Thismanualcontainsimportantinstructionsthatmustbefollowedduringinstallationandmaintenance.
General
1. BeforeinstallingandusingtheSTSmodule,shelfandMBSunitreadallinstructionsandcautionary
markingsandallappropriatesectionsofthisguide.Besuretoreadallinstructionsandcautionary
markingsforanyattachedequipment.
2. Thisunitisdesignedforindooruseonly.Donotexposeanypartofthesystemtorain,snowor
spray.
3. Toreducetheriskoffirehazarddonotcoverorobstructanyventilationopenings.Donotinstall
theinvertersysteminazero‐clearancecompartment.
4. UseonlyattachmentsrecommendedorsoldbyUNIPOWER.Doingotherwisemayresultinarisk
offire,electricshockorinjurytopersons.
5. Toavoidriskoffireandelectricshockmakesurethatexistingwiringisingoodconditionandthat
wireisnotundersized.Donotoperatetheinvertersystemwithdamagedorsubstandardwiring.
6. Donotoperatetheinvertersystemifithasreceivedasharpblow,beendropped,orotherwise
damagedinanyway.
Wiringrequirements
1. Theinvertersystemisintendedtobeinstalledaspartofapermanentlygroundedelectricasystem
accordingtotheUSNationalElectricalCodeANSI/NFPA70(currentedition).Thisspecifiesa
singlepointgroundfortheinvertersystem.

2. Introduction
2.1 GeneralDescription
TheSTS(StaticTransferSwitch)moduleincreasessystemreliabilitybyautomaticallyswitchingbetweenthe
inverteroutputandtheACmains.Bysettingupthepriorityofoperation,userscanchangethesystem
statusto“onlinemode”or“offlinemode”.Theonlinemodewillsupplypowertotheloadfromthe
inverters.Incaseofaninverterfailureoroverload,theSTSwillswitchtheloadtotheACutility.In
offlinemodetheloadisalwaysconnectedtotheACutilityandwillswitchtotheinvertersintheeventof
ACutilityfailure.Thetransfertimeislessthan1/4cyclewhichavoidsanypowerinterruptiontotheload.
ThereliableperformanceoftheSTSmoduleprovidedmaximumprotectionagainstpossibledamageorloss
ofservicecausedbypowerfailure.

TheSTSwilldetectMainsvoltageandInvertervoltageinordertodecidesystem’ssupplymodewhenthe
systemisrunning.
IfbothMainsandInverterinputsarepresent,bydefaultMainshasprioritytodecidetheoperationalstatus
ofsystem;i.e.theSTSwillfirstlyconsiderMainsstatustodecidesystem’srunningvoltageandfrequency.

3.1 UnpackingandInspecting
UponreceivingtheSTSmoduleorchassis,removetheunitfromitspackagingandinspectitforscratches,
cracks,brokenconnectorsormissingaccessories.Yourinverterchassisshouldshipwiththefollowing
accessories.Ifanyaremissingordamageisdiscovered,repacktheunitandreturnittothesupplier.

3.2 Handling&Storage
IftheSTSmodule,shelfandMBSunitaregoingtobestoredpriortoinstallation,theyshouldbeplacedina
cool,dry,well‐ventilatedlocationfreefromrain,splashingwater,chemicalagents,etc.Theequipment
shouldbestoredinitsoriginalpackingmaterialuntilitisgoingtobeinstalled.
TheSTSmodulecanberemovedfromtheshelfbydrawingoutthehandle.Firstly,unscrewthesteelbolt,
thenpulloutthehandleuntilthewholemodulehasbeenremoved.WhentheSTSmodulehastobe
installedintheshelf,theboltshouldbescrewedintolockitinplace.
3.3 Location
Thesystemisdesignedforinstallationinaprotectedenvironment.Factorstobeconsideredinselectinga
locationincludeventilation,temperature,humidity,andaccessibility.Installthesysteminaclean,dry
locationwithanunrestrictedairflowandsufficientspaceforrearandfrontaccess.Maximum
performanceisavailableinambienttemperaturesfrom‐5°Cto50°C.Higherambienttemperatureswill
leadtoashorterlifetimeunlessthesystemcapacityisappropriatelyderated.Gassesemanatingfromthe
batterycanbecorrosiveandhighlyflammable,soisolatethesystemfromthebatterysourceasmuchas
possible.
3.4 FrameAssembly
3.4.1 Installingthecontroller/interface/STSchassis
1.Thecontroller/interface/STSchassisissuppliedasstandardwiththe19‐inchrack‐mountbrackets
fitted.For23‐inchrackmounting,theseneedtobeexchangewiththepropermountingbrackets.
Placethecontroller/interface/STSshelfintheequipmentrackhorizontallyimmediatelyabovethe
topmostinvertershelfandaligntheholesofmountingbracketswiththoseoftherack.Securethe
shelfinpositionwithfourofthesuppliedcrossheadpantypenickelscrewsasshownbelow.

2.Allinputandoutputconnectionsaremadethroughtheknockoutslocatedinthetopofrearcoverand
bothsidepanels.Removetherearcovertocommencewiring.Cuttherearcoverwithadiagonal
cutterontheindicateline.
3.4.2 InstallingtheMBSunit
1.TheMBSunitisalsosuppliedasstandardwiththe19‐inchrack‐mountbracketsfitted.For23‐inch
rackmounting,theseneedtobeexchangewiththepropermountingbrackets.PlacetheMBSunitin
theequipmentrackhorizontallyimmediatelyabovethecontroller/interface/STSshelfandalignthe
holesofmountingbracketswiththoseoftherack.Securetheshelfinpositionwithfourofthe
suppliedcrossheadpantypenickelscrewsasshownbelow.
2.Allinputandoutputconnectionsaremadethroughtheknockouts,locatedinthetopoftherearcover
andbothsidepanels.Therearcovermustberemovedtostartwiring.Cuttherearcoverwitha
diagonalcutterontheindicateline.
