Before using
your Washer
This washer is different from the
ones you may have used before. It is
important that you read this and the
Laundry Guide carefully to get the best
results. You are personally responsi-
ble for making sure that Your
washer...
l Is installed by a qualified installer.
l Is properly installed and leveled on a
floor that can support the weight.
l Isconnected to the right kind of outlet,
electric supply, water supply and drain..
l Is properly electrically grounded.’
l Is used only for jobs normally
expected of home automatic washers.
l Is properly maintained.
l Is protected from the weather.
l Is not run by children or anyone
unable to operate it properly
Remove the Consumer Buy
Guide label. It will be easier to remove
before the washer is used.
You may want to wipe out the
basket with a damp cloth before using
to remove dust from storing or shipping.

For best washing results and
energy savings, sort the laundry
carefully.
1. Sort the Laundry into loads.
l Group the laundry info loads that
can be washed and dried together.
See the Laundry Guide for informa-
tion and samples of typical loads.
l Try to mix large and small items for
best movement in the washer.
2. Measure Detergent; Add to
Washer Basket.
l See detergent information on page
6 and in Section IV of the Laundry
Guide.
3. load the Washer.
l Load without packing so items can
move freely for best cleaning and
least wrinkling.
l Spread the load evenly. [Don’t put
all the towels on one side and a few
wash cloths on the other.) An unbal-
anced load can cause the washer tc
shake during spinning.
Avoid Damaging Laundry
Carefully follow package direc-
tions when using detergents,
bleaches, softeners and other
laundry aids. For more informa-
tion, see pages 16-22 in your
“Laundry Guide.”

Start your washer after you put in
detergent, the load, and any other
laundry aids according to Information
on page 3
I. Set the TEMPERATURE SELECTOR.
l Match the wash water temperature to
the type of fabrics and SOIISbeing
washed. All rinses are cold.
IMPORTANT: Use WARM WATER
with the PERMANENT PRESS or
SHORT cycle. For heavily soiled
permanent press or knits, pre-
wash or pre-soak before washing
in warm water.
2. Select a Cycle and Start the
Washer.
l Push the Cycle Control Knob In and
turn it to the right [clockwise)
l Stop when the pointer is on the num-
ber of minutes you want in the cycle you
want.
l InstructIons for which cycles to use for
each fabric type are under the lid.
l To start the washer, pull the Cycle
Control Knob out When the cycle IS
over, the washer will stop.
l To stop the washer at any time
during a cycle, push the Control
Knob in. Pull it out to restart the washer.
l To change a setting, push the Con-
trol Knob in to stop the washer. Then
turn the Control Knob to the right (clock-
wise) to the setting you want Pull the
knob out to start the washer

3. To Use Less Wash Water.
When you have only a few items
to wash, you may want to use less water
to help save energy. Setting the washer
to fiii with less water o/so sets it for CJ
shorter ogitotion time
l The washer will fill to its highest level
(about 14.8 gallons or 56 0 liters) when
the Control Knob points to a “FILL”bar
l To use less water, push the Control
Knob in and turn to the right (clockwrse)
to a “FILL” bar in either the REGULAR
HEAVY or SHORT Cycle [PERMANENT
PRESSfills to the highest level.)
l Pull the Control Knob out; the washer
will start to fill.
l When there is as much water as you
want in the washer, push the Control
Knob in SLOWLY turn the Control Knob
to the right, past the fill area. Pull
the knob out to start.
l You can have as many as 6 minutes
of agitation, or as few as 2 minutes with
a low water level in the REGULAR HEAVY
Cycle. In the SHORT Cycle, you will have
about 2 minutes of agitation
l For the rinse, the washer fills to its
highest level with cold water.
4. Load Sizes.
For the best cleaning results, the
load should move freely in the water.
Watch for rollover. An Item (Irke a sock)
should sink and come up again later

Important
Detergent
Information
Detergents and soaps clean
by loosening soil, and by holding it in
the water so it drains away. If not
enough detergent is used, soil and
lint can settle back on the items in
the load.
SOAP works best in soft water
(O-4 grains hardness). In harder water,
both the wash and rinse water should
be softened. Use enough soap to
make about 1% to 2 inches (3.8 to 5.5
cm) of suds.
DETERGENT works in hard or
soft water. Package directions are
usually based on soft water and
washers with normal-size tubs. Use
more detergent...
I, for hard water.
2. for heavy greasy or
oily soils.
3. if the detergent is low
phosphate.
4. for cold-water washes.
DETERGENT SUDS. There are
high. normal and low sudsing pow-
dered detergents. If the recom-
mended amount of detergent makes
too much suds, switch to a lower
sudslng brand. DO NOT REDUCE THE
AMOUNT of detergent.
Use the following chart as
beginning suggestions for powdered
and liquid detergent amounts. See
your Laundry Guide for more infor-
mation (pages 14-22).

