IMPORTANT WARNINGS & SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS carefully and become familiar with the features and functions of
these products before operating them.
2. RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS for future reference.
3. COMPLY WITH ALL WARNINGS – All warnings and instructions for this product should be
adhered to.
4. USE WITH MIXERS & AMPLIFIERS – In order to avoid damage to drivers and other
equipment, it is advisable to establish and follow a routine for powering up and powering down
a sound system. With all system components connected, turn on source equipment (mixers,
signal processors, record and playback units, etc.) BEFORE powering up ampliers. Transient
voltages from powering up source equipment can damage loudspeakers if ampliers are already
turned on. Make sure that amplier volumes are set to their minimum settings and power up any
system ampliers LAST. It is recommended that all system components be allowed to stabilize
for several seconds before any source signals are introduced or level setting adjustments are
made. Similarly, when shutting systems down, turn all ampliers off rst, before powering down
any other system components.
5. CABLES – Do not use shielded line/instrument or microphone cables for connection between
ampliers and speakers. Use only approved speaker cables with proper connectors.
6. CAUTION – Professional sound systems are capable of generating very high sound pressure
levels. Use care with placement and operation to avoid exposure to excessive volume levels.
Permanent hearing damage can result when operated to extreme levels.
7. SERVICE – There are no user serviceable parts inside this product. Users should not attempt to
service this product. Warranty nullication could result if this is attempted.

INTRODUCTION
The Wharfedale WPL-26 signal switch is the result of many years of experience in the use, design
and manufacture of professional audio products. We take great pride in engineering and building
every Wharfedale product and wish to thank you for entrusting us with your sound.
Please take a few minutes to read this manual completely in order to ensure that you get the most
out of your WPL-26.
WPL-26 OVERVIEW:
The WPL-26 Signal switch is designed to make your speaker demonstration or monitor comparison
easy and effective. It is designed to provide quiet and fast switching from source signal to the line
level outputs.
ABOUT THE WPL-26
The WPL-26 is a high quality line level router designed to quickly and reliably direct a choice of
source material to a specied line level location. Designed for use in a variety of environments from
showroom to studio the WPL-26 is extremely simple to setup and use.
A choice of two stereo inputs can be routed to any of the 6 stereo outputs. A front panel switch can
be used to route a mono signal (Left channel only) to any of the stereo outputs, in addition there is
a front panel MUTE switch.

CONNECTIONS/ WIRING
Using the WPL-26 is easy. You simply plug in your signal cables from your mixer, CD/DVD/MP3
player, iPod or other source to the Channel (A or B) inputs and your line level signal cables to each
amplier via outputs 1 – 6.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED AN AMPLIFIER FOR EACH OUTPUT OF THE WPL-26 WHEN
USING PASSIVE SPEAKERS, ACTIVE SPEAKERS CAN BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE
WPL-26. DO NOT CONNECT PASSIVE LOUDSPEAKERS DIRECTLY TO THE WPL-26, THE
IMPEDANCE MISMATCH CAN DESTROY THE OUTPUT STAGE OF THE WPL-26. THIS WILL
INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY AND REQUIRE REPAIR TO THE UNIT.
To create a fair and useful comparison between sets of speakers it is important to apply correct gain
structure. Please use the procedure below to ensure that all ampliers have equal output levels.
Make sure that you are using suitable cables as an unbalanced cable will drop the signal level by
6dB when compared to a balanced cable.
SETUP
0Start with all volume and gain controls set to minimum
0Start your source material
0Raise the volume of your sources to an optimum level
0If using two sources balance the output levels of each unit
0 Raise the output levels of each amplier so that they are equal in output
Using a test tone (For example a 1000Hz sine wave) can help you to set the levels correctly as the
human ear nds it easier to evaluate the volume of a test tone compared to musical material.
Take extra care when setting the levels of ampliers and speakers with different impedances, as
lower impedance speakers can be much louder when used with similar amplier settings.
IR REMOTE SETUP
In many showroom environments the electronics rack may be out of the line of sight of the
demonstration area, creating a situation where it can be problematic to change the speaker
selection. The WPL-26 comes complete with a wireless IR remote control and a receiver with a 6m
cable.
Place the IR receiver in the demonstration area, ideally near to the speakers that will be used in the
demonstration, and route the cable to the input on the back of the WPL-26. With this simple setup
you no longer have to leave the demonstration area to switch to a different set of speakers.
