Thank you for purchasing a Veridian Healthcare Instant Ear Thermometer. Please
read this instruction manual completely before using your unit, to ensure safe
use, accurate results and long life of the thermometer.
Ear thermometers (also known as tympanic or aural thermometers), are a great
alternative to oral, rectal and underarm thermometers. The ear is an excellent
site for measuring temperature, as the part of the brain that regulates body
temperature shares a blood supply with the eardrum. This thermometer
provides results several times faster than the fastest oral thermometer, making it
ideal for infants and dgety children. It can even be used while the patient is
sleeping. Unlike readings from oral thermometers, factors such as smoking,
drinking, or speaking do not affect the measurements taken by ear
thermometers.
The Instant Ear Thermometer takes 512 readings in one second, then converts
those data to a single peak temperature, which appears on the display. With
proper care, your new thermometer will provide your entire family with many
years of safe, accurate and comfortable temperature readings.

QUICK TIPS
• Ear temperature readings are equivalent to oral temperature readings.
• Readings taken while asleep should not be compared directly to readings
taken while awake, as body temperature while asleep is typically lower.
• Always take temperature readings from the same ear, as ears may differ in
temperature.
• Wait at least 20 minutes after bathing before taking a temperature reading to
ensure the most accurate results.
• The best position for infants when taking a reading is lying at, with the head
to the side so the ear being used faces the ceiling.
• For adults and children, a standing position is best. The person taking the
reading should stand behind and slightly to the side.
• For certain people, it is best to take three consecutive readings (waiting at
least 10 seconds between each), using the highest temperature as the
reading. These populations include:
- Infants less than 100 days old
- Children under three years with compromised immune systems, or in cases
where the monitoring of temperature is important
- New users of the Instant Ear Thermometer, who are unfamiliar with the
technique
• Normal temperature readings can vary from 97.0° F to 99.0° F (36.1°C to 37.2°
C). Level of activity, time of day, and other factors may affect body
temperature.

1. Clean the lens at the tip of the thermometer, using alcohol and
a soft cotton swab. Cleaning the lens before each use ensures
the most accurate reading and prevents cross-contamination,
see page 9 for complete cleaning and care instructions.
2. Press and release the red “SCAN” button. The thermometer will
perform a brief self-test, during which all indicators on the
display will be shown, Fig. 1, followed by the last reading taken.
3. The thermometer will beep, indicating that the unit is ready for
measurement. ently insert the probe into the ear canal until a
slight resistance is felt, Fig. 2.
4. Press and release the SCAN button again, while keeping the
probe in place. A beep will sound when the measurement is
complete.
5. The temperature reading will be shown on the display.
6. If the temperature measurement is below 100.4° F, the beep
indicating the reading is complete will be a single, short beep.
A happy face will be displayed next to the reading, Fig. 3.
7. If the reading is 100.4° F or above, the unit will sound a long
beep, followed by two short beeps. A sad face will be displayed, Fig. 4.
8. After about one minute after use, the thermometer will automatically beep and shut
off.
9. Clean the thermometer lens again after use. Wait at least 10 seconds between
consecutive readings, to ensure accuracy.
NOTE: The backlit display will remain lit for approximately 5 seconds each time the SCAN
button is pressed, after each reading is completed, and each time the Memory (M)
button is pressed to recall a previous reading.

Your Instant Ear Thermometer automatically stores the
last 10 readings taken. To view the readings stored in
memory, press the SCAN button to turn the
thermometer on and wait for the beep. You may then
press the Memory button to recall the most recent measurement. Press the Memory
button multiple times to view previous readings (the unit will beep each time you
switch readings). The index number to the left of the temperature reading indicates
the sequential number of the stored reading you are currently viewing, Fig. 1.

CHANGING MODES
Your thermometer can display results in either degrees
Fahrenheit (°F) or degrees Celsius (°C). To switch between
Fahrenheit and Celsius, press and hold the SCAN button.
While holding the SCAN button, press the Memory (M) button
to toggle between modes. Figs 1, 2.

REPLACING THE BATTERY
Your thermometer came with one lithium battery (type CR2032) installed. When
the low battery symbol appears, the battery needs to be replaced.
Replacing the battery, Fig. 1:
1. Slide the battery cover off
2. Carefully remove the old battery. Do not use a metal-pointed tool.
3. Insert the new battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
4. Replace the battery cover
5. Dispose of the old battery properly at an appropriate
facility. Keep the battery away from children,
sunlight and heat. Fig. 1

