The3‐foldthermometerwithcrystalclockispurpose‐buildforthemountingincaravans,boatsand
interventionvehicles.
Pleasereadthemountinginstructionsandoperatingmanualincludingthesafety
regulationscompletelypriortostartingconnectionandstart‐up.
TheVOTRONICLCD‐Thermometer/ClockSisequippedwithalargeLCdisplay,whichensuresverygood
legibility,evenfromadistance.Theintegratedbackgroundilluminationguaranteesahigh‐contrast
representation,evenwithunfavourablelightingconditions.
Thethermometermeasuresnotonlytheroomtemperature,butalsotheoutsidetemperatureismeasuredby
thesuppliedexternaltemperaturesensor.Thethirdmeasuringinputcanbeusedforcontrolofrefrigerator
boxesorheatboxes.Thethirdtemperaturesensorisseparatelyavailableasaccessory.Themeasuringranges
cover‐30°Cto+70°Cwitharesolutionof0.1°C.
Theprecisecrystalclockshowsminutesandhours(24hoursformat),aflashingcolonforoperationalcheckand
theweekdayinthelowerrow.Theclockisequippedwithapowerreserve.Thus,itcontinuesworkingalsoata
short‐timevoltageloss.TheDCFmodule(orderNo.2062),whichisavailableasaccessory,allowsradio‐
controlledoperation.
Theunitdistinguishedbylowcurrentconsumption,anditissuitablefor12Vaswellas24Vboardmains
supply.
Forfire‐fightingvehiclesandinterventionvehiclesthesecondmeasuringinputcanbeusedforautomatic
activationoftheclockandofitsillumination.
AppearanceanddimensionsofthedisplayareperfectlyadaptedtotheVOTRONICmodularsystem.The
VOTRONICmodularsystemincludestankdisplayunits(freshandsewagewateraswellasfeces),theLCDseries
(solarcomputer,batterycomputer,ammeterandvoltmeter),aswellasswitchandfusepanels.
InstallationandConnection:
ChooseawellvisibleandeasilyaccessiblelocationinthelivingareaforinstallationoftheLCDthermometer/
clock.Directsunradiationshouldbeavoided,sincethebuilt‐intemperaturesensormightheatupstrongly,and
ameasurementoftheroomtemperaturebythemoduleisnotpossibleanylonger.
Therearcutoutopeningshouldbecoveredwithelectricallynonconductingmaterialtoensureefficient
protectionoftheelectronicsystemandfullutilizationofthestoragespace,whichmightbelocatedbehind.
Installationplacefortheexternalmeasuringsensor:
Iftheexternalsensorshallbeusedasoutsidetemperaturesensor,directsunradiationorheatradiationonthe
engineblock/enginecompartment/radiatorpreferablyshouldbeavoided.
Ifthemeasuringinput3isusedforcontroloftherefrigeratorboxorheatbox,theexternaltemperaturesensor
(requiredaccessory,orderNo.2001)shouldbeplacedataverageheightofthecontainer.
Terminals:
Connection+Batt.,‐Batt.
Thisconnectionisusedforthecurrentsupplytotheunit.The+Batt.cableistobeprotectedbymeansofa
fuse3A.Thecablecross‐sectionsshouldbe0.75mm²,atleast.
Sensorconnection
Thetemperaturesensorsareconnectedtotheconnections„–Sens.“and„+Sens1“,or„–Sens.“and„+Sens2“.
Thesensorsdonothaveadefinedpolarity.Forbetteridentification,werecommendtoconnecttheblackwire
to„–Sens.“andtheredwireto„+Sens.“.

Theresistor,whichhadbeenconnectedinthefactory,andwhichislocatedbetweentheterminals
„–Sens.“and„+Sens2“mustberemovedinanycase,sincetheconnection„+Sens2“isusedfor
automaticactivationoftheillumination.
Connectioncontrolinputillumination:
Thesecondmeasuringinputcanbeusedforautomaticactivationoftheclockandofitsillumination.
Connectthesuppliedresistor1kΩbetweentheterminals„‐Sens.“and„+Sens.2“,andconnectacontrol
voltagetotheterminal„+Sens.2“.
Inthiscase,connectionanduseofasecondtemperaturesensorisnotpossible.
Theuseofthesecondinputascontrolinputfortheilluminationmustbesetinthemenu.Theilluminationof
thedisplayisstillactivefor3minutesafterdisconnectionofthesignal.Evenwithoutcontrolsignal,thedisplay
canbeoperatedasusual.

Stand‐by:Duringstand‐bymodethedisplayisempty.
Displaywithandwithoutillumination:Assoonastheunitisoperated,
thedisplayilluminationwillbeswitched‐onandwillremainactivatedfor
3minutes.Ifthereisnooperationduringthistime,theilluminationwill
beswitched‐offautomatically.Thedisplaycontinuesshowingthesame
data.Thedisplayilluminationisreactivatedbypressinganykey.The
properfunctionofthekeywillbeeffectedbypressingthekeyasecond
time.
Adjustmentofthebrightness:
Adjustmentofthedisplaybrightnessiseffectedinswitched‐onconditionandbypressingandholdingthekeys
1and2formorethan3secondsuntilthedesiredbrightnessisachieved.
Displaysclockandthermometer:
Thedisplaysofclockandthermometercanbescrolledforwardsandbackwardsbymeansofthekeys1and2
asshownbelow.
Time:
Thecurrenttimeisdisplayed.Thecolonbetweenhoursandminutesis
flashingeverysecond.
Date:
Thedisplayofthedatecanberecognizedbytheseparatingpointbetween
dayandmonth.
Weekday:
Duringdisplayoftimeordate,amarkingarrowisshownattheloweredge
ofthedisplay.Thisarrowshowstheweekday.Fromthelefttotheright:
MondaytoSunday.
Temperatures:
Theinsideandoutside(sens.1)temperaturesaredisplayed,and,if
connected,thetemperatureoftherefrigerator(sens.2).
Themarkingsattheleftscreenedgeshowthecorrespondingsensor.
Ifsensor2hadnotbeenconnected,twominussigns(‐.‐°C)aredisplayed.
Ifthisinputhadbeendeactivatedinthemenu,itsdisplaywillbejumped.

