1. Introduction
This installation guide provides the basic instructions for Visonic’s ioXpander-12x4 Module installation scenarios. A
new addition to the PowerMaster-33 E G2 control panel, the ioXpander-12x4 Module is a wired input/output expander
that communicates with the PowerMaster-33 E G2 through the ioXpander-8 module.
ioXpander-12x4 Module Features:
12 wired inputs that enable to connect to 12 H/W zones
4 relay outputs.
Siren output (SRN) and Strobe output (STR)
Front and back cover tamper switches for improved tamper protection
RS-485 bus to communicate with the panel
The ioXpander-12x4 Module is supported by the PowerMaster-33 E G2 only

2. General Guidelines
1. Keep away from all heat sources.
2. Do not expose to air drafts.
3. Do not install outdoors.
4. Avoid direct sunshine.
5. Keep wiring away from power cables.
6. Mount on solid stable surfaces.
IMPORTANT: The ioXpander-12x4 Module MUST BE POWERED
DOWN while wiring the I/Os and when connecting to the RS-485 bus.
This will prevent accidental damage to the device.

3. Installing the ioXpander-12x4 Module
The ioXpander-12x4 Module enclosure provides tamper detection and accessible wiring cavities.
1. To open the front cover: remove screws on the
sides, place fingers in the opening grove of each
side and the push the cover upward.
3. Remove the securing screw and push the
tab to release the PCB with the interface.
2. Release the protective cover snap and remove
the cover.
4. Knockouts provide cable accessibility when
mounting on gang boxes or over hollow
panels. Use a cutter or screwdriver to open
knockouts. Insert screws through rear cover
into the wall or ceiling. Note: make sure the
trunking knockouts align with the holes.

5. Mount to wall. To mount onto a wall, insert
screws through the corners holes of the base.
Note: drill mounting holes first. To thread wires
from the side, open the wire holes from any
direction (there is one on each side of the box),
and thread the wires through the holes. Wrap
any excess wire around the PCB.
7. Assemble the protective cover by placing it
over the interface and snapping it into place.
6. Snap the PCB back into place and make sure
the tamper cap is in place. Thread the cables
inside the box through the cable cavities and
connect as needed to the terminal blocks.
8. Place the top cover and secure it with
screws on both sides

4. Configuration
The PowerMaster-33 E G2 can support up to 4 ioXpander-12x4 Modules for a total of 48 wired zones.
Every ioXpander-12x4 Module is connected and registered to the ioXpander-8 module using a RS-485 bus
(230000 bps).
The ioXpander-12x4 has two LEDs
Green
Power - Lights continuously when powered.
Red
When the ioXpander-12x4 is connected, registered, and communicating with the
PowerMaster-33 E G2 the red LED is off. Otherwise, it blinks every second.
4.1 Inputs:
Every HW-Zone that connects to a ioXpander-12x4 Module must be enrolled in the PowerMaster-33 E G2. Each
ioXpander-12x4 Module can connect up to 12 HW Zones. For more information refer to section 6: “Enrollment
Process.”
Configure each HW-zone wiring type setting: EOL/NO/NC based on the type of sensor wired to the zone input (see
below).
Note: Each HW-Zone reports 3 possible states: Normal, Alarm, or Tamper. Both Line Cut and Line Short are
reported as Tamper (see below). Regarding the wired zones, the control panel classifies the events according to the
resistance it measures as shown in the tables below.

4.2 Outputs:
The PowerMaster-33 E G2 supports up to 16 outputs. The first 8 outputs are reserved for the ioXpander-8 Module.
The other 8 outputs (PGM9 –PGM16) can be distributed among the ioXpander-12x4 Module. The installer needs to
enroll each PGM output to the required output pin of the required ioXpander-12x4 Module. For more information
refer to section 6: “Enrollment Process.”
4.3 Siren and Strobe Outputs:
The ioXpander-12x4 Module has built-in Siren and Strobe outputs. There is NO NEED TO ENROLL these outputs.
The Siren and Strobe outputs automatically activate when their functions are enabled in the PowerMaster-33 E G2.
The installer can choose to leave these outputs unconnected.

5. Connecting the ioXpander-12x4 Module
5.1 Wiring:
Power should be wired using < 22 AWG. Data should be wired using 26 AWG (Cat 5).
The wired detector should be installed at least 2 meters away from the control panel.
The Panel that connects to the ioXpander-12x4 Module should be wired as a bus configuration.
Use only a power supply that is safety approved for IEC/EN 60950-1 as a limited power source (LPS) with a
rated voltage of 12Vdc and rated current of __1__a max.
Both the CP and PS that are used for powering the ioXpander-12x4 Module must be EN 50131-6 certified.
The loads that can connect to the relay outputs must be limited to a maximum of 12 VDC, 8A or 24 VDC, 4A!
Example of ioXpander-12x4 Modules connected to external power supply with 12 hour backup battery.
5.2 Termination:
Each end of the RS-485 bus must be terminated with a 100 Ohm resistor.

6.8 Cautions-
If an enrolled ioXpander-12x4 Module does NOT communicate with the PowerMaster-33 E G2 (whether it is
powered OFF, not connected, or for any other reason), the following is displayed on the KP-250 screen:
"Expander IOV E0x MISSING", it must be deleted at once by the Installer.
Every ioXpander-12x4 Module connected to the PowerMaster-33 E G2 must be enrolled.
