pellet hopper;
• The appliance must not be used as an
incinerator;
• Do not open the boiler door during its
operation;
• The boiler must not be used as a co-
oking appliance (except for the KUCI-
NA model);
• Handle the KUCINA cooking top when
the appliance is cold.
2.1 Electrical Safety
• Make sure the power plug is accessi-
ble after installation of the appliance;
• The power cable must not be in con-
tact with hot parts;
• Do not pull, twist or disconnect the
electric cables of the boiler/thermo-
stove even if power supply is discon-
nected;
• Do not wash the appliance with water.
The water could get inside the unit
and damage the electrical insulation
and cause electric shocks;
• Variations in power supply voltage in
excess of 10% of the rated value may
affect the correct operation of the ap-
pliance and can lead to serious faults
within boiler electrical system;
• Use uninterruptible power supply
with frequency 50Hz and pure sine
wave or pseudo sine wave;
The appliance must be connected to
an electrical system which is equip-
ped with an earth conductor, as laid
down in directives 73/23 EEC and
93/98 EEC.
2.2 Operating Warnings
• Pellets must not be fed manually into
the burning pot;
• Filling the hopper with pellet make
sure that the plastic bag doesn’t
come into contact with the hot sur-
faces;
• Un-burnt pellets accumulated in the
burning pot must be removed before
re-lighting. Not observing this may
cause detonation in the combustion
chamber with harm to people, ani-
mals or property;
• Do not touch the boiler/thermostove
with wet hands or bare feet in view
of the fact that it is an electrical ap-
pliance;
• Avoid coming into contact with the
hot parts of the appliance;
• Do not stand for a long time in front
of the hot air vent (if the model has
forced hot air);
• Never expose plants or animals di-
rectly to the hot air ow;
• Do not light the appliance with am-
mable materials. If the ignition sy-
stem breaks down, please contact the
Technical Support in your area.
During the rst two or three igni-
tions, the boiler/thermostove may
send a bad odor, please vent the
room several times.
2.3 Installation Considerations
After having removed the package, ensure
the appliance integrity and that all the re-
quired components have been supplied. In
case of non conformity, contact your dea-
ler within 15 days days from the date of
receipt.
Before installing the boiler/thermostove,
fully ush the heating system to clear any
debris which may have become lodged in
the pipework and can compromise the boi-
ler effective operation.

cold, must be between 0.8 and 1.2
Bar;

ply and contact the Technical Sup-
port;
3. Only authorized Ungaro personnel
may access to the electrical or meca-
nical parts of the appliance.
The connection of the appliance to
the plumbing system must be car-
ried out only by specialized person-
nel who are capable of carrying out
installation properly, in compliance
with current standards in the country
of installation. The Heating System
Compliance Certicate must be is-
sued under the responsibility of the
installer.
Please follow up local regulations
and directives (es: regional building
regulations, requirements for hea-
ting devices, technical regulations
for water and air heating systems).
2.4 Plumbing Connections
Always install gate valves upstream and
downstream of the boiler to be able to di-
sconnect it from the plumbing system.
It is recommended that a water drain cock
is used on the return pipework.
Connect the appliance to the heating sy-
stem with exible wedges to give some
space for maintenance work.
The security 3 Bar valve should
be piped outside to prevent injury to
the user if it is activated.
Thermal safety drain, if present,
should be piped outside downward.
In case of overheating, it must ope-
rate in complete safety for people,
animals or property. The hot water
and steam must not remain inside of
the room.
3. Installation
The installation must be carried out by spe-
cialized personnel under responsibility of
the person entrusted with it.
Ungaro S.r.l. will not be held responsible for
damage to persons or things in the event
of failed or incorrect operation if the afore-
mentioned warnings are not complied with.
3.1 Regulations
Installation must be carried out with refe-
rence to the following standards:
UNI 10683
UNI 10412-2
The smoke duct must comply with:
UNI EN 13384-1 (2008) Thermal and
dynamic uid calculation methods for chim-
neys
UNI 7129 - 1…- 4 heating systems for do-
mestic use
UNI EN 1443 (2005) chimneys: general
requirements
UNI EN 1457 (2004) Requirements and
test methods for clay/ceramic ue termi-
nals.
3.2 Additional documentation
At the end of installation, the installer
must inform the user on how to use the
heating system and provide technical
documentation for the appliances used in
the installation. The installer must ll in:
• Heating system booklet
• Documentation for the installation
The technical documentation includes:
• Reference to the current standards;
• Manufacturers installation indications;
• A rough description or scheme, or photo-
graphs of any system modications made;
• Heating System Compliance Certicate;
• Declaration of Chimney Conformity.
A sign upon receipt of the technical
documentation is requested from the
user.
3.3 Installation Area
The boiler/thermostove should be positio-
ned on the re resistant oor. If the ooring

is made of ammable material, provide a
oor protection surface in compliance with
current national standards. Respect the sa-
fety clearance as shown on g.1

