Work Area Safety

mableliquids,gasesordust.AirCompressormotorsproducesparkswhichmayignitethedustor
fumes.
3. KeepchildrenandbystandersawayfromanoperatingAirCompressor.
Electrical Safety
1. AirCompressorplugsmustmatchtheoutlet.Nevermodifythepluginanyway.Donotuseany
adapterplugswithgroundedAirCompressors.Standardplugsandmatchingoutletswillreduce
theriskofelectricshock.
2. DonotexposeyourAirCompressortorainorwetconditions.WaterenteringyourAirCompres-
sorwillincreasetheriskofelectricshock.
3. Donotabusethecord.NeverusethecordforunpluggingyourAirCompressor.Keepthecord
awayfromheat,oil,sharpedgesormovingparts.Damagedorentangledcordsincreasetherisk
ofelectricshock.
Personal Safety
1. Stayalert,watchwhatyouaredoingandusecommonsensewhenoperatingyourAirCompres-
sor.DonotuseyourAirCompressorwhileyouaretiredorundertheinuenceofdrugs,alcohol
ormedication.AmomentofinattentivenesswhileoperatingyourAirCompressormayresultin
seriouspersonalinjury.
2. Useprotectivesafetyequipment.AlwayswearANSI-approvedeyeprotectionduringsetupand
use.
3. Preventunintentionalstarting.EnsuretheswitchisintheOFFpositionbeforeconnectingto
powersourceormovingyourAirCompressor.
Air Compressor Use and Care
1. DonotuseyourAirCompressoriftheswitchdoesnotturnONandOFF.AnAirCompressorthat
cannotbecontrolledwiththeswitchisdangerousandmustberepaired.
2. Disconnecttheplugfromthepowersourcebeforemakinganyadjustments,changingaccessories,
orstoringyourAirCompressor.ThispreventivesafetymeasurereducetheriskofstartingyourAir
Compressoraccidentally.

3. StoreyourAirCompressoroutofthereachofchildrenanddonotallowpeopleunfamiliarwithyour
AirCompressorortheseinstructionstooperateit.AnAirCompressorisdangerousinthehandsof
untrainedusers.
4. MaintainyourAirCompressor.KeepyourAirCompressorcleanformaximumperformance.Fol-
lowtheinstructionsforlubricatingandchangingaccessories.KeepyourAirCompressordry,clean
andfreefromoilandgrease.Checkformisalignmentorbindingofmovingparts,breakageofparts
andanyotherconditionthatmayaffectyourAirCompressor'soperation.Ifdamaged,haveyourAir
Compressorrepairedprofessionallybeforeuse.Manyaccidentsarecausedbyapoorlymaintained
AirCompressor.
5. UseyourAirCompressorinaccordancewiththeseinstructions,takingintoaccounttheworking
conditionsandtheworktobeperformed.UseofyourAirCompressorforoperationsdifferentfrom
thoseintendedcouldresultinahazardoussituation.

HaveyourAirCompressorservicedbyaqualiedprofessionalrepairpersonusingonlyidentical
replacementparts.ThiswillensurethatthesafetyofyourAirCompressorismaintained.

Grounding Instructions
1. INTHEEVENTOFAMALFUNCTIONORBREAKDOWN,groundingprovidesthepathofleast
resistanceforelectriccurrentandreducestheriskofelectricshock.Thistoolisequippedwithan
electriccordthathasanequipmentgroundingconductorandagroundingplug.TheplugMUSTbe
pluggedintoamatchingoutletthatisproperlyinstalledandgroundedinaccordancewithALLlocal
codesandordinances.
2. DONOTMODIFYTHEPLUGPROVIDED.Ifitwillnotttheoutlet,havetheproperoutletinstalled
byanelectrician.
3. IMPROPERCONNECTIONoftheequipmentgroundingconductorcanresultinelectricshock.The
conductorwiththegreeninsulation(withorwithoutyellowstripes)istheequipmentgroundingcon-
ductor.Ifrepairorreplacementoftheelectriccordorplugisnecessary,DONOTconnecttheequip-
mentgroundingconductortoaliveterminal.CHECKwithalicensedelectricianorservicepersonnel
ifyoudonotcompletelyunderstandthegroundinginstructions,orifyouarenotsureifthetoolis
properlygrounded.

