Digital Spread Spectrum Technology utilizes a “wider frequency band” vs. a “single narrow band”
used in standard digital transmissions. T e 2.4 GHz frequency range was recently released to commercial
communications. T e result is a more secure conversation wit t e clarity of digital sound, extended
range, and minimal interference from ot er cordless p ones.
Random Code™ digital security automatically selects one of approx. 65,000 codes for t e andset
and base.
T ese features en ance your p one’s security and also prevent unaut orized calls as a result of your
p one being activated by ot er equipment.

About the digital security code
T is cordless telep one uses a digital security code
to prevent unaut orized access to your base unit.
T is security code prevents ot er cordless andsets
from making calls t roug your base unit.
A random security code will be assigned
automatically between your base unit and andset
w en you c arge t e battery pack for t e
first time.
If you want to reset t e security code, see page 37.

Unpack and c eck t e telep one and accessories.

Choose the best location
Before c oosing a location for your new p one, read t e INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS included in t e
PRECAUTIONS AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS broc ure. Here are some important guidelines you
s ould consider:
SETTING UP THE BASE UNIT
Avoid heat sources, such as
radiators, air ducts, and sunlight
Avoid television sets
and other electronic
equipment
Avoid noise sources such as a window
by a street with heavy traffic
Avoid microwave ovens
Avoid excessive moisture,
extremely low tempera-
tures, dust, mechanical
vibration, or shock
Avoid personal computers
Avoid other cordless telephones
Choose a central location

• You s ould c arge your andset at least 15 ours before using t e p one.
• T e location s ould be close to bot a p one jack and a continuous power outlet w ic is
not switc able.
• Keep t e base and andset away from sources of electrical noise suc as motors and
fluorescent lig ting.
• Be sure t ere is sufficient space to raise t e base antenna to a vertical position.
• T e base can be placed on a desk, tabletop or mounted on a standard wall plate.
Connect the base unit
If you want to install t e base unit on t e
wall, see page 9
1Connect t e telep one line cord to t e
TEL LINE jack and to a telep one outlet.
2Connect t e AC adapter to t e DC IN 9V
jack and to a standard 120V AC
wall outlet.
3Set t e base unit on a desk or tabletop and place
t e andset on t e base unit.

Choose the dialing mode
Depending on your dialing system, set t e PULSE-TO E
switc as follows:
If you aren’t sure of your dialing system
Make a trial call wit t e PULSE-TO E switc set to TONE.
If t e call connects, leave t e switc as is; ot erwise, set to PULSE.
Use only t e supplied AD-311 AC adapter. Do not use any ot er AC adapter.
Connect t e AC adapter to a continuous power supply.
Place t e base unit close to t e AC outlet so t at you can unplug t e AC adapter easily.
If your telep one outlet isn’t modular, contact your telep one company for assistance.

MOUNTING THE BASE UNIT ON A WALL
Standard wall plate mounting
T is p one can be mounted on any standard telep one wall plate.
1Snap t e wall mount adapter into t e notc es on t e base.
2Plug t e telep one line cord to t e TEL LINE jack and t e AC
adapter to t e DC IN 9V jack.
3Plug t e telep one line cord into t e telep one outlet.
4Wrap t e AC adapter cord inside t e molded wiring c annel.
T en wrap t e cord around t e strain relief notc .
5Plug t e AC adapter into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
6Raise t e antenna to a vertical position.
7Align t e mounting slots on t e base wit t e mounting posts
on t e wall. Pus in and down until t e p one is firmly seated.
8On t e base unit, pull t e andset retainer out of t e slot.
Rotate it clockwise 180 degrees.
9Flip t e retainer from front to back. Slide it back into t e slot
so t at t e lip of t e retainer is up and t e oval is down. T e
retainer olds t e andset in place.

Direct wall plate mounting
If you don’t ave a standard wall plate, you can mount your p one
directly to t e wall. Before doing t is, consider t e following:
• Avoid electrical cables, pipes, or ot er items be ind t e mounting
location t at could cause a azard w en inserting screws into
t e wall.
• Try to mount your p one wit in 10 - 15 feet of a working p one
jack to avoid excessive cord lengt s.
• Make sure t e wall material is capable of supporting t e weig t of
t e base and andset.
•Use #10 screws (minimum lengt of 1-3/8 inc es) wit anc oring
devices suitable for t e wall material w ere t e base unit will be
placed.
1Insert two mounting screws into t e wall, (wit t eir appropriate
anc oring device), 3-15/16 inc es apart. Allow about 3/16 of an inc
between t e wall and screw eads for mounting t e p one.
2Refer to steps 1 t roug 9 on page 9 to mount t e telep one.

C arge t e battery pack for at least 15 ours before you start
using your p one.
1 Press in on t e battery cover release and slide t e cover down
until it comes off.
2 Connect t e battery pack connector wit t e correct polarity
(black and red wires), t en insert t e battery pack into t e
battery compartment.
3 Securely close t e battery compartment cover by sliding it up
until it snaps into place.
4 Place t e andset on t e base.
5 Make sure t at t e status LED lig ts. If t e LED doesn’t lig t,
c eck to see t at t e AC adapter is plugged in and t at t e
andset makes good contact wit t e base c arging contacts.
PREPARING THE BATTERY PACK
Use only t e Uniden Battery (BT-905) supplied wit
your p one.

Battery use time (per charge)
From fully c arged
• Six ours continuous use.
• Ten days w en t e andset is in t e standby mode.
When the battery charge becomes low
W en t e battery pack is very low and needs to be c arged, t e
p one is programmed to eliminate functions in order to save
power. If t e p one is not in use, “Low Battery” flas es
and none of t e keys will operate. If t e p one is in use, “Low
Battery” flas es and t e andset beeps. Complete your
conversation as quickly as possible and return t e andset to t e
base unit for c arging.
Cleaning the battery contacts
To maintain a good c arge, it is important to clean t e battery
contacts on t e andset and base unit wit a dry clot or a
pencil eraser about once a mont .
Do not use any liquids or solvents.
Even w en t e
battery pack is not
being used, it will
gradually disc arge
over a long period of
time.
For optimum
performance, be sure
to return t e andset
to t e base unit after
a telep one call for
c arging t e battery.

Ringer tone and volume
T e p one as four types of ringer tone and volume combinations.
In t e standby mode, press or on t e andset repeatedly.
T e display s ows t e setting.
Earpiece volume
Pressing or during a call will c ange t e earpiece volume of t e andset. T is setting will
remain in effect after t e telep one call as ended.
W en you press in Loud mode or press in Normal mode, t e error tone sounds.

AutoTalk when ringing
W en t e AutoTalk setting is on and t ere is an incoming call, simply lift t e andset from t e base unit
to answer t e p one. See “Setting Caller ID options” on page 27 for more details.
Any key answer when ringing
W en t e AutoTalk setting is on and t e andset is off t e base, press any andset key to answer
t e incoming call.
Call Waiting
ote: You must subscribe to Call Waiting service to use this feature.
W en a call is received during a telep one call already in progress, press to switc to t e new call.
If you also subscribe to Call Waiting on Caller ID, you will see t e name and number of t e caller in call
waiting. (See page 35.)

TRAVELING OUT-OF-RANGE
During a call, as you begin to move your andset too far from your base unit, noise increases. If you pass
t e range limits of t e base unit, your call will terminate wit in 30 seconds.