3.4 Flue Pipe (ref. UNI 10683)
The ue pipe must meet the following re-
quirements:
• Twin wall steel ue, required diame-
ter is 100 mm round for 24 kW mo-
dels or 130 mm for 34 kW models,
regardless of external or internal in-
stallation of the duct;
• It must be resistant to heat, mecha-
nical stress, heat, combustion resi-
dues and related condensate;
• It must be installed at a safe distance
from eventual combustible materials;
• It must have draft between 11 and
15 Pa.
The proper draught conditions in the
ue is critical for the efcient wor-
king of pellet boilers/thermostoves.
All sections of the ue must be ca-
pable of inspection and removable to
enable periodic internal cleaning.
The boiler must be connected to a
ue pipe or a vertical duct which can
discharge the fumes at the highest
point of the building, conforming to
current national regulations. Failu-
re to comply can lead to the termi-
nation of the guarantee and of the
manufacturer’s responsibility for the
product.
3.5 Flue gasses discharge
To discharge the ue gas outside, make a
hole of an adequate size to the ue pipe.
A T-element with inspection cap and
chimney cowl must be installed on the
ue pipe run.
Maximum two accessible 90° bends are al-
lowed on the ue pipe, each of them must
have a T-tting with inspection cap. Maxi-
mum permissible ue lengths are 3 meters
with an upward slope of 3%.
Flue gasses discharge on the wall is
not permitted by current regulations.
Failure to comply can lead to the ter-
mination of the guarantee and of the
manufacturer’s responsibility for the
product.
Smoke exhaust with existing ue
A chimney cleanout access door is required.
Control and periodically clean the chimney.
Chimney terminal position
For the installation of smoke exhaust
ducts consult the technical regulations UNI
10683. As shown on the g.2, the terminal
of the chimney over the roof must have the
following quotes (b>10°):
- a = 500mm
- c = 1300 mm.

At the base of the ue is advisable to install
a hermitically sealed cleanout access for
collecting ash and condensate, in a position
where it can be periodically inspected.
The rst section should not be a
90° bend, as ash would block the
discharge of ue gasses in a short
time, causing draught problems.

3.6 Bifuel ue (g. 7)
These models are equipped with two ue
pipes. Both must be installed independently
according to current national regulations.

3.7 Air intake
For proper functioning, the appliance should
be positioned in a location where it is able
to take in the air necessary for combustion.
Provide an air intake hole Ø100 mm² close
to the boiler/thermostove. Protect it with a
grill grate from inside and outside, g. 8.
The air intake must:
• Be in the installation room;
• Be drown outside with a special con-
nection (wood)
• The exit outside must be protected
with a metal grate;
• Be un-obstructed at all times as these
allow air for comubustion.

If the air inlet is direct from outside
in the room of installation, its run
should not have changes of direction
and small mesh grill, as can be easily
clogged.
Refer to the national installation re-
gulations for pellet boiler/thermo-
stove.
3.8 Plumbing Connections
Ensure that there is an adequate provision
in the system for heat dissipation from the
boiler, especially in closed-circuit zone he-
ating systems. The charge pressure, with
the system cold, must be between 0.8 and
1.2 Bar.
The following are indicative, non bin-
ding schemes.

The scheme in shows the simplicity of the
Ungaro boliers/thermostoves installation.
The plumbing connections are at the rear
of the boiler, connect them to the the re-
spective ow and return pipeworks. Provi-
de an external lling hose on the central
heating return pipework.
3.10 Heating system with DHW kit
(g.10)
There are four hydraulic connections in this
conguration: domestic hot water ow,
external lling, heating system ow and
return (max. 1.5 Bar). A ow restrictor and
lling hose are installed on the DHW kit.

Domestic hot water supply is available only
if the boiler/thermostove is on with the
ame present. Passing through the plate
heat exchanger the city water temperature
increases by 30°C compared to its initial
value. The data may vary depending on
the condition of the kit. When domestic
hot water is used, the central heating is su-
spended.
A ow restrictor and a lling hose must be
installed on the DHW kit.
If in your heating system a glycol is used,
it must be propylene glycol or ethylene
glycol-based uid.

