Professional Digital Video Capture Interface for PC and MAC Platforms
Overview:
The Vaddio ProductionVIEW DV Capture interface is a high quality analog video to digital video converter
and capture device with audio for both PC and Mac FireWire/1394 enabled computer platforms. As a part
of the ProductionVIEW console suite of products, the DV Capture interface is the ultimate tool for
capturing and converting live or prerecorded, analog video and pro audio feeds into professional quality
DV format.
The DV Capture has standard definition video inputs that include composite video, S-Video and
component (Y, PB, PR) video and a 6-Pin FireWire/1394 output. The DV Capture is well suited to be used
with a professional audio mixer and is equipped with professional level, stereo line inputs on XLR
connectors as well as stereo line level inputs on RCA connectors. Each channel can also be attenuated
with the recessed level controls to ensure proper level matching between analog sources.
The Vaddio ProductionVIEW DV Capture interface is easy to use and is compatible with many of the
most popular video software packages available today. The DV Capture has universal device drivers
built-in for auto-recognition and driver installation when using Windows® XP or Windows 2000 and
Macintosh computers with OS 9.0.4 and above.
Intended Use:
Before installing the Vaddio ProductionVIEW DV Capture, please read the entire manual thoroughly. The
system was designed, built and tested for use indoors, and with the provided power supply and cabling.
The use of a power supply other than the one provided or outdoor operation has not been tested and
could damage the electronics and/or create a potentially unsafe operating condition.
Save These Instructions:
The information contained in this manual will help you install the Vaddio ProductionVIEW DV Capture.
For reference, Vaddio keeps copies of Specifications, Installation and User Guides and most pertinent
product drawings on the website. These documents can be downloaded from www.vaddio.com free of
charge.
Important Safeguards:
Read and understand all instructions before using. Do not operate any electrical device if it has been
dropped or damaged. In the case of damaged devices, a Vaddio technician must examine the product
before operating it. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not immerse in water or other liquids, and
avoid extremely humid conditions.
Camera and Electronic Products for Integrators
Use only the power supply provided with the ProductionVIEW DV Capture.

Optimize your system for DV capture and editing:
It is highly recommended that you complete the following procedures to ensure smooth video capture.
1. Make sure all of your drives are defragmented. This is done in Windows under
Accessories/System tools.
2. Make sure your drive has DMA enabled. This is done in Device Manager under Disk Drives.
This procedure may require you to reboot after you have enabled DMA on your hard drive.
3. If possible use a separate drive, even an external FireWire drive for saving captured video.
4. Close all unnecessary programs and background tasks when recording or exporting video.
Hardware Installation: Hardware Installation:
WINDOWS Quick Start
1. Connect the 6 Pin 1394 cable directly between the DV Capture and computer. Connecting
through a 1394 Hub/Repeater is not recommended.
2. Connect Audio/Video cables between your video devices and DV Capture.
3. Connect A/C Power adapter
4. Windows XP and Windows 2000 will automatically recognize the device and install drivers.
5. Once the device drivers are installed a “PYRO A/V Link” will appear under Windows Device
manager as an Imaging Device. Vaddio uses the PYRO A/V Link engine for the
ProductionVIEW DV Capture.
6. Start the Video capture or editing application.
7. Press the Play button on the video editor’s preview window to begin previewing video. Press
Record, or Capture button to begin recording to the computer hard drive.
Windows Software:
The drivers necessary for the DV Capture to operate with a Windows based PC are built into the
operating system. Once you plug in the device, Windows will recognize it and the device will appear
as an imaging device in Device Manager. If you already own video editing software such as Adobe
Premiere, you are ready to connect your video devices and start capturing video.

Capturing Video with your Video Capture/Edit Software (Windows & Mac)
When powered up, the DV Capture is ready to convert an analog video source into DV so you can
capture video to your computer via your capture/edit software.
Video Source:
DV Capture will auto detect which video input connections have a video source and automatically use
that source. Use the best video input source you have available, Component being best, S-VHS
second best and RCA (Composite) the lowest quality video source.
Previewing Video in Video Editing Software:
With most video editing software, the interface includes a video preview window.

Warranty Information:
Hardware* Warranty - One year limited warranty on all parts. Vaddio warrants this product against defects in
materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the day of purchase from Vaddio. If Vaddio receives notice
of such defects during the warranty period, they will, at their option, repair or replace products that prove to be
defective.
Exclusions - The above warranty shall not apply to defects resulting from: improper or inadequate maintenance by
the customer, customer applied software or interfacing, unauthorized modifications or misuse, operation outside the
normal environmental specifications for the product, use of the incorrect power supply, improper extension of the
power supply cable or improper site operation and maintenance.
Vaddio Customer service – Vaddio will test, repair, or replace the product or products without charge if the unit is
under warranty and is found to be defective. If the product is out of warranty, Vaddio will test then repair the product
or products. The cost of parts and labor charge will be estimated by a technician and confirmed by the customer prior
to repair. All components must be returned for testing as a complete unit. Vaddio will not accept responsibility for
shipment after it has left the premises.
Vaddio Technical support - Vaddio technicians will determine and discuss with the customer the criteria for repair
costs and/or replacement. Vaddio Technical Support can be contacted through one of the following resources: e-mail
support at [email protected] or online at www.vaddio.com.
Return Material Authorization (RMA) number - Before returning a product for repair or replacement, request an

the warranty for that device.

responsibility for laws and ordinances from inbound transit. Vaddio will pay for outbound shipping, transportation, and
insurance charges for all items under warranty but will not assume responsibility for loss and/or damage by the
