IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS!
When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precauons should
always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to
persons, including the following:
xThis unit is NOT waterproof. DO NOT expose this unit to rain or moisture.
xDo not use this product near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash
bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming
pool.
xAvoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical
storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
xDo not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
xUse only the power cord and baeries indicated in this manual.
xDo not dispose of baeries in a fire. They may explode. Check with local
codes for possible special disposal instrucons.
xDo not place the handset in any charging cradle without the baery
installed and the baery cover securely in place.

CAUTION! Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect
type! Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions. Do
not open or mutilate the battery. Disconnect the battery before
shipping this product.

GETTING STARTED
Installing Your Phone
Charge the Baery
1. Unpack all handsets, batteries, and battery
covers. If you need to remove a battery
cover, press in on the notch and slide the
cover down.
2. Line up the battery connector with the
jack inside the handset and push the connector in until it clicks
into place. Tug gently on the wires to make sure the battery pack is
securely connected.
3. Replace the cover and slide it up into place.

4. Use the base AC adapter to connect the power jack on the base to a
standard AC power outlet. If you have accessory handsets, connect
each repeater (or charger) in the same way.
5. Place a handset in the base with the display facing forward.
For two or more handsets, place each handset in a repeater (or
charger).
#Charge all handsets completely (about 15 hours) before using
them.
Connect the Telephone Cord
Use the telephone cord to connect the TEL LINE jack to a standard
telephone wall jack.
Welcome Mode
After the first battery charging, the phone becomes “Welcome Mode”
and you need to set up the phone according to the region of use.
Follow the steps below:
1.
WELCOME appears on the display. Press MENU/OK to start the
setting.
2. Use
UP or DOWN to switch the display to the region that you live in,
and press
MENU/OK .
3. Press
MENU/OK again to confirm. To go back, press CANCEL .
4. Use UP or DOWN to switch the display to the language you want to
use, and press
MENU/OK .
5. Using the number keypad, enter the date and press MENU/OK . Then
enter the time and press
MENU/OK .
Test the Connecon
1. Pick up the handset from the cradle and press TALK/FLASH . You
should hear a dial tone, and the display shows
CALLING .
xIf you don't hear a dial tone, try checking the connection between
the base and the phone jack.
2. Make a quick test call. (Press
END to hang up.)
xIf you keep hearing a dial tone, try changing to pulse dialing (see
page 13).
3. Test any handsets in the same way. If you cannot connect the test
call, try registering the handset to the base (see page 28).

S e ng Up the Repeaters
xYour base supports a total of two (2) repeaters, including any that
were supplied with your phone.
xTo use the repeater function, the repeater must be registered to the
base.
xAny repeaters packaged with your base are registered and ready to
use out of the box. Just pick the best location and plug it in.
xUsually, you can't tell when a handset switches between the base
and the repeater in the middle of a call.
How It Works
The repeater extends the range of your base in all directions, including
up and down. Each handset will automatically connect to the repeater
or the base, depending on which signal is stronger. (The handset can
make and receive calls in exactly the same way whether it’s connected
to the base or to the repeater.)

Placing a Repeater
xMake sure you have a strong signal from the base. If the the antenna
icon on the handset display is steady on, the signal from the base is
strong enough (see “Picking the Best Spot” below).
xPut the repeater at least 10 m away from the base or any other
repeater. (If you put the repeater on a different floor from the base,
don't forget to allow 10 m vertically, also.)
Picking the Best Spot
The best spot for the repeater is as far
from the base as possible while still
maintaining a good signal, or near
the edge of the base’s coverage
area. To find the edge of the
coverage area:
1. Stand near the base
and make a call on the
handset.
2. While on the call, carry
the handset away from
the base towards the
general area where
you want to put the
repeater.
3. Watch the antenna icon on the handset. Make a note where the
icon starts to blink or if you start to hear noise on the line (which
indicates the signal strength is not enough).
4. Place the repeater anywhere inside the range where the antenna
icon is steady on and the handset had a clear signal with no noise.
Tesng the Locaon
Connect the repeater's AC adapter and make sure the LINK light comes
on steadily. If the light flashes, the repeater is not getting a good signal
from the base. The repeater may be too far away from the base, there
may be interference from electronic devices, or the signal might be
blocked by thick walls or metal objects. Try moving the repeater to
another location.

Display icons and what they mean
Since the icons appear based on what you’re doing with the phone,
you won’t ever see all of these icons at the same time.
Icon What it means
On: you have a strong signal from the base.
Blinking: the signal from the base is weak.
The handset is on a call.
The speakerphone is on.
The ringer is turned off: this handset will not ring when
a call comes in.
You have a voice message waiting.
On: you have records in the call log.
Blinking: you have missed calls.
The battery is 1) empty, 2) getting low, 3) half charged,
or 4) fully charged.
The alarm on this handset is activated.
On: the answering machine is ON.
Blinking: you have new messages on the answering
machine.