When the temperature set is reached, the
stove goes in modulation and then in stand
by. It turns on automatically in base on the
temperature set of the tank.
The forced heated air activates when the
exhaust gasses temperature reaches the
manufacturer’s settings. The hot air ow
depends on the stove power setting.
In case of anomalies or excessive
temperatures, the valve P2 dissi-
pates hot water into the radiators.
Keep the radiators open for extra
security.
3.11 Conguration with buffer tank
In this sheme (g.11) the stove is con-
nected to an external vessel. The mother-
board manages the temperature set in the
tank.
Contact the Technical Support in
your area to activate the congura-
tion with buffer tank.
For the buffer tank settings see the chapter
“Thermostat Settings”
3.12 Additional Components
An additional external expansion vessel
may have to be tted, based on the water
capacity of the entire heating system.
If the system water capacity is over 150
liters, an anti-condensation system is re-
quired. A pressure compensator must be
installed too to maintain a preset pressu-
re drop. Anti-condensation heater circuit is
required for 2 Fire and Bifuel models.
Install an external properly-sized circula-
ting pump if the prevalence is high and the
built-in circulation pump is not enough to
manage it. An adequate provision in the
system for heat dissipation from the ther-
mostove, especially in the heating systems
with zone valves.

4. Components Description

the key 4;

ge the heating power, its value shows
the window D1;
• All the messages are shown in the
windows D1 and D2.
4.2 Forced-air heating
The user can turn on the forced-air hea-
ting and it is automatically regolated by a
probe.
The air heating activates when the tem-
perature in the room shown on D1 is less
than SET Air:
• Press twice the key SET: “Set Air”
and the temperature to regulate will
appear on the display (g.13);
• With the keys 1and 2set the value;
• Conrm with the key SET.

4.3 Room thermostat (optional)
The boiler/thermostove Ungaro has an inlet
for a room thermostat with a clean contact.
Once the room reaches the set temperatu-
re, the thermostat regulates the boiler on
minimal power, without switching off. The
automatic regulation is possible only if the
thermostove is on. If the appliance is OFF,
any comand from the room thermostat
cannot reach the stove.
Do not connect 220V-powered room
thermostats, they can damage mo-
therboard.
When set temperature reached, on display
D2 appears “TOff”.
How to wire a room thermostat:
• Turn off the boiler/thermostove main
switch;
• Remove the by-pass on the back of
the boiler/thermostove (g. 14);
• Connect the wires following the ther-
mostat diagram.

The indoor temperatures should be
kept within certain limits. Please
consult local regulations and direc-
tives.
4.4 Remote control
Ungaro offers a remote control as standard
for easy operation of the thermostove.
(g.15).
• Press two keys 1and 6 at the same
to turn the stove on or switch it off;
• Set the water temperature with the
keys 1and 2;
• Set the heating power with the keys
5and 6.

To replace the battery, lift the lid on the
back with a screw driver, insert the new
battery paying attention to the polarity.
4.5 Chronothermostat
Che chronothermostat allows to program
automatic switching on and off of the ther-
mostove.
Press the key 3for three seconds to enter
in programming. In the window D1 will ap-
pear “UT01”.
Program the stove pressing the key 3. (See
the following table).
Press the key 4to quit the programming.
The chronothermostat has these functions:

day of the week. Choose the day with
the keys 1 - 2 as shown in the table:

At least two daily ignitions are re-
commended to not increase pellet
consumption.

4.7 Remote Control Panel (optional)
The remote control panel Ungaro permits
to run the main functions:
• Manual turning on and switching off;
• Power and temperature settings;
• Chronothermostat programming;
• Checking room temperature (in the
room of boiler’s installation) and boi-
ler’s temperature;
• Speed of exhaust gas extractor (if
equipped with encoder);
• Exhaust gas temperature;
• Operating state of gear motor;
• Alarms control (the control panel
does not reset allarms).
Press ENTER to access to programming.
Choose the parameter with the arrows UP-
DOWN, conrm with the button ENTER.
Change the parameters’ values with the
LEFT-RIGHT buttons, conrm with EN-
TER. Push ESC to exit.
The control panel has the remote control
sensor and can be xed on the wall (g.16).

