Quick Start Guide
V5000 G2 - Websense Web Security
Bezel (faceplate)
Use a rack tray to rack the appliance (not included).
1. Obtain a rack tray and install into desired server rack.
2. Place appliance on tray
and secure to server rack
using mounting screws on
front of appliance.

Connect a keyboard, monitor and mouse to appliance, either directly or through a KVM (keyboard/
video/mouse) switch.
1. Plug power cable into an appropriate power source.
2. Press power button on front of appliance (a).
3. Check the following indicators:
a) Power button is illuminated (front).
b) System status indicator is solid blue (front).
c) LEDs for connected interface (C) are illuminated (back).
1. Insert right tab into slot on appliance.
2. Press left tab in firmly until bezel snaps into place.
3. Appliance can be locked using keys included with bezel.

Contact Websense Technical Support if any indicators are not illuminated correctly.

Connect the appliance C port to span port on switch or router on your network.
Before installing Websense software on the appliance, please
ensure the following:
• Database management system is installed and running on
another server.
• Integration product (if applicable) is installed.
• IP address for C interface has been assigned. Use static IP
addressing.

Installation Steps
Fresh Installation (new or v6.x sites)
1. Complete the Pre-Install Checklist on the back of this poster.
2. Log onto the Websense appliance with domain or local administrator privileges.
Default password: W3bs3ns3345
3. Insert the Websense Installation Disk into the appliance.
4. If the installation does not start automatically, go to Start > Run and choose Setup.exe.
5. Accept the Websense Subscription Agreement, and then choose Filtering and Management.
6. Enter your password for the TRITON management console. User name is WebsenseAdministrator.
7. Follow screen prompts to complete the installation.
8. To install Log Server (for reporting), insert the Websense Installation Disk into a separate Windows machine,
and run the Websense installer again. Choose the Custom path and install only Log Server.
9. Navigate to “Initial Setup” in the Web Security Installation Guide at www.websense.com/library.
Upgrade Installation (v7.x sites)
1. Note that v7.5 is an English-only version.
2. Back up essential Websense files from the server where Websense software is installed:
• Stop Websense services on the machine.
• Windows: Open a command window and navigate to the Websense bin directory
(C:\Program Files\Websense\bin\ by default).
• Run the backup utility: wsbackup -b -d <directory>
<directory> is the path where the backup file will be stored.
• Restart Websense services.
• Additional details are provided in the Solution Center article titled: How do I back up my Websense
filtering configuration?
3. Complete the Pre-Install Checklist on the back of this poster.
4. Log onto the Websense appliance with domain or local administrator privileges.