SETTING YOUR PHONE
Using the Menus
If you don't press any keys for 30 seconds, the handset exits the menu.
In the operating instructions on this document...
x“Select” means “scroll to the menu option and press
MENU/OK .”

Seng the Date and Time
1. With the phone in standby, open the menu.
2. Select CLOCK & ALARM Ö SET DATE & TIME .
3. Enter the date and time. Use CID/LEFT to move the cursor past a
digit without changing it.
4. If your phone’s time format is “12 hours”, you need to set AM/PM.
Use
UP or DOWN to change AM or PM .
5. When you have finished, press
MENU/OK .
#Only one handset at a time can change the date and time.
If you subscribe to Caller ID, the phone automatically sets the date and
time when it receives Caller ID information from your phone company.
Set

RING TONES
Choose this handset’s ringer tone. As you highlight
each ring tone, the phone plays a sample. When you
hear the tone you want, press
MENU/OK .
KEY BEEP Have the handset sound a tone when you press a key.
RANGE TONE
Have the handset sound a tone when the handset is
traveling out of range.
BATTERY TONE
Have the handset sound a tone when the battery gets
too low.
CHARGE TONE
Have the handset sound a tone when you place the
handset on a charging cradle.

View of the Menu Opons
The HS SETTINGS Menu
You can change these settings separately for each handset.
Menu Option What it does
HANDSET NAME Change the name used on the handset’s display.
HANDSET TONES
Change the settings for the handset tones (see
page 11).
LANGUAGE Change the display language.
AUTO ANSWER
Have this handset answer a call when you pick it up
from the cradle (without pressing any keys).
AUTO HANGUP
Have this handset hang up a call when you return
the handset to the cradle. If you set to
OFF , the call
will switch to a speakerphone call when you return
the handset to the cradle.
VOICE MAIL
Program your voice mail access number so you can
get messages with one button (see page 21).
The CLOCK & ALARM Menu
You can set up about the clock and the alarm with this menu.
Menu Option What it does
SET DATE & TIME Set the date and time on your phone (see page 10).
SET FORMAT Set the date and time format (see page 10).
ALARM
Set these menu options to use the alarm feature on
your handset (see page 20).
ALARM TONE
AUTO CLOCK ADJ
Turn on so the phone sets date and time automatically
when an incoming call is received. (You need to
subscribe to the Caller ID to use this feature.)
The BS SETTINGS Menu
Before changing these settings, make sure no handset is on a call.
Menu Option What it does
PIN CODE Change the base PIN code (default 0000).
CONFERENCE
Turn on so you can join an ongoing call from another
handset (see page 19).

Menu Option What it does
RESET
The handset and base will return to the factory default
settings. When the phone prompts to confirm, press
MENU/OK . The phone becomes Welcome Mode. See
page 3 to continue to set up. To use this feature, turn
on the power of all handsets and place near the base.
The LINE SETTINGS Menu
The settings on this menu affect all handsets and the base. Only one
handset at a time can change these settings. Before changing these
settings, make sure no handset is on a call and all handsets are within
range of the base.
Menu Option What it does
COUNTRY
You can change the country setting from the one
chosen during the Welcome Mode. The phone
settings are automatically adjusted for the selected
country. When the phone prompts to confirm, press
MENU/OK . Then you need to set the language for all
handsets. To use this feature, turn on the power of all
handsets and place near the base.
RECALL TIME
Recall time is the time delay by which the line will be
disconnected after you press
TALK/FLASH during a call.
It can be set to
SHORT , MEDIUM , or LONG .
FIRST RING
If you have subscribed to Caller ID, your phone may
start to ring before the Caller ID displays on the
screen. To prevent it, set this option to
OFF .
DIAL MODE
Choose tone or pulse dialing. If you use pulse dialing
and you need to send DTMF tones during a call, press
and hold *to temporarily switch to tone dialing.
When the call ends, the phone automatically returns
to pulse dialing mode.
The REGISTRATION Menu
This menu lets you register the handset to a base or de-register the
handset from the base (see page 28).

The Ans. Setup Menu
Only one handset at a time can control these submenus.

Listen to the messages on your answering machine

Delete all of old messages on your answering
machine from a handset (see page 24).
ANSWER
ON/OFF
Turn your answering machine on or off from a
handset. (see page 22).
RECORD OGM
Record or delete your personal outgoing message
(see page 22).
ANSWER MODE
The caller can leave a message when ANSWER & REC
is selected. Choose
ANSWER ONLY if you don’t want
the machine to let the caller to leave a message (see
page 22).
SETTINGS
This menu controls the options and settings for your
answering machine (see page 23).
Entering Text on Your Phone
Use the 12-key dial pad when you want to enter text into your phone
(i. e., a name in the phonebook, the handset banner).
xThe phone enters the letters in the order they appear on the key. For
example, if you press the number key
2 once, the phone enters the

xIf two letters in a row use the same number key, enter the first letter
and wait a few seconds (or press
CID/RIGHT ); the cursor will move to

Using Caller ID and Redial Lists
Caller ID (CID) is a service available from your telephone provider
that shows the phone number (and sometimes the caller’s name) of
incoming calls. Contact your telephone provider for more information.

xThe phone saves the information for the last 30
received calls to the CID list.
xWhen the phone’s in standby, the icon
blinks if you have new records (that are records
you have not reviewed yet).
xIn the list, the icon blinks to show it’s a new
record.
xEach handset

its own redial list.

