The Vitocal 300-A is an air/water heat pump with an electric drive.
■ Up to 3 heating circuits (2 with mixers)
can be heated.
■ Any peak heat demand can be cov-
ered by an integral immersion heater
(mono-energetic operation, acces-
sory).
■ Cooling is provided directly by the heat
pump (active cooling) via a heating cir-
cuit, e.g. underfloor heating circuit, or
via a separate cooling circuit, e.g. chil-
led ceiling or fan convector.
■ The control side of this equipment is
prepared for DHW heating using an
external DHW cylinder, and the control
of a DHW circulation pump.
■ At times of the highest DHW demand
the DHW cylinder can be reheated
with an immersion heater EHE (acces-
sory).
Your system is preset at the factory
The control unit is preset at the factory.
After you select a specific operating
mode (see page 17 onwards), your
heat pump is ready for use:
■ Central heating with standard room
temperature (20 °C) is provided all
day.
■ DHW is heated (50 °C) all day.
If a heating water buffer cylinder is
installed, it will be heated.
The DHW circulation pump is switched
off.
■ Day and time (CET) are preset at the
factory.
Winter/summertime changeover is
implemented automatically.
You can change the standard settings
preset at the factory in accordance with
personal requirements.
Note
All data is saved if there is a power fail-
ure.

During any power interruption by the
power supply utility, the control unit dis-
plays the text shown in the diagram.
The control unit restarts with the selected
operating mode as soon as the power
supply utility restores the power supply.
It is technically possible to activate cen-
tral heating during power interruptions if
the system has a heating water buffer
cylinder. For this, please consult your
local heating contractor.

You can change all the settings for your heat pump centrally via the programming
unit.
You can also make some adjustments via the remote control, if your system is equip-
ped with one.

Heating circuits
Your building may be heated by several
independent heating circuits (e.g. under-
floor heating circuits or radiator cir-
cuits).
■ If several heating circuits are connec-
ted, any adjustments made at operat-
ing mode selector H (see page 10)
affect all heating circuits.
If you want to make changes, contact
your local heating contractor, who can
set a fixed temperature value for indi-
vidual heating circuits.
■ If a remote control (e.g. Vitotrol 200) is
connected to a heating circuit, the
operating mode selected via the
remote control applies to this heating
circuit.

The commissioning and matching of the control unit to local conditions and the struc-
tural characteristics of the building must be carried out by your heating contractor.
1. Check the heating system pressure
at the pressure gauge:
The system pressure is too low if the
indicator points to the area below
1.2 bar. In this case, top up with water
or notify your local heating contrac-
tor.
2. Switch ON the power supply, e.g. at
a separate fuse/MCB or a main iso-
lator.
3. Switch ON/OFF switch A ON.
After a short time, the current operat-
ing conditions and selected set tem-
peratures appear on the display.
Your heat pump and remote control
unit (if installed) are now ready for
use.
Shutting down the heat pump
If you do not want to use your heat pump
for a short time, e.g. during a holiday,
enable the holiday program (see
page 25) or switch the operating mode
selector to standby 9 (see page 18).
We also recommend you switch your
heat pump to standby if it will not be
required for longer periods (several
months).
■ The system frost protection is ensured
in standby mode; however, at temper-
atures below −20 °C, it is only ensured
if an immersion heater (instantaneous
heating water heater in the heating
water flow, accessory) is installed.
■ The circulation pumps are briefly star-
ted every 24 hours to prevent them
from seizing up.
If you do not want to use your heat
pump, you can shut it down at the system
ON/OFF switch.
■ Frost protection is no longer enabled.
■ All control unit settings are retained.

We recommend you contact your local
heating contractor before and after shut-
ting down your heat pump for longer peri-
ods.
Where necessary, your contractor can
then take certain steps, e.g. protecting
the system against frost.
Note
Drain heat pumps installed outside if
they are shut down for longer periods.
Starting central heating/cooling and DHW heating
You want to heat or cool rooms and have DHW available.
Central heating
■ Central heating is only activated if the
outside temperature falls below the
heating limit. The heating limit can be
set by your local heating contractor.
Cooling via a heating circuit
■ Cooling via the heating circuit, e.g. an
underfloor heating system, only
occurs when the outside tempera-
ture has exceeded the cooling limit.
The cooling limit can be set by your
local heating contractor.
Cooling via a separate cooling circuit
(if installed)
■ Cooling with a separate cooling circuit,
e.g. chilled ceiling or fan convector,
occurs based on the room tempera-
ture. The cooling mode is always star-
ted if the room temperature exceeds
the starting limit. The starting limit can
be set by your local heating contractor.
Since it is independent of the outside
temperature, a separate cooling circuit
can provide cooling all year round, e.g.
for a storage room.
Note
In the delivered condition, the cooling is
switched off. To enable the heat pump to
switch over to cooling mode (active cool-
ing), it needs to be enabled once. You
can cancel this enabled status at any
time (see page 39).

Observe the following points if you
want to activate central heating:
1. s, m or u must be selected at the
operating mode selector:

2. You can set the temperatures for
standard room temperature (for day-
time) and reduced room temperature
(for night time) (see pages 20
and 21).
3. The selected switching times deter-
mine when central heating or cooling
according to the time program (u) will
be activated with standard or reduced
room temperature (see page 22).
Check:
■ Press "Information".
■ Press "Switching times".
■ Press the key for the required
switching time, e.g. "Switching
times HC1", and the set time pha-
ses appear on a time slot graphic.

Setting the standard room temperature
In the delivered condition, the standard room temperature is set to 20 °C with rotary
selector s set to its centre position. The preset temperature for the centre position
of the rotary selector can be programmed separately for every heating circuit (see
page 21).
You can adjust this temperature by
±5 °C in 1 °C steps at rotary selector s,
without altering the programmed value.
