Theradionavigationsystemmakesitveryeasy
tohandletheconvenientfeaturesforradio,CD
andnavigationinyourcar.Thesystemcanalso
befittedwithanoriginalVolkswagen6-discCD
changer,a DigitalSoundPackageand,inthe
nearfuture,a telematicsmodule.
Navigation
Thenavigationsystemisyour"intelligentpas-
senger".Withitshelp,youcanreachyourde-
sireddestinationquickly,safelyandconvenient-
lywithouteverhavingtostudycomplicated
roadmaps.Youcan,forexample,drivedirectly
tothenearestfillingstationinanunfamiliar
town. Thesystemusesthedatastoredonthe
navigationCDtocalculatetheroutetoyour
destination.Duringrouteguidance,a number
ofdifferentdisplaymodesprovideyouwithvis-
ualdrivingrecommendations,indicating,for
example,wheretoturnoff(directionanddis-
tanceuptotheturningpoint),informationon
yourestimatedtimeofarrival,theremaining
drivingtimeanddistancefromyourdestination.
Inaddition,theradionavigationsystemisable
todeliver"spoken"drivingrecommendations.
How does the navigation system work?
Theelectronicspeedometersignalandlocat-
ingsignalsreceivedfromGPS(GlobalPosition-
ingSystem)satellitesareusedtoidentifythe
currentlocationofyourvehicle.Thespeedom-
etersignalmeasuresthedistancealreadycov-
ered. Theinformationgatheredispassedonto
thenavigationsystemandcomparedwiththe
mapdatastoredinthesystemmemory.

Neveroperatesuchfunctionsasnavi-
gation unless thetrafficsituational-
lows. Donot adjust anyofthe basic
functionsoftheradionavigation sys-
temorenteryourdestination unless the
vehicleisstationary.
Thevariousvolumesettingsshould be select-
ed so thatacousticsignalsfrom the outside,
such as police or firebrigadesirens, canbe
heardeasily atall times.
Alwaysdevoteyourattention pri-
marilytodriving!Asa driveryou
bearfullresponsibilityforroad
safety.Neveroperatetheradionav-

Notes on operating the navigation
system
• The route calculated bythe navigation sys-
tem isa recommendation onhowto best
reach yourdestination.Trafficregulations
alwaystake priority over the recommenda-
tionsmade bythe navigationsystem. Tem-
porarychanges inthe traffic conditions,e.g.
due to roadworks or one-waystreetregula-
tions, arenot recorded onthe navigation
CDs.
•Street and placenames may change. Ii
possible that in rare cases the namesstore:
on theCDarenotthe same asthe names
now used.
•Changing the vehicletyresmaytemporarik
result in less-than-perfectperformance un-
til the navigationsystem is able to determine
the size ofthenew tyres.

tusfielddisplays the currentlyactiveaudio
source or memorybank forthe radio, the sta-
tionpresetkey, the CDnumber, the activefunc-
tions, e.g. SCAN,INFO and trafficinforma-
tionstandby.

systemwithhands-freeoperation(optional), the
voiceoutputwill be emitted bythe radio navi-
gationsystem.
When the telephone is activated, the audio
sourceswillswitch to mute.
PHONEwillappear inthe display.
After the call has beencompleted,audioplay-
backwillresume.
Note: Ifthe telephone is activatedwhen
theradionavigationsystem is switched
off, the systemwillswitch on. Thiswill
notactivate the screen. Youcan com-
pleteyourcall as usual.When youend
yourcall, the radionavigationsystem
willswitch off automatically.