Add the number to the phonebook. The handset
prompts you to edit the name and number.
DELETE Erase the number from the list.
DELETE ALL Erase all numbers from the list.

Using Call Waing
Call Waiting is a service available from your telephone provider that
lets you receive calls while you are on another call. Caller ID on Call
Waiting (CIDCW) service displays Caller ID information for a waiting
call. Contact your telephone provider for more information.
If you get a Call Waiting call, the phone sounds a tone and displays any
CID information received for the waiting call. To switch between the
current call and the waiting call, press
TALK/FLASH . Remember, each
time you switch, there is a short pause before you’re connected to the
other caller.
Using the Phonebook
Each handset can store up to 200 entries in its phonebook.
To... Press...

Creang a New Phonebook Entries
In standby, enter a phone number and press MENU/OK . The phone
prompts you to enter a name and edit the number.

In standby, open the phonebook. Press
MENU/OK and then select NEW
ENTRY
. The phone prompts you to enter a name and number.
xEnter the phone number (up to 24 digits) exactly as you would dial it.
xIf you need to enter a pause between the numbers, press and hold
#/PAUSE/RINGER OFF . (The dialing will pause for about 3 seconds per
a digit.)

Deleng All the Phonebook Entries
In standby, open the phonebook. Press MENU/OK and then select
DELETE ALL . When the phone prompts you to confirm, press MENU/OK .
Chain Dialing
If you often have to enter a code number during a call, you can use the
phonebook to send the code number. Store the code number (up to 24
digits) exactly into the phonebook just like a regular phonebook entry.
1. During a call, when you hear the prompt that tells you to enter the
number, open the phonebook and find the entry.
2. Press
MENU/OK to transmit the code. If you change your mind, use
CLEAR to close the phonebook.
Finding a Lost Handset
In standby, press FIND on the base. All handsets beep for 30 seconds.
To cancel, press
FIND again or press any handset key.
Using Mul-Handset Features
To use the features in this section, you must have at least two cordless
handsets.
Expanding Your Phone
xYour base supports a total of 5 accessory handsets, including any
that were supplied with your phone.
xAccessory handsets must be registered to the base before you can
use them.
xAny accessory handsets that came packaged with the base are
already registered for you.
xHandsets that aren't registered display a message;
REGISTER YOUR
HANDSET
. For instructions on registering handsets to the base, see
page 28, or consult the accessory handset manual.
xIf you want to use the handset with a different base, just register the
handset to the new base. The handset automatically erases the link
to the old base when it registers to the new one.

Call Transfer
To... Follow these steps:

1. During a call, press
INTERCOM .
2. Select the handset you want to transfer to (or
ALL HANDSETS to page all handsets at once).
3. When the other handset answers the page,
you can speak to the paged handset.
4. Press
END to complete the transfer. You’ll be
disconnected.

Conference Calling
During an outside call, two handsets can make a conference call with
the outside caller.
1. During a call, press INTERCOM .
2. Select the handset you want to talk with (or
ALL HANDSETS to page all
handsets at once).
3. When the other handset answers the page, you can speak to the
paged handset.
4. Press and hold
INTERCOM . The conference call starts.
5. To leave the conference call, hang up normally; the other handset
remains connected to the call.
Conference Calling with Easy Conference Mode
If you turn the CONFERENCE in the BS SETTINGS menu on (see page 12),
you can join an ongoing call from another handset.
To join in a conference call, just press
TALK/FLASH or SPEAKER on the
second handset.

Internal Call
Whenever the phone is in standby, you can make an internal call
between two handsets without using the phone line.
To... Follow these steps:

USING SPECIAL FEATURES
Using the Alarm Feature
You can set an alarm on each handset so your phone can remind you of
important events. You need to set the date and time before using the
alarm feature.
Seng the Alarm
1. With the phone in standby, open the menu.
2. Select
CLOCK & ALARM
Ö
ALARM Ö ONCE , DAILY , or OFF .
3. If you select ONCE or DAILY , the handset prompts you to set the time
you want the alarm to ring. Use the number keys to enter the time.
Then use
UP and DOWN to select AM or PM . When you're finished,
press
MENU/OK .
#When an alarm is set, the alarm icon ( ) appears on the top of
the screen.