For a Soak
or Pre Wash

work the Cycle Control Knob for these
added cleaning operatrons
SOAK
l Add detergent or pre-soak product
to washer basket Always dissolve
enzyme pre-soak and detergent
powders to help prevent spot fading
on colored items.
l Add load
l Select a warm or cold wash water
temperature. (Warm water is suggested
for most soakrng.)
l Push Cycle Control Knob in and turn
right (clockwise) to a “FILL”bar In the
REGULAR HEAVY or SHORT Cycle
l The washer fills only when the Controi
Knob points to one of these “Fiii’bors

l After the washer fills, push the Control
Knob In SLOWLY turn the Control Knob
to the 2-minute setting Pull the knob out
to start
l Let the washer agitate for about one
mrnute, then push the Control Knob In to
stop the washer.
l Soak for the time needed [Follow
package recommendatrons on the pre-
soak product) NEVER SOAK MORE
THAN TWO HOURS.
l Pull the Control Knob out to let the
washer finish agitating.
l After the washer drains and spins, but
before tt refills for the rinse, push the
Control Knob in to stop the washer.
l Add detergent for the wash. Always
dissolve powdered detergent in a
quart of warm water before adding
to a wet load. (Or use undiluted liquid
detergent )
l Turn the Control Knob to the rrght
(clockwise) to the cycle and number of
minutes you want
l Pull the Control Knob out to start the
washer
l Use chlorine bleach only in a fUll
wash cycle, not in a soak.
PRE WASH
l Add detergent to the washer basket
l Add load
l Select a wash water temperature. Use
warm or cold water for starned fabrics
Use hot for heavily soiled or greasy
loads.
l Push Cycle Control Knob in and turn
rrght (clockwise) to the “FILL”bar In the
REGULAR HEAVY Cycle.
l Pull the Control Knob out to start the
washer filling
l When the washer has filled to the
level you want, push the Control Knob in
SLOWLY turn the Control Knob right
(clockwrse) to the wash ttme needed for
the load [-usually 2 to 6 minutes.) Pull
the knob out to start.
2 TO 6 MINUTES
AGITATION
l After the washer agrtates, drains and
spins, push the Control Knob In to stop
the washer before It refills for the rinse.
l Add detergent for the second wash.
Always dissolve powdered deter-
gent in a quart of warm water
before adding to a wet load. (Or use
undiluted liquid detergent.)
l Turn the Control Knob to the right
(clockwise) to the cycle and number of
minutes you want.
l Pull the Control Knob out to start the
washer.
l Use chlorine bleach only in a full
wash cycle, not in a pre wash.

For Rinsing Only
Loads with towels, diapers, jeans
or heavily soiled items often need extra
detergent Extra detergent can require
an extra rinse.
Your washer can be set to rinse
only Use the setting for an extra rinse, or
for laundry that only needs a rinse and
spin.

on the Cycle Control Knob, turn the

For Spinning Only
There may be times when you
want to drain out all the wash water and
start over. To stop the washer at any
time, just push in on the Cycle Control
Knob
To set the washer so it drains and
spans water out of the load, push in on
the Control Knob, turn the dlol to the
right [clockwise) so the pointer is touch-
ing the bar just before OFF in any cycle
The washer WIIIdrain, spin out
water and stop.

cycle.

A CYCLE:
l Remember, the washer pauses briefly
throughout each cycle. These pauses
are normal,
MAKE SURE THE DRAIN HOSE IS HIGHER
THAN THE WATER LEVEL IN THE WASHER.
IF IT ISN’T...
l The washer may seem to be draining
during wash and rinse cycles.
l Water can siphon out. [See Installation
Instructions.)