4. USEONLYTHREEWIREEXTENSIONCORDSwithhave3-prongplugsand3-prongoutletsthat
acceptthetool’splug.Repairorreplacedamagedorworncordsimmediately.
5. CAUTION:Inallcases,makecertaintheoutletisproperlygrounded.Ifyouarenotsureifitis,have
alicensedelectricianchecktheoutlet.
WARNING:Thistoolisforindooruseonly.Donotexposetorainoruseindamplocations.
1. Toolswiththreewiregroundingplugs(Fig.1,A)areintendedforuseonacircuitthathasanoutlet
thatlooksliketheoneillustrated(Fig.1,B).
2. Atemporaryadapter(Fig.1,B&C)maybeusedtoconnectthisplugtoa2-polereceptacle
(Fig.1,B)ifaproperlygroundedoutletisnotavailable.
3. Thetemporaryadaptershouldbeusedonlyuntilaproperlygroundedoutletcanbeinstalledbya
qualiedelectrician.
4. Thegreencoloredrigidear,lug,etc.extendingfromtheadaptermustbeconnectedtoa
permanentgroundsuchasaproperlygroundedoutletbox(Fig.1,D).

Extension Cord Guidelines
Makesureyourextensioncordisingoodcondition.Whenusinganextensioncord,besuretouseone
heavyenoughtocarrythecurrentyourproductwilldraw.Anundersizedcordwillcauseadropinline
voltageresultinginlossofpowerandoverheating.Thetablebelowshowsthecorrectsizetobeused
accordingtocordlengthandnameplateampererating.Ifindoubt,usethenextheaviergauge.The
smallerthegaugenumber,theheavierthecord.
1. Besureyourextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodcondition.Alwaysreplaceadamaged
extensioncordorhaveitrepairedbyaqualiedpersonbeforeusingit.
2. Protectyourextensioncordsfromsharpobjects,excessiveheatanddamporwetareas.
3. Useaseparateelectricalcircuitforyourtools.Thiscircuitmustnotbelessthana#12wireand
shouldbeprotectedwitha20Amptimedelayedfuse.
4. Beforeconnectingthemotortothepowerline,makesuretheswitchisintheOFFpositionandthe
electriccurrentisratedthesameasthecurrentstampedonthemotornameplate.Runningata
lowervoltagewilldamagethemotor.
WARNING: Thistoolmustbegroundedwhileinusetoprotecttheoperatorfromelectrical
shock.

ThisAirCompressorisshippedwithaplasticplugintheair
lterhole.Beforeoperatingthisunit,removetheplugand

BEFORE OPERATING YOUR NEW AIR COMPRESSORcompletethefollowingsteps.
1. Checkthatallnutsandboltsaresecure.
2. MakesuretheoilhasbeenproperlyaddedtoyourAirCompressor.
3. PlaceyourAirCompressoronarm,levelsurfaceinaclean,dry,wellventilatedarea.
4. YourAirCompressorshouldbelocated12to18inchesfromwallsoranyotherobstructionwhich
wouldinterferewithairow.YourAirCompressorshouldbelocatedinatemperaturecontrolledarea
between32°and95°F.
5. YourAirCompressorisdesignedwithheatdissipationnswhichallowforpropercooling.Keepthe
nsandallotherpartscleanfromdustordirt..AcleanAirCompressorrunscoolerandprovides
longerservice.
6. Donotplacerags,containersorothermaterialontopofyourAirCompressor.

Power Source Connection
YourAirCompressorisdesignedtooperateonaproperlygrounded120volt,60HZ,singlephase,
alternatingcurrent(AC)powersourcewithafused20Amptimedelayedfuseorcircuitbreaker.Itis
recommendedthataqualiedelectricianverifytheACTUALVOLTAGEatthereceptacleintowhich
theunitwillbepluggedandconrmthatthereceptacleisproperlyfusedandgrounded.Theuseofthe
propercircuitsizecaneliminatenuisancecircuitbreakertrippingwhileoperatingyourAirCompressor.