CARE AND SAFETY INFORMATION
Improper care or use of your thermometer may result in damage to the unit or
inaccurate readings, which can lead to a misdiagnosed fever. Following these
instructions will ensure the thermometer’s accuracy and long life.
• Never allow the thermometer to be used without adult supervision.
• Do not use excessive force to insert the probe into the ear; proper use should
not cause pain or discomfort.
• The ear should be clean before using this thermometer; earwax in the ear
canal may cause an incorrect reading. For proper ear cleaning techniques,
consult a healthcare professional.
• Do not use the thermometer if the ear is infected or the ear canal is wet.
• The patient should remain still and avoid talking while the thermometer is in
use.
• Clean the lens before and after each use.
• Do not touch the lens with ngers.
• Store the thermometer in the storage case when not in use.
• Do not store the thermometer in direct sunlight, dusty or humid
environments, or extreme temperatures. Exact gures for appropriate use and
storage can be found in the Product Specications section of this manual.
• If the patient’s temperature is below the ambient air temperature, an
inaccurate reading may result.
• Dropping the thermometer or causing other heavy impact may damage it.
• Do not disassemble the thermometer or attempt to repair it (other than
replacing the battery).
• If a reading cannot be taken, and the troubleshooting steps do not x the
problem, the thermometer must be replaced.

CLEANING AND STORAGE
The lens should be cleaned before and after each use, to
eliminate earwax and ngerprints and ensure the accuracy
of your readings. Proper storage will prevent degradation
and damage to the unit.
CLEANING:
• An alcohol swab, or a soft cotton swab moistened with
70% isopropyl alcohol, should be used to gently cleanse
the probe lens and thermometer casing, Fig. 1-3.
• Never use a paper towel to clean your thermometer, as it
may scratch the lens.
• Do not immerse the thermometer or allow liquid to enter
the casing.
• Do not use cleaning agents other than alcohol to clean
the thermometer; abrasives, thinners or gasoline will
damage the unit.
TORAGE:
• Always store the thermometer in the provided storage
case.
• Protect the thermometer from mechanical shock or heavy
impact.
• Store the unit in an area away from sunlight, dust and
humidity.
• Keep the thermometer in an environment between 68° F
and 122° F (20° C - 50° C).
• Remove the battery during extended storage.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY
The warrantor guarantees that its Instant Ear Thermometer will be free from
manufacturing defects under normal use for as long as the original purchaser
owns the product. This warranty covers only normal use, and does not apply to
use in any clinical or commercial applications. This warranty does not cover
batteries or other power sources that may be provided with or used with the Ear
Thermometer. This warranty is voided if the Ear Thermometer product is misused
or abused in any manner.
If the Instant Ear Thermometer fails to operate during the time the original
purchaser owns it, return it postage prepaid to: Repair Department, 1175
Lakeside Drive, Gurnee, IL 60031. The warrantor will repair or replace the
defective unit at the option of the warrantor. Repair or replacement of the
defective unit, at warrantor’s option, is the sole remedy under this warranty.
ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES WHICH THE PURCHASER MAY HAVE ARE LIMITED IN
DURATION TO THE TIME THAT THE ORI INAL CONSUMER PURCHASER OWNS THE
PRODUCT. Some states do not allow limitations or how long an implied warranty
lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
This warranty constitutes the warrantors only responsibility and obligation to
repair and/or replace materials or components, or refund the purchase price. The
warrantor will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special,

Los termómetros para oído (también conocidos como termómetros timpánicos o
auriculares), constituyen una magníca opción frente a los termómetros orales,
rectales y axilares. El oído es un lugar excelente para medir la temperatura, pues

El termómetro de medición instantánea para oído toma 512 lecturas en un

SUGERENCIAS RÁPIDAS
• Las lecturas de temperatura en el oído son equivalentes a las que se miden en
la boca.
• Las lecturas que se toman mientras el paciente duerme no deben compararse
directamente con las lecturas tomadas con el paciente despierto, pues la
temperatura corporal mientras se duerme es, típicamente, inferior.
• Tome siempre la temperatura en el mismo oído, pues puede haber diferencias
en los valores de temperatura.
• Espere un mínimo de 20 minutos después del baño antes de tomar la
temperatura, a n de garantizar máxima precisión en los resultados.
• La mejor posición para los bebés al tomarles la temperatura es recostados, con
la cabeza de costado, de manera tal que el oído donde se tomará la lectura
esté mirando hacia el techo.
• En el caso de adultos y niños, la mejor posición es parado. Quien tome la
presión debe pararse detrás del paciente y ligeramente hacia un lado.
• Para determinadas personas, es mejor tomar tres lecturas consecutivas (a
intervalos mínimos de 10 segundos entre cada una), y considerando la
temperatura más alta como el valor de lectura. Estas poblaciones incluyen:
-- Bebés de menos de 100 días de nacidos
-- Niños menores de tres años con sistemas inmunológicos comprometidos o
casos en donde sea importante controlarles la temperatura
-- Usuarios nuevos del termómetro de medición instantánea para oído que no

• Los valores de lecturas normales de temperatura varían de 97,0° F a 99,0° F (de

