Safety instructions for working on the system
Working on the system
■Isolate the system from the power supply, e.g. by
removing the separate fuse or by means of a mains
isolator, and check that it is no longer live.
Note
In addition to the control circuit there may be several
power circuits.
Danger
Contact with live components can result in
severe injuries. Some components on PCBs
remain live even after the power supply has
been switched off.
Prior to removing covers from the appliances,
wait at least 4 minutes until the voltage has
completely dropped out.
■Safeguard the system against reconnection.
■Wear suitable personal protective equipment when
carrying out any work.
Danger
Hot surfaces can cause burns.
■Before maintenance and service work, switch
OFF the appliance and let it cool down.
■Never touch hot surfaces on the appliance, fit-
tings or pipework.

Electronic assemblies can be damaged by elec-
trostatic discharge.
Prior to commencing work, touch earthed
objects such as heating or water pipes to dis-
charge static loads.

Danger
Electromagnetic radiation near the wiring cham-
ber of the heat pump control unit can interfere
with electrical devices such as heart pacemak-
ers and defibrillators.
■Wearers of heart pacemakers:
Avoid the immediate vicinity of the heat pump
control unit wiring chamber; consult a doctor
beforehand if necessary.
■Store and use defibrillators outside the area at
risk.
Danger
Incorrectly executed electrical installations can
result in injuries from electrical current and dam-
age to the appliance.
Connect the power supply and implement all
safety measures (e.g. RCD circuit) in accord-
ance with the following regulations:
■IEC 60364-4-41
■VDE regulations
■Technical connection requirements specified
by the local power supply utility

Danger
Contact with live components can lead to seri-
ous injury from electric current. Some compo-
nents on PCBs remain live even after the power
supply has been switched off.
■Isolate the system from the power supply (e.g.
by removing the separate fuse or by means of
a mains isolator), check that it is no longer live
and safeguard against reconnection.
Note
In addition to the control circuit there may be
several power circuits.
■Prior to removing the heat pump covers, wait
at least 4 minutes until the voltage has drop-
ped off.
■Never touch terminal areas of the heat pump
control unit or power connections (see
page 34).
Danger
The absence of component earthing can result
in serious injury from electrical current and in
component damage in the event of an electrical
fault.
■Re-establish all earth connections of the heat
pump.
■The heat pump and pipework must be groun-
ded to the equipotential bonding of the build-
ing.

Work on the heat pump
Note
Before commissioning and after repair or maintenance
work, check that the heat pump is in the intended con-
dition.
Danger
Heavy and unwieldy heat pump components
can result in life threatening crushing or break-
ages if they fall or are dropped.
■Use suitable ropes/slings and lifting gear when
installing/dismantling compressors and heat
exchangers, for example.
■Wear appropriate protective clothing (e.g.
safety boots) in compliance with applicable
regulations on accident prevention and in line
with trade association recommendations.
Work on the refrigerant circuit
Danger
Direct contact with refrigerant can be harmful to
the skin.
■Only work on the refrigerant circuit whilst
wearing safety goggles and gloves.
Note
Work on the refrigerant circuit must only be
carried out by a qualified refrigeration engi-
neer.
■Wear suitable protective clothing.
Danger
Refrigerant circuits of heat pumps develop
extremely low (-20 °C) and very high (+130 °C)
temperatures. Work on heat pumps can result in
life threatening frostbite and burns.
■Switch OFF the heat pump at least 30 min
before maintenance work.
■Never touch the injection valve or compressor
with bare hands; wear safety gloves if contact
is necessary.
■Wear suitable protective clothing.
Danger
R1234ze is a non-poisonous gas that displaces
air. Unregulated escape of refrigerant R1234ze
in enclosed spaces can result in breathing diffi-
culties and suffocation.
■Never breathe in refrigerant vapours.
■Ensure adequate ventilation in enclosed
spaces.
■Prevent open flames.
■Observe regulations and guidelines on han-
dling this type of refrigerant.

Work on the casing
Danger
Breaking through the knockouts on the back
panel leaves behind sharp edges that can lead
to life threatening injuries.
■Finish and seal the edges appropriately before
installation.
Note
Damage to the surfaces of the casing can lead to cor-
rosion.

Please dispose of packaging waste in line with statu-
tory regulations.
DE: Use the disposal system organised by
Viessmann.
AT: Use the ARA statutory disposal system (Altstoff
Recycling Austria AG, licence number 5766).
CH: Packaging waste is disposed of by the HVAC
contractor.