5. Operation
STEP 1
Before ignition please check that:
• The pellet hopper is full;
• The combustion chamber and the
burning pot are clean;
• The ash pan and the inspection box
are placed correctly and screwed;
• The tecnical door and the glass
door are closed;
• The power cable is connected and
the main switch is in the position
1;
• Check the boiler/thermostove wa-
ter pressure, keep pressed the
key 2. On the display D1 will ap-
pear the current water pressure,
for example “1.0b”. The recom-
mended pressure in cold mode is
between 0.8 and 1.2 Bar, g. 17.

In the model Bi-Fuel the water pres-
sure is constant as it is relled by
automatic valve.
Please use pellets that meet require-
ments of the standard ISO 17225-2,
class A1.
To ensure good combustion, pellets
must be stored in an area that is free
of humidity.
STEP 2
Start running the circulation pump holding
pressed the key 1 and 2. The pump will
ll the water. Remove air from the system
opening the valves on the radiators. If the
pump doesn’t start, follow the step 3. If it
runs correctly, go on the step 4.
STEP 3
Verify the pump conguration: push the
“arrow” button, the sequence “Red-Yellow-

STEP 4
• Hold pressed the button 4. On the di-
splays D1 and D2 will appear “Fan
Asp”. In this phase the thermostove
carries out the components test and
draft checking. In case of fault, may
appear the alarm codes “No Dep” and
“Press H2O” (g. 19)
(see chapter 8).
g. 19 - Test phase
• When test phase is compleated, on the
display appears “Load Wood”. The
pellets start to fall in the brasier and
after a few minutes the ame strikes.

• The following phase is “Fire On”.
g. 21 - Fire ON
• The ame stabilization recognizes after
appearance of the power value on the
display D1.
• Normally, the lowest power necessary
for the phase “Fire On” is Po6.
• On the display D2 is shown the water
temperature. The recommended value
is 65°C (g. 22).

Faulty thermostove and ue pipe
maintenance can fault ignition during
this phase. On the display will appe-
ar “Pull Brac - No Fire”. Clean the
thermostove, empty the burning pot
and repeat the ignition.
When the ignition phase is complea-
ted, set the power to “Po9”. The ro-
oms will be heated in less time and
the modulation phase starts earlier.
In this way you reduce the pellet
consumption.
5.1 Logs ignition (Bifuel model)
Open the door of the lower combustion
chamber. Place medium size logs (max
35cm length, 5 cm diameter), not more
than 1 kilo at a time. In order to avoid so-
oting on the glass, it is important that the
log is not placed adjacent to the glass on
the product.
In the wood logs combuston chamber the
temperature is controlled by motherboard.

It regulates the primary air opening. If the
electric power is interrupted, the primary
air entrance closes.
The logs must be dry (humidity less
than 20%).
Use maximum three logs at a time.
Too much wood develops excessive
heat which can damage structure of
the appliance.
6. Settings
With the buttons 5and 6 the caloric power
can be set. To regulate the water tempera-
ture, press the button 3. On the display D1
will appear “SET H2O”, and on the display
D2 will be shown the water temperature Se
its value with the buttons 1-2.
6.1 Modulation
In this phase the thermostove goes in mi-
nimum working power reducing fuel con-
sumption to a minimum. The recommen-
ded water temperature is between 60°C
and 75°C.
The modulation starts 9°C befor the ap-
pliance reaches the water temperature set.
The current water temperature in the ther-
mostove is shown on the display D2.
On the display D1 is shown room temper-
ture / current power setting.

When the water temperture setting is rea-
ched, on the display appears “H20”. After
30 or 60 minutes (depends on the thermo-
stove’s model) the appliance goes in “Stop
Fire”. It will re-start automatically when
the room temperature goes low.
6.2 Antifreeze pump circulation
If the water temperature in the thermosto-
ve falls under 5°C, the circulation pump ac-
tivates to prevent system freezing.
6.3 Regulation of pellet and air
feeding
If the combustion is not regular, for exam-
ple:
• Unburnt pellet accumulates in the
burning pot;
• The thermostove shuts down on the
caloric power 1
it is possible to regulate pelelt feeding and
primary air intake, modifying the parame-
ter 55:
• Press and hold for some seconds the
button 3(SET), on the display will
appear UT01;
• Press three times the button 3, untull
seeing “UT04” on the display D1;
• Press the button 1untill seeng para-
meter “55” on the display D2;
• Press the button 3, to see “cPEL” on
the display D1 and “00” on the di-
splay D2;
• With the buttons 1or 2gradually in-
crease or decrease pellets feeding;
• Conrm setting with the button 3 and
press it to exit.
Be careful doing this operation! Mo-
dify pellets feeding gradually and
only if it’s strictly necessary. Unburnt
pellets accumulated in the burning
pot may cause detonation in the
combustion chamber with harm to
people, animals or property.
To set the extraction rate:
• Press and hold for some seconds the
button 3(SET), on the display will
appear UT01;
• Press three times the button 3, untull
seeing “UT04” on the display D1;
• Press the button 1untill seeng para-
meter “55” on the display D2;
• Press the button 3, to see “cASP” on
on the display D1 and “00” on the
display D2;
• With the buttons 1or 2gradually in-
crease or decrease combustion air;
• Conrm setting with the button 3 and
press it to exit.

