Safety instructions for working on the system
Working on the system
■Where gas is used as the fuel, close the main gas
shut-off valve and safeguard it against unintentional
reopening.
■Isolate the system from the power supply, e.g. by
removing the separate fuse or by means of a mains
isolator, and check that it is no longer live.
■Safeguard the system against reconnection.
■Wear suitable personal protective equipment when
carrying out any work.
Danger
Hot surfaces and fluids can lead to burns or
scalding.
■Before maintenance and service work, switch
OFF the appliance and let it cool down.
■Never touch hot surfaces on the boiler, burner,
flue system or pipework.
!Please note
Electronic assemblies can be damaged by elec-
trostatic discharge.
Prior to commencing work, touch earthed
objects such as heating or water pipes to dis-
charge static loads.
Repair work
!Please note
Repairing components that fulfil a safety func-
tion can compromise the safe operation of the
system.
Replace faulty components only with genuine

Auxiliary components, spare and wearing parts
!Please note
Spare and wearing parts that have not been tes-
ted together with the system can compromise its
function. Installing non-authorised components
and making non-approved modifications or con-
versions can compromise safety and may inva-
lidate our warranty.
For replacements, use only original spare parts
supplied or approved by Viessmann.
Safety instructions for operating the system
If you smell gas
Danger
Escaping gas can lead to explosions which may
result in serious injury.
■Do not smoke. Prevent naked flames and
sparks. Never switch lights or electrical appli-
ances on or off.
■Close the gas shut-off valve.
■Open windows and doors.
■Evacuate any people from the danger zone.
■Notify your gas or electricity supply utility from
outside the building.
■Have the power supply to the building shut off
from a safe place (outside the building).
If you smell flue gas
Danger
Flue gas can lead to life threatening poisoning.
■Shut down the heating system.
■Ventilate the installation site.
■Close doors to living spaces to prevent flue
gases from spreading.
What to do if water escapes from the appliance
Danger
If water escapes from the appliance there is a
risk of electrocution.
Switch OFF the heating system at the external
isolator (e.g. fuse box, domestic distribution
board).
Danger
If water escapes from the appliance there is a
risk of scalding.
Never touch hot heating water.
Condensate
Danger
Contact with condensate can be harmful to
health.
Never let condensate touch your skin or eyes
and do not swallow it.
Flue systems and combustion air
Ensure that flue systems are clear and cannot be
sealed, for instance due to accumulation of conden-
sate or other external causes.
Avoid continuous condensate disposal with a wind pro-
tector.
Ensure an adequate supply of combustion air.
Inform system users that subsequent modifications to
the building characteristics are not permissible (e.g.
cable/pipework routing, cladding or partitions).
Danger
Leaking or blocked flue systems, or an inade-
quate supply of combustion air can cause life
threatening poisoning from carbon monoxide in
the flue gas.
Ensure the flue system is in good working order.
Vents for supplying combustion air must be non-
sealable.
Extractors
Operating appliances that exhaust air to the outside
(extractor hoods, extractors, air conditioning units, etc.)
can create negative pressure. If the boiler is operated
at the same time, this can lead to a reverse flow of flue
gas.
Danger
The simultaneous operation of the boiler and
appliances that exhausts air to the outside can
result in life threatening poisoning due to a
reverse flow of flue gas.
Fit an interlock circuit or take suitable steps to
ensure an adequate supply of combustion air.

Intended use
The appliance is only intended to be installed and
operated in sealed unvented heating systems that
comply with EN 12828, with due attention paid to the
associated installation, service and operating instruc-
tions as well as the details in the datasheet.
It is only designed for the heating up of heating water.
Commercial or industrial usage for a purpose other
than the heating up of heating water shall be deemed
inappropriate.
Intended use presupposes that a fixed installation in
conjunction with permissible components designed for
this purpose has been carried out.

The high limit safety cut-out is preset to 110 °C and, if
required, can only be adjusted by changing the coding
card.
Filling the heating system with water and venting
Record the volume filled, water hardness and pH value
on page 62.
Note
Observe the "Water quality requirements" on
page 64.
Filling the trap with water

1. Undo 4 screws. Remove the centre and bottom
back panels.
2. Undo the siphon and fill with water so that no flue
gas can escape.
Danger
Flue gas escaping from the trap or conden-
sate drain can cause life threatening carbon
monoxide poisoning. To prevent flue gas
from escaping, always connect the conden-
sate drain with a trap. Always fill the trap
with water before commissioning.
3. Check that the condensate can drain freely.
4. Refit the trap.
Note
The hose connection to the on-site condensate
system or to the neutralising system must not be
permitted to sag. Support the hose connection with
pipe if necessary.
Opening the boiler
1. Switch OFF the mains isolator or the power supply,
and safeguard against unauthorised reconnection.
Danger
Mains voltage can be life threatening.
For maintenance work, isolate the system
from the power supply.

2. Remove front panels and, if necessary, the front of
the top panel and the side panel (on the side
where the boiler door is hinged). For this, undo the
M5 screw from the top of the front panel.
Disengage the location studs from the side panels,
tip the front panel slightly forward and lift away
from the lower front panel.