Characteristics:
■Brine/water heat pump with electronic heat pump
control unit

valve (EEV).

a heating circuit provided on site for cooling or a sep-

■Electrical connection of system components
(pumps, mixers, valves, message facilities, contac-
tors, function extensions, sensors etc.):
Connections are made inside the heat pump wiring
chamber. See information on page 34 onwards.
■Power supply:
The number of power cables from the meter box to
the heat pump wiring chamber depends on the sys-
tem version and tariffs used. See information on
page 42 onwards.
Transport and siting requirements
■The Vitocal 350-HT Pro is delivered as a standard
unit. Side panels are packed separately for fitting on
site.
■The programming unit of the PLC control unit is
delivered loose inside the wiring chamber and must
be fitted and connected on site. See page 45.
■Accessories are delivered separately.
■No charging with oil or refrigerant required. The heat
pump has been charged with oil and refrigerant at
the factory.
Unloading and handling
Note
Before unloading, have the recipient check the con-
signment for damage. Note down any damage on the
delivery note and notify the haulage contractor.
■Lifting gear, such as slings and cross beams, must
be provided on site.
■The lifting capacity of each sling and that of the cross
beam must be at least equal to the shipping weight.
See "Specification".
■Only use suitable equipment for unloading the lorry;
see the following chapter.
!Please note
To prevent appliance damage, observe the fol-
lowing when unloading and handling the heat
pump.
■Never put weight on top of the appliance.
■To protect the paintwork, wrap the lifting gear
(such as ropes, cross beams) and place pad-
ding between the heat pump and lifting gear.
■Observe correct weight distribution when lift-
ing. Due to the heat exchanger, the heat pump
centre of gravity is on the l.h. side.
■Avoid impact and shocks to prevent damage
to the internal pipework of the heat pump.
■To protect the refrigerant circuit, do not tilt the
compressor too far: Max. tilting angle of the
heat pump 30°.
Viessmann (Switzerland) AG accepts no liability for
any damage resulting from incorrect handling.

Unfavourable ambient conditions can lead to
malfunctions and appliance damage.
■The installation room must be dry and free
from the risk of frost.
■Ensure ambient temperatures between 0 and
28 °C.
Danger
Dust, gases and vapours can be damaging to
health and trigger explosions.
Avoid dust, gases and vapours in the installation
room.
!Please note
Overloading the floor can result in damage to
the building structure.
Observe the permissible floor load. Take the
weight of the appliance into account.

R1234ze refrigerant
The refrigerant R1234ze is considered to have low
flammability. It is a refrigerant with safety class A2L.
We recommend ventilating the installation room and
the machine casing, routing the extract air outside and
providing a refrigerant sensor to monitor refrigerant
leaks.
Service and repair work must only be carried out by
trained personnel with the relevant skills.
Or to EN 60335-2-40:
Anyone working on the refrigerant circuit must prove
their competence in the safe handling of refrigerants
by means of a procedure known in the industry. They
must be able to produce a certificate of competence
issued by an organisation with industry accreditation.
Service work may only be carried out in accordance
with the manufacturer's specifications. If maintenance
and repair work require assistance from additional indi-
viduals, the trained person should constantly supervise
the work.

Carefully read and observe the installation and service
instructions before starting work. Both documents are
included in the heat pump technical documentation.
The EC safety datasheet for R1234ze can be obtained
from the Technical Services department of Viessmann
Werke.
Applying the EC regulation
According to EC regulation no. 1272/2008, observe the
following:

The refrigerant is considered to have low flammability.

■Propane: At 20 °C, the ignition energy is 0.25 MJ
■Ammonia: At 20 °C, the ignition energy is 680 MJ
Warning notices
The following warning notices are used to check the
requirements that already have to be met when
designing and constructing:
■Only operate the equipment in a room without con-
stant ignition source.
■Only operate the equipment in rooms with adequate
minimum room volume (EN 378) (see table above),
unless adequate forced ventilation is provided.
General information regarding R1234ze during
operation and service
High operating temperatures of > 90 °C can be ach-
ieved on the secondary side (heating) with this refriger-
ant.
There is a correspondingly high risk of burns when
touching non-insulated heating and refrigerant lines
carrying liquid refrigerant.
General information regarding the refrigerant
On contact with air, oxygen causes R1234ze refriger-
ant to degrade within a few days. This must be preven-
ted within the refrigerant circuit.
Absolute cleanliness when working:
■Avoid scale when brazing or soldering (copper oxide
also contains oxygen).
Always braze or solder with nitrogen.
■Always evacuate to 0.25 mbar.
Break vacuum with nitrogen.
Use a high performance vacuum pump.
■Avoid water and moisture in the refrigerant circuit.
Always close off conduits and components immedi-
ately.

Sound-insulating base

site for the purpose of additional noise attenuation and
even weight distribution.
