Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this camera. Everything you need to take quality digital photos and
videos is included with your camera.
Vivitar makes capturing those special moments as easy as possible.
Note: Your camera needs an SD Memory card (up to 16GB) for normal use.
SD Memory cards are not included and need to be purchased separately.
Please read this manual carefully first in order to get the most out of your digital camera.

Main Camera Modes
Your camera has different modes for the various camera functions.
You can switch modes by pressing the MODE (M) button on your camera after the camera has
been powered ON.
Video Capture Mode
Use this mode to capture videos with your digital camera.
This is the default mode when the camera is powered ON.
To take a video, aim your camera as desired and press the Shutter button to start the
record. A blinking record indicator will appear on the LCD screen while record is in
progress. To stop the record, press the Shutter button again. The video will be
automatically saved to your camera‟s memory card.
To access the various menus for the Video Capture mode, press the SET button while in
the Video Capture mode.
Photo Capture Mode
Use this mode to capture pictures with your camera.
After turning on your camera, press the MODE (M) button once to open the Photo Capture
mode.
To take a picture, aim your camera as desired and press the Shutter button.
The picture will be automatically saved to your camera‟s memory card.
To access the various menus for the Photo Capture mode, press the SET button while in
the Photo Capture mode.
Playback Mode (Photos & Videos)
Use this mode to view and manage the photos and videos on your camera.
After turning on your camera, press the MODE (M) button twice to open the Playback mode
for photos and videos. You can scroll through the photos and videos that you‟ve previously
taken to view, edit or delete them as desired.
To access the various menus for the Playback mode for photos and videos, press the SET
button while in the Playback mode.

To be able to download photos and videos to your PC, you will need the following minimum
configuration:

Using Your Digital Camera
Make sure the batteries have been inserted properly into your digital camera.
If your camera comes with a rechargeable lithium battery, make sure it is fully charged before
the first use.
Make sure an SD card has been inserted into your camera.
(SD card up to 16 MB - SD Card not included)
Powering the camera ON
Press the Power button to turn your camera ON. The camera will be in Video Capture mode
to start.
Powering the camera OFF
While the camera is on, you can press the Power button again at any point to turn your
camera OFF. You will see a “Goodbye” splash screen and then the camera will power off
completely.
Note: Your digital camera also has an Auto Power Off feature that will automatically turn off
your camera after a specific period of time that your camera is left idle. The Auto Power Off
settings can be set from the Auto Power Off settings in the Photo mode menu.
Changing Camera Mode
Your camera has three main modes:
1) Video Capture Mode - Use this mode to capture videos with your camera.
2) Photo Capture Mode - Use this mode to capture photos with your camera.
3) Playback Mode (for photos and videos) - Use this mode to view the photos and videos
you have already taken with your camera.

When the camera is first powered ON, the Video Capture Mode will be active. The icons that
appear on the LCD screen are the best default settings so that you can begin to capture and
enjoy clear quality videos and photos.
To change the active camera mode, make sure the camera is powered ON and press the MODE
(M) button.
When in Video Capture Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the LCD display
When in Photo Capture Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the LCD display
When in Playback Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the LCD display
Navigating the Menus
Each camera mode has a set of menus specific to that mode.
1) Press the SET button to open the menus for the current mode.
2) Press the LEFT or RIGHT direction control buttons to scroll between the various menus for
the current mode.
3) Press the UP or DOWN direction control buttons to highlight the desired menu selection.
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and select the highlighted menu option.
5) Changes made to these options will remain until you change them again at a later time.
6) At any time you can press the MODE (M) button to exit the menus and return to the previous
screen.

selected Photo Playback mode.
Quickly moves forward or backward the selected video during
Video Playback.
Pressing the Left button opens the Thumbnail View.
The Left and Right buttons allows you to scroll through the
images in Thumbnail View.
Menu Mode:
Allows you to scroll through the various menus in the settings for
each mode.
Up and Down
Photo Mode:
The Down button activates the Self-Timer in Photo Mode.
The Up button activates the Continuous 3 Shot.
Playback Mode:
The Up and Down buttons display previous or the next
Photos/Videos when in Playback mode.
The Down button stops playing a Video in Playback mode.
The Up and Down buttons allows you to scroll through the
images in Thumbnail View.
Menu Views:
The Up and Down buttons allow you to scroll through the various
submenu options for each menu.

