The Vitocal 222-G/242-G/333-G/343-G
are brine/water heat pumps with integral
DHW cylinder. Solar collectors can be
connected to the Vitocal 242-G and 343-
G to provide DHW heating.
An instantaneous heating water heater
(accessory) can be integrated into all of
these appliances to cover peak demand
for central heating and DHW heating.
All connected components are operated
and controlled via the integral heat pump
control unit Vitotronic 200, type WO1A
with plain text menu prompts.
The individual appliances are differenti-
ated according to the following product

Note
These operating instructions also
describe functions that are not available
with all models or only with accessories.
These functions are not universally iden-
tified in each case.
The type and extent of menu entries in
the heat pump control unit also depend
on the equipment level of your heating
system and the selected settings/adjust-
ments on the heat pump control unit.
In case of questions relating to the extent
of functions and accessories for your
heat pump and your heating system,
check with your local heating contrac-
tor.

The commissioning and matching up of
the heat pump control unit to local con-
ditions and to the structural characteris-
tics of the building, plus the instruction of
the user in operating the system, must
be carried out by your heating contrac-
tor.
Your system is preset at the factory
At the factory, the heat pump control unit
is set to"Heating and DHW".
Your heating system is therefore ready
for use:
Central heating/cooling
■ Your rooms are heated to 20 °C "Set
room temperature" around the clock
(standard heating mode).
■ If a heating water buffer cylinder is
installed, it will be heated.
■ Cooling will be switched OFF.
■ Your heating contractor can make fur-
ther settings for you during commis-
sioning.
You can change any settings individu-
ally at any time to suit your require-
ments (see chapter "Central heating/
cooling").
DHW heating
■ DHW is heated around the clock every
day. DHW is heated to 50 °C.
■ Any installed DHW circulation pump is
OFF.
■ Your heating contractor can make fur-
ther settings for you during commis-
sioning.
You can change any settings individu-
ally at any time to suit your require-
ments (see chapter "DHW heating").
Frost protection
■ Frost protection for your heat pump,
the DHW cylinder and any heating
water buffer cylinder that may be
installed is enabled.
Winter/summertime changeover
■ This changeover is automatic.
Time and date
■ The day and time were set by your
heating contractor during commission-
ing.
Power failure
■ All data is saved if there is a power
failure.

To provide you with a better understand-
ing of the functions of your heat pump
control unit, the appendix contains the
chapter "Terminology" (see page 51).

Utilise the setting options offered by the
heat pump control unit A and by the
remote control (if installed):
■ Never overheat your rooms. Every
degree by which the room temperature
is reduced saves up to 6% on heating
costs.
Set your room temperature no higher
than 20 ºC (see page 18).
■ Never set the DHW temperature too
high (see page 27).
■ Only activate the DHW circulation
pump for when DHW is drawn off reg-
ularly. Set the time program for this
(see page 31).
■ Select the program that meets your
current requirements:
– For short absences (e.g. shopping
trips), select "Economy mode"
(see page 25).
As long as economy mode is activa-
ted, the room temperature is
reduced.
– If you are going away, set the "Hol-
iday program" (see page 25).
As long as the holiday program is
activated, the room temperature is
reduced and DHW heating is OFF.
– In summer, when you don't want to
heat any rooms but do need DHW,
select the operating program "DHW
only" (see page 28).
– If you don't want to heat the rooms
and you don't require DHW for an
extended period, select the operat-
ing program "Standby mode" (see
page 15).
For additional energy saving functions of
the heat pump control unit, please con-
tact your heating contractor.

Further recommendations:
■ Correct ventilation/airing.
Briefly open windows B fully and at
the same time close thermostatic radi-
ator valves C (if no domestic ventila-
tion system is installed).
■ Close roller shutters (if installed) at
dusk.
■Set thermostatic valves C correctly.
■Never cover radiators D or thermo-
static valves C.
■ Controlled DHW consumption: A
shower generally uses less energy
than a full bath.

You can change any settings on your
heat pump centrally at the programming
unit of the heat pump control unit.
If remote control units are installed in
your rooms, you can also adjust the set-
tings at the remote control units.

The programming unit can be placed in
a wall mounting base. This is available
as an accessory. Ask your heating con-
tractor about it.
