VIA EPIA-P820 Overview
The VIA EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX mainboard is an ultra compact nati e x86 platform for a wide range of
embedded system applications. The mainboard is based on the VIA VX855 All-in-One System
Processor featuring the VIA Chrome9™ HCM DX9 IGP with ideo accelerators for rich digital media
performance.
The VIA EPIA-P820 onboard VIA Nano 1.2 GHz NanoBGA2 processor is a green, secure, and
efficient processor with its included VIA Padlock Security Engine, VIA CoolStream™ Architecture,
VIA StepAhead™ Technology Suite, and VIA TwinTurbo™ technology.
The VIA EPIA-P820 deli ers the performance le els with its included sizeable support of up to 2 GB
of 800 MHz DDR2 memory and nati e support for SATA 3Gb/s storage de ices.
The VIA EPIA-P820 is fully compatible with Microsoft
®
and Linux operating systems.

Power Consumption
Power consumption tests were performed on four different configurations. The following tables
show the mainboard’s oltage, amp and wattage alues while running common applications in the
Windows XP en ironment.

Power Specifications
The VIA EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX mainboard utilizes a +12V DC-in power connector for pro iding power
to the mainboard. The dimensions of the DC-in port are show in the figure below.

M ICROSOFT D RIVER S UPPORT
The VIA EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX mainboard is compatible with Microsoft operating systems. The latest
Windows XP dri ers can be downloaded from the VEPD website at www. iaembedded.com.
For embedded operating systems (Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded), the related dri ers
can be found in the VIA Embedded website at www. iaembedded.com.
INUX D RIVER S UPPORT
The VIA EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX mainboard is highly compatible with many Linux distributions.
Support and dri ers are pro ided through arious methods including:
•Dri ers pro ided by VIA
•Using a dri er built into a distribution package
•Visiting www. iaembedded.com for the latest updated dri ers
•Installing a third party dri er (such as the ALSA dri er from the Ad anced Linux Sound
Architecture project for integrated audio)