Video Capture Mode
The Video Capture Mode allows you to capture videos with your digital camera. When the
camera is first powered ON, the camera will be in Video Capture Mode.
Taking a Video
1) While in Video Capture Mode use the LCD display to direct the camera at the scene you
would like to capture.
2) Click the Right - T/Zoom In and Left - W/Zoom Out buttons to better set the camera
display if desired.
3) Press the Shutter button to start the video capture.
4) The elapsed time will begin to appear on the top right corner of the LCD screen and the
icon will begin to flash on the screen.
5) To stop the video record, press the Shutter button again.
6) The video will automatically be saved to the camera‟s memory or SD card.
7) You can also capture your videos using the Flip Screen.
When you would like to quickly and easily include yourself in the video, simply flip the LCD
display out and hold out the camera facing towards you. Make sure you can see yourself
within the scene on the LCD screen and click the Shutter button begin recording. It‟s as
easy as twist and shoot!
Note: The amount of recording time available for the resolution selected will appear on the top
center of LCD screen. The lower the resolution setting the more recording time is available.
However videos recorded at lower resolution are of less quality than videos recorded at the
higher resolution.
Remember, the amount of time that you can capture videos also depends on the size of the SD
memory card inserted as well as the video resolution selected.
Video Capture Mode Menus
The following are the settings that appear in your camera‟s Video Capture Mode:
White Balance and Image Size .

1) To view and change the Video settings, press the SET button in the Video mode.
2) The Video menu option icons appear on the bottom of the screen, with the White Balance
menu open by default.
White Balance Menu
The White Balance feature allows your camera to adjust the coloring of the captured images
depending on the type of light source in the current environment.
Properly adjusting the White Balance setting to match your current environment will allow the
camera to properly balance the colors in the images that are taken with your camera.
1) Press the SET button in the Video mode to open the White Balance menu.
2) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the option you wish to choose from the
submenu:
Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent
3) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save the White Balance setting.
4) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
5) The LCD screen will be adjusted as per the White Balance option you selected.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
Image Size Menu
The Image Size menu allows you to choose the desired size of the images taken by your camera.
Keep in mind that images with a larger size will also take up more of your camera‟s memory.
1) Press the SET button in the Video mode.
2) Press the Right button to select the Image Size menu.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the image size you wish to choose:
VGA (640x480)
QVGA (320x240)
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save your Image Size setting.
5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.

6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
Note: Videos captured in VGA are of a better quality than QVGA videos and therefore take up
more memory.
Video Playback Mode
When you first turn on the camera, the camera will be in Video Capture mode by default. Press
the MODE (M) button twice to open the Playback Mode. The Playback mode will allow you to
review and edit photos and videos that you‟ve already taken with you camera.
Playing Videos on Your Camera
Once in Playback mode, press the Up or Down direction buttons to scroll through the images on
your camera‟s memory card. Each captured image will display on the LCD screen. Videos will
appear with a filmstrip icon on the top left of the LCD screen.
Video Playback Mode Quick Function Buttons
Your digital camera has a four-directional pad that functions as Quick Function buttons.

Plays the selected video file with sound.
Pauses the selected playing video.
Left
Quickly rewinds the selected video while it is playing.
Opens Thumbnail view (when not playing a selected video).
Allows you to scroll through the images while in Thumbnail view.
Up
Displays the PREVIOUS image (when not playing a selected video).
Allows you to scroll through the images while in Thumbnail view.
Right
Quickly forwards the selected video while it is playing.
Allows you to scroll through the images while in Thumbnail view.
Down
Stops the video playback.
Displays the NEXT image (when not playing a selected video).
Allows you to scroll through the images while in Thumbnail view.