4. To remove the side panel and top panel, undo the
M6 screws on the top rail and on the lower support.
5. Close the gas shut-off valve.
Checking the gas type
1. Check with your gas supply utility regarding the
gas type and Wobbe index (Wo).
■With the natural gas E setting, boilers can be
operated in the Wobbe index range 12.0 to
16.1 kWh/m3 (43.2 to 58.0 MJ/m3).
■With the natural gas LL setting, boilers can be
operated in the Wobbe index range 10.0 to
13.1 kWh/m3 (36.0 to 47.2 MJ/m3) (not in a or
c).
■With the LPG P setting, boilers can be operated
in the Wobbe index range 20.3 to 22.5 kWh/m3
(72.9 to 81.2 MJ/m3).
2. In the delivered condition, the burner is set up for
natural gas E. If required, convert the burner to a
different gas type in accordance with the details
provided by your gas supply utility: See page 13
onwards.
3. Record the gas type in the report on page 62.

01. Close the gas shut-off valve.
02. Turn OFF the ON/OFF switch on the control unit.
03. Switch OFF the mains isolator (outside the instal-
lation room) or power supply and secure against
unintentional reconnection.
04. Undo fitting A from the gas supply pipe.
05. Disconnect control cables G from the gas train.
06. Release the gas train from flange E.
07. Remove restrictor C with rubber cork gasket D.
08. Secure the gas train (without restrictor C and
without rubber cork gasket D) with inserted O-
ring B to flange E. For this, replace the factory-
fitted M5 x 16 screws with the M5 x 12 ones sup-
plied.
09. Tighten the M5 x 12 screws diagonally.
Torque: 1.5 Nm.
10. Secure fitting A.
11. Plug control cable G into the gas train.
12. Check control cables:
■Connection and kink-free routing
■Fixing and firm seating of retaining clips
13. Affix the label "Set to ..." F supplied over existing
label.
14. Start the burner (see page 15).
15. Check for gas tightness.

The system will be restarted.
Note
The setting parameters are displayed each time
the system is restarted.

Danger
CO formation as a result of incorrect burner
adjustment can have serious health implications.
Always carry out a CO test before and after
work on gas appliances.
Tightness test
Gaskets on the boiler door and components that route
flue gas can be checked during operation with an
inspection mirror.
If required, remove the thermal insulation components.
Traces of condensate on the outside of the flue gas
collector or on sections of thermal insulation also indi-
cate leaks.
Note
It is essential to check the burner settings with the
boiler heated to operating temperature (min. 40 °C).
Also check in the partial load range.

07. Turn ON the system ON/OFF switch on the control
unit.
Note
The burner will start with a delay of approx. 3 min.
If a fault is shown on the control unit and the dis-
play on the burner control unit is flashing, first per-
form a reset. Press reset button R on the burner
control unit and reset the burner at the control unit.
Vitotronic operating instructions
Note
The appliance can enter a fault state during com-
missioning if there is still air in the gas line (fault
indicator on the control unit illuminates). Purge the
gas line again and reset the burner control unit.
If the fault persists, the inlet strainer of the gas
train may have become blocked by work carried
out on the gas line.
Danger
Escaping gas leads to a risk of explosion.
First close the shut-off valves in the gas line
again.
Unscrew the flange on the gas train and clean the
strainer. A blocked strainer is not recognised by
the gas pressure test at the flange.
08. Adjust the codes at the boiler control unit.

09. Check the function of the neutralising system (if
installed), including the hydraulic seal in the
siphon.
Neutralising system operating instructions
10. Check all gaskets and plugs, and retighten if nec-
essary.
Note
We recommend checking all connections on the
heating water side for tightness approx. every 500
hours run.

Static pressure
1. Close the gas shut-off valve.
2. Undo the screw in test connector A. Do not
remove.
3. Connect the pressure tester at test connector A.
4. Open the gas shut-off valve.
5. Check the static pressure (max. 60 mbar/6 kPa).
6. Record the actual value in the report (on
page 62).
Supply pressure
1. Start the burner.
Note
For commissioning, see page 15. Switch the
burner to maximum heating output. For this, acti-
vate the emissions test switch at the control unit.
2. Check the supply pressure (flow pressure); see the
following table.
Note
The supply pressure (flow pressure) for natural gas
should be between 18 and 50 mbar (1.8 and
5 kPa), and for LPG between 42.5 and 57.5 mbar
(4.25 and 5.75 kPa).
Nominal supply pressure for natural gas: 20 mbar
(2 kPa)
Nominal supply pressure for LPG: 50 mbar (5 kPa)
The boiler is factory-fitted with 2 gas pressure
switches. The gas pressure switches are set to
10 mbar (1 kPa). For LPG, set the two gas pres-
sure switches to 20 mbar (2 kPa).
3. Record the actual value in the report (on
page 62).
4. Close the gas shut-off valve.
5. Remove the pressure tester and then close test
connector A.

Control cables – delivered condition
Note
The control cables must be routed without kinks and
plugged in correctly. The hose ends of the control
cables must be secured with wire clamps to prevent
them from being pulled off/falling off.
