This manual
contains important information on using
your Volkswagen Marine Boat Engine. You
should read this manual carefully prior to in-
itial operation to quickly become familiar
with the engine and to know how to operate
and handle the engine.
Along with regular service and main-
tenance, proper operation and use of the
Volkswagen Marine Boat Engine make an
important contribution to maintaining its
value.
Additional warranty information are
contained in the service schedule.
For safety reasons, please also be
sure to follow the safety precau-
tions and the information on
changes and part replacement in the
Instruction Manual.
Equipment
This manual contains information covering
the full range of options available as we
went to press. Some of the equipment may
not be available until a later time.
Equipment marked with an asterisk
are not part of the standard equip-
ment of the Volkswagen Marine
Boat Engine.

Themulti-functiondisplayoffers youabroad
range of information.
With the multi-function display (MFD) you
can display a broad range of information on
consumption and speed/kilometrage1).
In this manual you will learn how to select
a menu and which information you will
obtain.
The basis is software version 1.06.
1) When connected to an NMEA-capable navi-
gation device.

The multi-function display offers you two
settable profiles for the selection of the
options to be displayed.
These profiles are called DEFAULT and
USER. You can change each of these
profiles, i.e. you can save the displays you
desire in these profiles.

Press and hold button Afor the MFD while
turning the ignition key twice to position 2.
Depending on the previous selection, the
display Metric or U.S. appears.

You can specify the display units of the
MFD.
After entering the programming
mode you can scroll through the following
options by briefly pressing the MFD button
Metric or U.S. ➟DEFAULT or USER ➟
VALUE ➟END
Whether Metric or U.S. or DEFAULT or
USER is displayed is dependent on the
previous setting.
Press the MFD button A- see page 4 -
once long and then once short while in the
display Metric or U.S. Now you can select
the following items by briefly pressing the
MFD button A- see page 4:
Metric ➟U.S. ➟End
Pressing the MFA button Alonger - see
page 4 - selects Metric or U.S.. Then you
move to the End display by pressing briefly
and complete the entry by pressing the
button longer.

Selecting profile
You can choose from two MFD profiles.
After entering the programming
mode you can scroll through the following
options by briefly pressing the MFD button
Metric or U.S. ➟DEFAULT or USER ➟
VALUE ➟END
Whether Metric or U.S. or DEFAULT or
USER is displayed is dependent on the
previous setting.
Press the MFD button A- see page 4 -
once long and then once short while in the
display DEFAULT or USER. Now you can
select the following items by briefly pres-
sing the MFD button A- see page 4:
DEFAULT ➟USER ➟End
By pressing the MFD button Alonger - see
page 4 - you select DEFAULT or USER
(depending on which profile you want to
display). Then you move to the End display
bypressing briefly repeatedly and complete
the entry by pressing the button longer.
Scroll to the display End again and press
the button longer.

You can specify the menu items to be
displayedineachprofile.

Press the MFD button Aonce long and then

By pressing the MFD button Alonger you
select DEFAULT or USER (depending on
which profile you want to display). Then the
individual menu items are scrolled further
each time you press the button briefly. For
rows of menu items as specified in Over-
view of possible display options,see
page 3.
Selected items are marked with an asterisk
(*). Switching between menu items
selected and those not selected is carried
out by pressing the MFD button Alonger in
each case. Briefly pressing the button
advances to the next display option. Finally,
the menu item End must be confirmed by
pressing the button longer.

After switching on the ignition, NEUTRAL
appears in the display. The gearbox is in the
neutral position and the engine can be
started.
Should NEUTRAL flash, this means that
the gearbox is not yet in the ”Neutral”posi-
tion. The engine cannot be started.
Move the gearbox into the ”Neutral”posi-
tion.
The illustration shows the pattern of the
driving lever.
1- Forward
2- Shiftingforward
3 - Neutral
4 - Shifting reverse
5 - Reverse
After starting the engine, you can scroll
through the selecteddisplayoption with the
MFD button A.

You can reset the trip operating hours
meter. To do this, press and hold the MFD
button Ain normal operation until RESET
appears in the display.
Note
Resetting resetsall valuewiththeexception