1. Limpie la lente que se encuentra en la punta del termómetro
con un hisopo de algodón suave embebido en alcohol. La
limpieza de la lente antes de cada uso asegura la lectura más
precisa y previene la contaminación cruzada. Para instrucciones
completas de limpieza y cuidados, consulte la página 21.
2. Pulse y libere el botón rojo “SCAN” (exploración). El termómetro
realizará una prueba automática breve durante la cual se
mostrarán todos los indicadores en el visor, Fig. 1, seguido por la
medida pasada tomada.
3. El termómetro emitirá un sonido ‘beep’ indicando que la unidad
está lista para la medición. Introduzca suavemente la sonda en
el canal auditivo hasta sentir una leve resistencia, Fig. 2.
4. Vuelva a pulsar y liberar el botón SCAN, mientras mantiene la
sonda en posición. Se escuchará señal audible cuando la
medición haya nalizado.
5. En el visor se mostrará el valor de lectura de la temperatura.
6. Si la temperatura medida es inferior a 100,4° F, la unidad emitirá
una única señal audible corta para indicar que la lectura ha
nalizado. Al lado de la lectura se visualizará una carita feliz,

7. Si la lectura es igual o superior a 100,4° F, la unidad emitirá una señal audible larga,
seguida de dos cortas. Se visualizará una carita triste, Fig. 4.
8. Aproximadamente un minuto después de usarlo, el termómetro emitirá una señal
audible y se apagará en forma automática.
9. Vuelva a limpiar la lente del termómetro después de usar la unidad. Espere un
mínimo de 10 segundos entre lecturas consecutivas para garantizar la precisión.
NOTA: El visor retroiluminado permanecerá encendido durante aproximadamente 5
segundos cada vez que se pulse el botón SCAN, después de nalizada cada lectura y
cada vez que se pulse el botón de memoria (M) para recordar un valor anterior.

El termómetro de medición instantánea para oído almacena
los últimos 10 valores de lecturas tomadas. Si desea ver las
lecturas almacenadas en la memoria, pulse el botón SCAN
para encender el termómetro y espere a escuchar la señal
audible. A continuación, pulse el botón de memoria para
recordar la medición más reciente. Pulse el botón de memoria varias veces para visualizar
valores anteriores (la unidad emitirá una señal audible cada vez que usted cambie de
lecturas). El índice que se encuentra a la izquierda del valor de temperatura tomado indica

CÓMO CAMBIAR LA BATERÍA
El termómetro se entrega con una batería de litio (tipo CR2032). Cuando se
presente el símbolo de poca batería, será necesario cambiala.
Cómo cambiar la batería, Fig. 1:
1. Deslice la tapa de la batería para extraerla.
2. Quite la batería vieja con cuidado. No use una herramienta
punzante de metal.
3. Introduzca la batería nueva con el lado positivo (+) mirando
hacia arriba.
4. Vuelva a colocar la tapa.
5. Disponga de la batería vieja según corresponda.
Mantenga la batería lejos de los niños, de la luz directa del sol y del calor.

INFORMACIÓN DE CUIDADOS Y DE SEGURIDAD
El uso o cuidado inadecuado del termómetro podría dañar la unidad o producir
lecturas imprecisas; lo cual daría un diagnóstico erróneo de ebre. Si sigue estas
instrucciones, se garantizará la precisión y la vida útil prolongada del termómetro.
• Nunca permita que el termómetro sea usado sin la supervisión de un adulto.
• No introduzca la sonda en el oído ejerciendo demasiada fuerza; el uso adecuado
no causará dolor ni molestias.
• El oído debe estar limpio antes de usar el termómetro; la cera en el canal auditivo
puede dar como resultado lecturas incorrectas. En relación con las técnicas
adecuadas para la limpieza de oídos, consulte con un profesional de cuidados
médicos.
• No use el termómetro si el oído está infectado o con el canal auditivo mojado.
• El paciente debe quedarse quieto y sin hablar mientras esté usando el
termómetro.
• Limpie la lente antes y después de cada uso.
• No toque la lente con los dedos.
• uarde el termómetro en el estuche cuando no lo use.
• No guarde el termómetro en lugares con luz directa del sol, en ambientes con
polvo o humedad o con temperaturas extremas. En la sección Especicaciones
del producto del manual hallará los datos exactos para un uso y almacenaje
adecuados.
• Si la temperatura del paciente está por debajo de la temperatura ambiente
atmosférica, podrían obtenerse lecturas imprecisas.
• El termómetro puede dañarse por caída u otro impacto fuerte.
• No desarme el termómetro ni intente repararlo (excepto para cambiar la batería).
• Si no pueden tomarse lecturas y los pasos de la sección de detección de
problemas no solucionan la situación, deberá cambiarse el termómetro.
