System Configurations
There are four general system configurations using the V1400X-DVC System Console: Standalone,
NOVA/AURORA/VCR, MSS/NOVA/AURORA/VCR and AURORA/VCR ONLY. In a standalone system,
there is no control system (CPU). You may connect receivers directly to the system console in this
configuration. In installations with control systems, receivers are connected to the control system. The
same is true for a matrix switcher (without CPU card); you may connect one directly to the system console
in standalone configuration, but you would connect the switcher to the control system in
NOVA/AURORA/VCR or MSS/NOVA/AURORA/VCR configurations. Like standalone systems,
AURORA/VCR ONLY systems do not include a control system. AURORA/VCR ONLY systems allow you
to control multiplexers and VCRs using V800MIU Multi-Output Interface devices. Multiple system consoles
and
V800KBD
AurorA99 Remote Keyboards are permitted (up to 8 total).
In a MSS/NOVA/AURORA/VCR system, you will need the V1400X-MSS Multi-System Selector. The
master system console can be used to select each of the control systems using the system console
V1300 or V1400 Series Control screen. A NOVA/AURORA/VCR system does not require the multi-system
selector, as control system selection is not relevant (there is only one control system).

Fail-Safe Device is used to daisy-chain system consoles. Refer to page 13 for
illustrations of daisy-chained system consoles. The system console must be used with the fail-safe device
to ensure continuous communication with all consoles should one console become inoperable.
Two control (or “pointing”) devices are available for use with the system console, the VI 400X-JST Joystick
Keypad and the V1400X-DJT Desk-Top Joystick. Only one device may be used at a time. The joystick
keypad may be customized for left- or right-handed users using a conveniently located switch. A trackball,
with an optional trackball shaft, is used to control receiver functions. Buttons are used to control lens
functions. The desk-top joystick contains one button used to control all lens functions and LEDs to indicate
which function is active. A traditional joystick is used for receiver control. Both the joystick keypad’s
trackball and the
Vi
400X-DJT’s
joystick are used to make choices in the
AurorA99/AurorA
menu system.

Installation and Programming Overview
The installation pages in this manual are set up in four sections, to reflect the four installation
configurations. In addition to choosing the correct installation configuration, you must also define your
system correctly using the system console software. The following steps will enable you to decide which
configuration is appropriate for your CCTV site and direct you to the corresponding programming sections.

10
If you have more than one system console, refer to pages 12 and 13 for star and daisy-chain
configurations.
If you will use the VI 400X-DJT Desk-Top Joystick or Vi 400X-JST Joystick Keypad, refer to page 15.
Refer to page 17 to begin programming the system console software, continuing to define your
settings until you reach the chapter titled System Settings. In Selecting the Mode, choose the mode
which corresponds to your system as chosen in step 1 above.
Continue in the System Settings chapter, using the following to reference the correct section. You will
only define one system (standalone, NOVA/AURORA/VCR, MSS/NOVA/AURORA/VCR or
AURORA/VCR ONLY), so disregard the other sections under Defining the Mode.
If you have chosen any mode except standalone, you may have AurorA99 and/or AurorA Digital
Multiplexers in your system. If so, refer to page
29.
Refer to page 28 if you have VCRs in your system. VCRs cannot be used in standalone mode.
Continue with the programming chapters, referrina to the Reference chabter if necessarv.