An errated setting can cause signi-
cant combustion worsening.
7. Shut down
Press and hold for some seconds the OFF
button on the display to shut down the
thermostove. On the display D1 will appear
“OFF” (g. 25).

The auger motor stops immediately, the
other components will be stopped by their
thermostats. About 30 minutes are neces-
sary to cool down the appliance.
7.1 Logs combustion shut down (BiFuel
model)
To shut down the logs combustion chamber
wait until all wood is naturally burnt.
Do not disconnect electric power
supply untill the appliance is com-
pleatly cooled down.
7. Maintenance
To ensure smooth operation and maintain
high performance, clean the thermostove
regularly. The frequency of cleaning is de-
termined by the length of time the boiler
has been running and by the type of pel-
let. (The poorer the quality of the fuel, the
more frequently will intervention be neces-
sary for cleaning.)
Protect the oor from ash before cleaning
the thermostove.

To prevent the ash falling during
cleaning, enable the fan when the
thermostove is off. Press and hold
both the buttons 3and 4. Press 4
to stop.
7.1 Burning Pot Electronic Cleaning
The thermostove performs electronic clea-
ning of the burning pot. The display shows
“PUL FIRE” and after few seconds the
thermostove re-starts normal work. Please
remember that manual burner cleaning is
absolutely necessary before each ignition.

nance can alternate proper functio-
ning and void the warranty, with the
manufacturer declining all related
liability;
Maintenance should be performed
only on a stove shut down and co-
oled;
Don’t clean the glass when it is hot.
7.2 Burning Pot Manual Cleaning
Remove, empty and clean the burning pot
every day or at each ignition. (g. 26).
If the thermostove maintenance and ash
removal procedures are not performed re-

gularly, it can cause:
• Poor combustion;
• Glass smoke up;
• Accumulation of ash and unburnt pel-
lets in the burning pot;
• Ash residue depositing on the heat
exchanger and its poor ef ciency as
result.

7.3 Exchanger Cleaning
Remove the buttery screw, pull and push
intensively several times the grate of
exchanger cleaner (g. 27). This operation
should be performed once a day when the
thermostove is cold.

Regular exchanger cleaning helps to
keep high efciency of the thermo-
stove.
7.4 Ash Box Cleaning
Empty the ash box (g. 28) when it is full or
each 15 days. Remove the screws, empty
the box, put it back and tighten the screws.

7.5 Inspection Compartment Cleaning
Empty the inspection compartment when it
is full or each 15 days. Remove the screws,
empty the box (g. 29,30,31) empty the
T-inspection box if present, put it back and
tighten the screws.

7.6 Wood compartment cleaning
(BiFuel)
Clean the grille when its dirty and empty
the ash collector when it’s full, then put it
back and tighten the screws (g. 32).

7.7 Hopper Cleaning
Saw residues may block the auger. There-
fore, pellet hopper must be emptied and
cleaned each 10/20 rells, depends on the
quantity of dust in the pellets. Faulty hop-
per cleaning can void the warranty, with the
manufacturer declining all related liability.
7.8. Annual service
Annually contact the local Technical Support
to perform annual service and to check up
the following components:
• Door gaskets;
• Ash box gaskets;
• Exchanger gaskets;
• Tube bundle silicone gaskets;
• T-inspection gaskets;
• Tube bundle cleaning;
• Pellet hopper cleaning;
• Thermostove interspace cleaning;
• Internal ue pipe cleaning;
• Air pipeline cleaning;
• Exhaust fan base cleaning;
• Motherboard cleaning;
• Hot air tangential fan cleaning;
• Ignition resistance;
• Burning pot’s integrity;
• Gearmotor integrity;
• Expansion vessel;
• Bushings.
At the end of the maintenance the techni-
tian must ll the maintenance document,
which is required to maintain the guaran-
tee.
Lack of annual maintenance voids
the factory boiler/thermostove war-
ranty. The annual maintenance is re-
sponsibility of the customer.