Thumbnail View
Easily navigate and select the image you wish to view by using the Thumbnail View.
The images on your camera will be displayed in a 3 X 3 matrix where you can use the direction
buttons to scroll and select images from the thumbnails.
1) Press the Left - W/Zoom Out button
2) All the images on your camera will appear in the Thumbnail View.
3) Use the direction buttons to scroll and select the image you wish to view.
4) Press the Shutter button to enlarge the image full size.
Video Playback Mode Menus
To view and change the Video Playback settings, press the SET button in the Video Playback mode.
The following are the menus that appear in your camera‟s Video Playback Mode:
Protect and Delete .
Protect Menu
Pictures and Videos taken with your camera can be protected or “locked” to prevent any deletion
or alteration being made to the files.
1) Press the SET button in the Video Playback mode to enter Protect menu.
2) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the submenu options:
Lock Unlock
3) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save the Protect setting.
4) Any image that is locked will display a lock symbol on the LCD screen when viewing that
image in the playback mode. Videos that are not locked will not display the lock symbol.
5) Remember that you cannot delete locked videos.
Delete Menu
While in the Playback mode, you can delete videos from your camera through the Delete menu.
Note: You cannot delete files that are locked.
1) Press the SET button in the Playback mode.
2) Press the Right or Left direction buttons to select the Delete icon.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the submenu options:

4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm your selection.
5) If you selected „This Image‟, a Delete confirmation message appears.
6) Press the Right or Left direction buttons to select „Yes‟ to delete the current image or „No‟ to exit.
7) If „Yes‟ is selected, press the OK/ Shutter button to confirm and delete the image.
8) If you selected „All‟, a Delete confirmation message appears.
9) Press the Right or Left direction buttons to select „Yes‟ to delete all the images on the SD
card or „No‟ to exit.
10) If „Yes‟ is selected, press the OK/ Shutter button to confirm and delete all the images on the
SD card. Locked images will not be deleted.
11) All the unprotected images sitting on the card will be deleted.
Photo Capture Mode
The Photo Capture mode allows you to capture pictures with your digital camera.
Taking a Picture
1) Turn on your digital video recorder.
2) Press the Mode (M) button once to select and enter the Photo Capture mode.
3) The camera icon will appear on the top left corner of the LCD.
4) The amount of photos that can be captured with the available memory and as per the
selected resolution will appear on the top right corner of the LCD screen.
5) Compose your picture with the LCD screen.
6) Press the Right - T/Zoom In and Left - W/Zoom Out buttons to better set the camera
display if desired.
7) Press the OK/Shutter button to capture and save your photo to the memory card.
8) You can also capture your photos using the Flip Screen.
When you would like to quickly and easily include yourself in the photo, simply flip the LCD
display out and hold out the camera facing towards you. Make sure you can see yourself

within the scene on the LCD screen and click the Shutter button to take the picture. It‟s as
easy as twist and shoot!
Note: The lower the resolution setting the more photos can be taken. However lower resolution
photos are of less quality than photos taken at higher resolution.
Photo Capture Mode Quick Function Buttons
Self Timer/Down Button
The Photo Capture mode has a self timer feature to include yourself in the photo.
1) Press the Down button to activate the Self-Timer option.
2) The first option that appears on the top of the LCD is for a 2 seconds self- timer.
3) Press the Down button again to choose the 10 seconds option.
4) Press the Down button again to exit the Self-Timer mode.
5) Select the option you desire and position the DVR to take the photo.
Place the DVR on a flat and sturdy surface or attach a tripod to the tripod socket on the
bottom of your DVR.
6) Press the OK/Shutter button to activate the Self-Timer function.
7) The Self-Timer countdown clock appears in the center of the LCD.
8) Quickly position yourself in the photo.
9) The camera will emit loud beeps for every second of the countdown as selected. After the
last beep the photo will be captured and saved to the SD memory card.
Continuous 3 Shot/Up Button
The camera can be setup to take 3 continuous shots with 1 second intervals, with one press of
the Shutter button. This feature will only work with an SD memory card inserted in to the DVR.
1) Press the Up button to activate the Continuous 3 Shot option.
2) The Continuous 3 Shot icon appears on the right side of the LCD.
3) Aim the DVR in the direction of the scene you wish to capture.
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to activate the Continuous 3 Shot feature.

