WD ReadyView™ User Manual 5
1 Preface
This manual describes how to use your NVR directly (using the HDMI or VGA direct-connect
interface) or on the Web interface using a browser. Note that using either direct-connect interface
(HDMI or VGA) requires connecting a USB mouse to the NVR (keyboard not supported).
In this manual, the terms "IP camera" and "IPC" refer to the same thing: a network camera, which
requires a connection to the network.
IMPORTANT: This manual was designed for advanced users.
Items in this manual are intended for self-serve functions and are
NOT covered by Western Digital Tech Support.
NOTE: WD ReadyView is designed and optimized for mobile
app use. The mobile app is the preferred interface.

WD ReadyView™ User Manual 6
2 Part I: Direct Operations
An NVR supports three types of operations: mobile operations, direct operations and web-based
operations. Direct operations require connecting a monitor and a USB mouse to the NVR
(keyboard not supported); such equipment is not included. The NVR has an embedded web server
and allows web-based operations. To do this, you need a PC that has a network connection to the
NVR and a web browser. Navigate to the NVR's IP address and login to the Web interface to start
using the system.
2.1 Before You Begin
Please be aware that the parameters that are grayed out on the system User Interface (UI) cannot
be modified. The parameters and values displayed may vary by device model, and the figures
shown in this manual are for illustration purposes only.
2.1.1 Login
Use the default username admin and password Readyview123 for your first login. The password can
be changed during the mobile app onboarding process.
NOTE: The first screen that appears is the installation wizard. Using the wizard screen is not
required. Close this window by clicking the X in the upper right-hand corner.
1. Right-click anywhere in the window and then click Menu. The login dialog box is displayed.
2. Enter your password, then click Login.
IMPORTANT: The default password is intended for the first login only and should be changed to
a strong one, containing at least eight characters (including uppercase and lowercase letters, digits,
and symbols) to ensure security.
NOTE: WD ReadyView cameras can be connected to other, ONVIF-compliant security systems.
To use the cameras with a non-WD, ONVIF-conformant system or NVR, follow the steps below.
1. Download and install the WDRVTool on a Windows PC (not supported on macOS) (link:
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28866) or go to support.wdc.com
and search “28866”.
2. All settings on your camera applicable to your system must be changed while connected
through a PoE switch before connecting the camera to a non-WD, ONVIF-conformant NVR.
Note that your PoE switch needs to be connected to your router. Connect the WD ReadyView
camera to your PoE switch.
3. Open the WDRVTool from your PC or laptop. If no IP address appears, click Refresh in the
upper left corner.

2.4.1 Channel Management
This chapter describes how to add and manage IP cameras connected to the NVR. Before you start,
make sure the IP cameras are connected to your NVR via the network.
2.4.1.1 Adding an IP Camera
This section lists multiple ways to add an IP camera. Some options are only applicable to certain
NVR models; choose one as appropriate.
Option 1
1. Click Camera > Camera > Camera. The system automatically searches for IP cameras and lists
any that are discovered.
NOTE: The icon (under Status) indicates an IP camera has been added successfully; click
to view live video from the IP camera. The icon indicates an IP camera is offline; rest the
mouse pointer on the for more information. The idle bandwidth is displayed to indicate the
current bandwidth available for receiving streams. For more information, see Network
Statistics.
2. (Optional) To search a specified network segment, click Search and then set the address
range.
3. Click to add the IP camera. You may also:
oClick One-click Add to add all the discovered IP cameras allowed (depending on channels
supported by the NVR).
oClick Custom Add. In the window displayed, enter the IP address and complete other
settings, then click Add. Click Search to add discovered cameras in the list
Option 2
Note that this option is not applicable to NVRs with PoE ports or switching ports.

Channel Configuration

1. Click .
2. Select the desired IP camera, then click Add.
Option 3
This option is only applicable to NVRs with PoE ports or switching ports. Connect an IP camera to a
PoE port (or a switching port) with a network cable. The connected camera will be added to the
NVR automatically. Check the status under Camera > Camera > Camera. The icon indicates live
video from the camera is available. Click the icon to view live video.
If the camera is connected via a network switch, click under Edit. In the window displayed, set
the Add Mode to Manual, then complete the settings.
NOTE: The icon appears under Status if the power output from a PoE port is below (or
above) the rated power for the connected camera.
Option 4
Use this option only when the IP camera supports the standard RTSP, and all you need from the IP
camera is live view and playback. IP cameras added in this way cannot be configured from the NVR.
1. Click Camera > Camera.
2. Click Custom Add.
3. Click to select a camera in the list, select Custom from the Protocol drop-down list, and then
click Protocol.
4. In the Protocol window, name the protocol, enter the RTSP port number, select a transmission

NOTE: Contact the camera manufacturer for resource paths.
5. Edit settings in the Add/Modify window as needed, including the IP address, username and
password, then click Add. Check the status in the camera list.
2.4.1.2 Managing an IP Camera
Manage IP cameras under Camera > Camera > Camera.
·

·
Click the icon to delete an IP camera (or select multiple IP cameras), then click Delete.
Channels corresponding to PoE ports or switching ports cannot be deleted.
·
Click the icon to change the IP address of an IP camera and the default gateway.
2.4.1.3 Sort Cameras
Sort cameras to display them in the desired order.
NOTE: This function is not available on NVRs with PoE ports or switching ports. This section
describes how to sort cameras on an NVR with more than 32 channels. For NVRs with 32 channels or
less, you can sort cameras by dragging the icons with the mouse.
For example, to switch channel 1 with channel 4, click Sort Camera, and then follow the steps below:

Channel Configuration
WD ReadyView™ User Manual 20
1. In the left list, select the check box for channel 1, then click the button. Channel 1 now
appears in the right list. Perform the same operations to channel 4.
2. In the right list, select channel 4 and then click . Now channel 4 appears on the previous
line of channel 1 in the list. Perform the same operations to channel 1, so that channel 1 appears