Onrequest,theclockcanbeextendedbytheseparatelyavailable
DCFmodule(orderNo.2062)forautomaticradiocontrolbythe
timesignaltransmitterDCF77(Long‐waveTransmitter
MainflingennearFrankfurt/M).
Receptionisimproved,iftheDCFmoduleisinstalledintheupper
areaofthevehicle.Thus,aneffectiveradiusofapprox.1,000km
ispossible.
Usethedeliveredplug‐and‐gocableof2mlengthtoconnectthe
moduletotheclock.Thepolarityofthe3‐poleconnectorisat
discretion.
Amarkinginthedisplayneartheantennasymbolindicatesthe
conditionoftheDCFreception.
-Flashingmarking:Themodulereceivesthetime,the
synchronisationisinprogress.
-Lightingsymbol:ThesynchronisationoftheinternalclockwiththeDCFtimewassuccessful.
Afterarestart,itmighttakesomeminutesuntilthesynchronisationstarts.Thesynchronisationitselfmight
alsotakesomeminutes.
Afterasuccessfulsynchronisation,thenextsynchronisationwillbeeffectedatthebeginningofthefollowing
hour.
Incaseofbadreception,theinternalcrystal‐controlledclockwillcontinueworkinginanycaseensuringthat
thecorrecttimewillalwaysbedisplayed.

GeneralInformation:
Cleaning:
Werecommendtouseadampmicrofibreclothwithpurewateror,ifrequired,withwaterwithafewsoap.
Takecare,thatnoliquidflowsalongthedisplayscreenoralongtheedgesofthefrontpanel.
Neverusesolvents,aggressivehouseholdcleaners,andscratchingorabrasiveagentsorobjectsto
cleanthefrontpanelandparticularlythedisplayitself.

c) Batteryistotallydischarged,below7Volts:Rechargeimmediately!
d) Connectioncableisinterrupted,damaged,oritisnotinserted:Check!
„Hieroglyphs“onthedisplay:
a) Theinternalcheckprogramsoftheunithavefoundan(memory)error:
Withdrawthecableconnectorfor10seconds.Afterthat,aninitialstart‐upistobeexecutedasdescribed
above.
Display:Err:
a) Short‐circuitatoneofthetemperaturesensors.
b) Resistorbetweentheterminals„+Sens.2“and„‐Sens.“hadnotbeenremoved,andtheinputshallbeused
fortemperaturemeasurement,oritshallnotbeusedatall.Removetheresistor.
Display:‐.‐:
a) Temperaturesensorhadnotbeenconnectedorcablesareinterrupted.
NoDCFreception:
a) DCFmodulenotexisting.
b) ThesynchronisationwiththeDCFsignalcantakeupto5minutes.Ifthisfails,thenextattemptfor
synchronisationwillbeeffectedinminute59oftheinternalclock.
c) ConnectioncableoftheDCFmoduleisinterrupted,damaged,oritisnotinserted:Check!
d) DCFmodulehadnotbeenalignedhorizontally.Thebuilt‐inDCFantenna(longsideofthemodule)must
alwaysbealignedhorizontally.
e) Someunits(suchaspowerpacksormonitors)mightaffectthereceptionconsiderably,whentheyare
switched‐on.Therefore,thehighestpossibledistanceshouldbekept.

TheLCDThermometer/ClockShadbeendesignedaccordingtothevalidsafetyregulations.
Appropriateapplicationisrestrictedto:
1. Operationwith12V/24Vdirectvoltage(boardmainssupplynominalvoltage)infixedinstalled
systems.
2. Technicallyfaultlesscondition.
3. Installationinawell‐ventilatedroom,protectedfromrain,humidity,dust,aggressivebatterygas,as
wellasinanenvironmentbeingfreefromcondensationwater.
4. Witharearinsulatingcoverofthedisplayunit.
Neverusetheunitatlocationswheretheriskofgasordustexplosionexists!
Open‐airoperationoftheunitisnotallowed.
Cablesarealwaystobelaidinsuchawaythatdamageisexcluded.Observetofastenthemtightly.
Neverlay12V(24V)cablesand230Vmainssupplycablesintothesamecableconduit(emptyconduit).
Checklivecablesorleadsperiodicallyforinsulationfaults,pointsofbreakorloosenedconnections.
Occurringdefectsmustberemediedimmediately.
Theunitistobedisconnectedfromanyconnectionpriortoexecutionofelectricallyweldingorworkon
theelectricsystem.
Ifthenon‐commercialend‐userisnotabletorecognizethecharacteristicvaluesbeingvalidforaunitor
theregulationstobeobserved,aspecialistisalwaystobeconsulted.
Theuser/buyerisobligedtoobserveanyconstructionandsafetyregulations.