5) The DVR will now automatically capture 3 photos one after the other with 1 second intervals
between the shots.
6) The photos are saved to the SD memory card.
Photo Capture Mode Menus
The following are the menus that appear in your camera‟s Photo Capture Mode:
Scene , Image Size , Anti-Shake and Setup .
Scene Menu
The Scene Menu allows you to choose scene settings that allow your camera to adapt properly to
your current environment.
1) Press the SET button in the Photo Capture mode to enter the Scene menu.
2) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the option you wish to choose:
Auto , Night Portrait , Night Scenery , Portrait , Scenery , Sport ,
Party , Beach and High Sensitivity .
3) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save your Scene settings.
4) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
5) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
Image Size Menu
The Image Size menu allows you to choose the desired size of the images taken by your camera.
Your Digital Video Recorder supports 2 camera photo resolutions –1.3M and VGA. Keep in mind
that images with a higher resolution will also take up more of your camera‟s memory.
1) Press the SET button in the Photo Capture mode.
2) Press the Right or Left direction buttons to select the Image Size menu.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the option you wish to choose:
1.3M（1280 x 1024）
VGA (640 x 480)
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save your Image Size settings.

5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
Note: Photos taken in 1.3M (1280 x 1024) are of a better quality than VGA (640 x 480) photos
and therefore take up more of the memory on the SD memory card.
Anti-Shake Menu
The Anti-Shake feature reduces image distortion that can be caused by movement of the camera
while capturing the image.
1) Press the SET button in the Photo Capture mode.
2) Press the Right or Left direction buttons to select the Anti-Shake menu.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the option you wish to choose:
On
Off
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm and save your Anti-Shake settings.
5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
Setup Menu
The Setup Menu allows you to adjust various camera functions:
Exposure, ISO, White Balance, Sharpness, Quality, Auto Power Off, Language, Frequency,
Format, TV Out and Default.
To access the Setup Menu:
1) Press the SET button in the Photo Capture mode.
2) Press the Right button to select the Setup menu.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select one of the Setup submenu options.
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to open the submenu options.
Exposure
The Exposure setting helps you control the amount of light that enters your camera‟s lens.

This setting should be adjusted when the environment is lighter or darker than normal.
When the environment has more light than is needed, reduce the exposure setting (by using the
negative - count) to reduce the amount of light allowed into the lens by your camera.
If the environment has less light (darker) than is needed, increase the exposure setting (by using
the positive + count) to increase the amount of light allowed into the lens by your camera.
1) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the Exposure option in the Setup menu.
2) Press the OK/Shutter button.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select an Exposure value (from 3 brightest to -3
darkest)
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm, save and exit to the Photo Capture mode.
5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
ISO
The ISO menu allows you to set the level of sensitivity that your camera has to light in the
surrounding environment.
When the ISO level is increased, the image sensor in your camera will be more sensitive to light
and allow you to capture images in lower-light situations. The higher sensitivity to light however,
may reduce the quality of the images that are taken.
When the ISO is reduced, the image sensor in your camera will be less sensitive to light and will
optimize the image quality in environments with bright lighting.
1) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select the ISO option in the Setup menu.
2) Press the OK/Shutter button.
3) Press the Up or Down direction buttons to select an ISO value from the menu that appears:
Auto, 100, 200 and 400
4) Press the OK/Shutter button to confirm, save and exit to the Photo Capture mode.
5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually change the
setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
