10 Description of device
1. Description of device
1.1 Intended purpose
SOMNObutler 2 is a storage system to enable the components and accessories of a
WEINMANN polysomnography system required by the patient to be stored and/or
transported. In addition to the bracket for the WEINMANN diagnosis device, the storage
system also provides brackets and storage space for the Transferbox 2, the USB/PC galvanic
isolation module, master cable, straps, pulsoximetry sensors and electrodes, for example.
The storage system allows the polysomnography system to be used in sleep laboratories in
an organized way.
SOMNObutler 2 is available in two models:
• SOMNObutler 2 stationary
• SOMNObutler 2 mobile
1.2 Description of function
The components and accessories of the polysomnography system used by the patient are
hung from the brackets of the storage system provided and connected to one another by
cables. In the sleep laboratory, the diagnosis device is removed from its bracket and put on
the patient together with the other components required for the patient. After the end of
measurement, the components required for the patient are hung or stored back in the
storage system. Depending on the sphere of use, the storage system can be used on either
a stationary or mobile basis.
• The SOMNObutler 2 stationary storage system has a shelf for accessories
and can be hung in the BASE STATION 3 NG wall mounting for the
SOMNObutler 2.
• The SOMNObutler 2 mobile storage system can be carried to the point
of use by the handle and attached to a hospital bed or standard hospital
rail by the hangers. This model has a protective bag and storage space
for accessories and consumables.

Safety instructions 11
2. Safety instructions
Read these instructions for use carefully. They form part of the storage system and must be
available at all times. Only use the storage system for the purpose described (see “1.1
Intended purpose” on page 10).
For your own safety and the safety of your patients and in accordance with the
requirements of Directive 93/42/EEC, please note the following.
2.1 Storage system
Caution!
• Note that the storage system may not be loaded with an additional weight, e.g.
be leant on by a person, even once it is fixed in position. The storage system may
fall down and injure people or damage the device.
• Protect the devices and cables used on the storage system from wet. On the
SOMNObutler 2 mobile, use the protective bag for this.
•Before working with the storage system, you must have understood how to use it.
• To avoid infection or bacterial contamination, follow the section entitled “7.
Hygiene treatment” on page 30.
2.2 Wall mounting
Warning!
• The SOMNObutler 2 storage system may only be hung in the BASE STATION 3 NG
wall mounting for the SOMNObutler 2. The weight and dimensions of the storage
system are exactly matched to the wall mounting, so use of other storage systems
is not permitted.
• Hanging third-party products or adapters from other manufacturers is not
permitted, as this does not comply with the use in accordance with the purpose
of this wall mounting.

2.3 Accessories/replacement parts
Caution!
If third-party articles are used, functional failures and bioincompatibility may occur.
Please note that in these cases, any claim under warranty and liability will be
invalidated if neither the accessories nor genuine replacement parts recommended
in the instructions for use are used.
2.4 Maintenance
Caution!
Have servicing and maintenance work carried out only by the manufacturer,
WEINMANN or by trained staff.
