Background
Satellitesusedfortelevisionsignalsare22,300miles(37,000km)abovetheearth’sequator.
ThepurposeoftheVuQubeistoacquirethesignaltravelingthatgreatdistanceandtransmit
thesignaltoyourdigitalreceiverinyourvehiclesoyoucanwatchTVanywhereyoupark.
Satellitetelevision,likeothercommunicationsrelayedbysatellite,startswithatransmitting
antennalocatedatanuplinkfacilityonEarth.Theuplinkdishispointedtowardaspecific
satelliteandtheuplinkedsignalsaretransmitted.Thesignaltransmittedtothesatelliteis
withinaspecificfrequencyrangeandisreceivedbyoneofthetransponderstunedtothat
frequencyrangeaboardthatsatellite.ThetransponderthentransmitsthesignalsbacktoEarth
butatadifferentfrequencyband(toavoidinterferencewiththeuplinksignal).Thelegofthe
signalpathfromthesatellitetothereceivingEarthstationiscalledthedownlink.
Thedownlinkedsatellitesignal,quiteweakaftertravelingthegreatdistanceisreceivedbythe
VuQubeantenna,whichreflectstheweaksignaltoa focalpointthatgetstransferredtoa
feedhorn. Thereceivingantennamusthaveaclearview,withoutobstruction,ofthe
southernskytomaximizesignalacquired.Thissignalisthenamplifiedandconvertedby
theLNBf(Lownoiseblockconverterfeed)toasignalthatissentviaacoaxialcabletothe
receiver.OncethesignalistransmittedfromtheVuQubetoyourreceiver,youcanenjoyallof
yourprogramminginyourvehiclejustlikeathome!

OverviewofInstallation
· TheVuQubeisdesignedtobemountedtoavehicle(Figure1).
· ItisrecommendedtoinstalltheVuQubewithaminimumof4”ofthetopcoverabove
thehighestpointofthecaborairshield(Figure1)andawayfrominterferingobjectslike
smokestacks.
· Thepowerharnessneedstobeconnectedtoa12voltpowersource.
· The phonestyle connector needs to enter the cab so it can be plugged into the Vu
QubeController.
· ThecoaxialcableneedstoentertheCabtobeconnectedtothesatellitereceiver.

Mountingbracketandselectinglocationtorunwiring
1)SelectandmarkbothareaonbackofCabtomountthebracketANDlocationtorun
coaxialfromtheVuQubetotheinsideiftheCab.
· Be sure at least 4” of Vu Qube is above the highest part of the roof so that adequate
signal can be received by the antenna. The clearance of the Vu Qube is important
because the antenna requires a direct line of site to the satellite in the southern sky to
acquireasignal.
· TheVuQuberequiresa16”diameterofspacetobemounted.
· Makesureyouallowenoughspaceforthewiringsothatthattheco
axialcabledoesnothaveasharpbend.
· It is best to select a position on the rear of the cab free from
obstruction. Obstructions like smoke stacks, brackets, and airconditioning units may
interferewithsatellitesignalorpreventthesatellitesignalfromreachingtheVuQube.
2)Drillholesformountingbracketwithpropersizedependingonfastenersused.
3)Mountbrackettocabusingfasteners.
4)Sealholeswithasealantcompatiblewithcab,faring,orairshieldmaterial,depending
onwhereVuQubeismounted.
5)Drillholetopasstheharnessesinsidethevehicle.
NOTE: If you are unable to install the Vu Qube 4” above the cab due toheight restriction,
installwiththemaximumavailableclearance.WithlessoftheVuQubetopcoverabovethe
Cab, there may be difficultly acquiring satellite signal in the Northeastern US (Maine, New
Hampshire,VermontandMassachusetts).
NOTE:InstructionsformountingtheVuQubeisillustratedusingMountingBracketKitpart
number 31100. This Mounting Bracket Kit and others weredesigned specifically to mount
the Vu Qube tothe back of a truck cab. Please contactWallace Technologies, LLC (866
8022228)regardingotherbracketoptions.
Note: Theinstallerisresponsiblefordeterminingthemostappropriatefastenertosecure
thebrackettothecab.DependingontheCabmaterial,fastenerssuchaslagscrews,well
nuts,sheetmetalscrews,toggleboltsandTanchorsmaybeused,andshouldalwaysbe
usedincombinationwithcompatiblesealanttoenvironmentallysealtheholesafter
installation.

1) PlaceVuQubeonbracket
· WireconnectionsfromtheVuQube(Figure2)shouldbepositionedtowardtheCab
(frontofthevehicle)andtosidewhereholeisdrilledtorunwiresinsidethecab.

2) SecureVuQubetobracketbyfasteningwithNutsprovided. Besuretotightennuts
adequatelytoensureVuQubeissecurelyinplace.
Wiring
1) Connect20’coaxialtoVuQube.
2) Pass20’coaxialcablethroughholepreviouslydrilled.
3) ConnectcoaxialcablefromVuQubetoSATELLITEINportonSatelliteReceiver.
4) MakesureSatelliteReceiverisconnectedtoTVpermanufacturesinstructions.

Troubleshooting

Maintenance
The Vu Qubehas beendesignedto be maintenance and trouble free. For optimum signal
strength,keepthecovercleanfromdirt,bugs,andotherdebris.Periodicwashingofthetop
coverwithmildsoapandwaterisrecommended.
Ifyouplanonstoringyourvehicleforlongperiodsoftime,itisrecommendedthatthesystem
be put through a search procedure on a quarterly basis to keep all moving parts in good
workingorder.

LimitedWarranty
EveryVuQubeisthoroughlyinspectedandtestedbeforeleavingthefactoryandiscovered

Thiswarrantydoesnotcoverinstallationandexternalwiringorrefurbishedunits.