Initial Start-Up Procedures
1. OpentheAirTankDrainValvetopermitairtoescape,preventingairpressurebuildupintheAir
Tank.
2. Runthecompressorforaminimumof20minutesinthis“no-load”positiontolubricatethepiston.
3. CloseAirTankDrainValve.Yourcompressorisreadyforuse.
4. SeepneumatictoolinstructionsforinstructionsonhowtoconnectatooltoyourAirCompressor.
DependingontheCFMdrawofthetoolsbeingoperated,yournewAirCompressorcanbeusedforop-
eratingpaintsprayers,airtools,greaseguns,airbrushes,caulkingguns,abrasiveblasters,tire&plastic
toyination,sprayingweedkillerandinsecticides,etc.ProperadjustmentoftheAirPressureRegulator
isnecessaryforalloftheseoperations.Refertotheairpressurespecicationsprovidedwiththetool
youareusing.
General Overview
1. Tocompressair,thepistonmovesupanddowninthecylinder.Onthedownstrokeairisdrawn
inthroughthevalveinlet.Thedischargevalveremainsclosed.Ontheupstrokeofthepistonairis
compressed.
2. Theinletvalveclosesandairisforcedoutthroughthedischargevalve,throughtheCheckValve,
andintotheAirTank.
3. WorkingairisnotavailableuntiltheAirCompressorhasraisedthetankpressureabovethatre-
quiredattheairserviceconnection.
4. Theairinletlteropeningsmustbekeptclearofobstructions,whichcouldreduceairdeliveryofthe
compressor.
Air Pressure Adjustment
1. YourAirCompressorissuppliedwithanAirPressureRegulator.ThisRegulatoradjuststheairpres-
sure.
2. Toincreaseairpressure,turntheAirRegulatorclockwise.

3. Todecreaseairpressure,turntheAirRegulatorcounterclockwise.
4. TheAirRegulatorgaugewillshowthecurrentpressureselected.
Daily (or before each use)
1. Checkoillevel.
2. Checkforanyunusualnoiseorvibration.
3. Besureallnutsandboltsaretight.
Weekly
1. CleanbreatherholeonOilBreatherCap.
2. DrainwaterfromtheAirTankthroughtheDrainValve.
3. KeepAirFiltercleanatalltimes.DonotoperatetheAirCompressorwiththeairlterremoved.
4. AdirtyAirFilterwillnotallowyourAirCompressortooperateatfullcapacity.Beforeyouuseyour
AirCompressor,checktheAirFiltertobesureitisclean.Ifitisdirtyreplacethelterelement.
Monthly
Inspecttheairsystemforleaksbyapplyingsoapywatertoalljoints.Tightenthesejointsifleaksare
discovered.
6 Months (or after 250 hours of operation - whichever comes rst)
ChangeAirCompressorOil.
Note: ChangetheoilmoreoftenifyourAirCompressorisusednearpaintsprayingoperationsor
industyenvironments.
Checking the Air Compressor Oil
1. PlaceyourAirCompressoronalevelsurface.TheoillevelshouldbeatthereddotontheOilSight
Glass.
2. Ifoillevelislow,removeOilBreatherCapandaddenoughoiltobringtheoilleveltothereddoton
theOilSightGlass.

Changing the Air Compressor Oil
Note: ThiscompressorusesonlySAE5W-30motoroil.
1. RemovetheOilSightGlassbyturningcounterclockwisewithwrench.
Note: OilwillbegintodrainastheOilSightGlassisloosened.Makesureafunnelandoilpanare
inplaceBEFORElooseningtheOilSightGlass.
2. OncetheOilSightGlassisremoved,tiltyourAirCompressorforwardstoallowalltheoilto
drainoutoftheCrankcase.
3. Oncetheoilisdrained,replacetheOilSightGlassandsecurelytighteninplacewithawrench.
BecarefulnottoovertightentheOilSightGlass,asthiscoulddamagetherubberseal.
4. PlaceyourAirCompressoronlevelsurface.
5. RemovetheOilBreatherCap.
6. Slowlypourtheoilintotheoilllhole,untiltheoillevelrisestothecenterofthereddotonthe
OilSightGlass.
7. InstalltheOilBreatherCapintotheoilllhole.
8. AlwaysinspectAirCompressorbeforeuse,andmakesureitisingoodworkingcondition.Use
compressedairtocleanthemachinewherepossible.
9. Checkthepowercabletomakesureitisintactandfreefromcracks,barewiresetc.
10.Avoidusingsolventswhencleaningplasticparts,mostplasticsaresusceptibletodamagefrom
thevarioustypesofcommercialsolvents.
