Discone Antenna
The AX-71C antenna is a compact VHF/UHF
omni-directional receiving and transmitting
antenna for professional and amateur
applications.
(AX-71C pole mounted using WR-AC-01 clamps)
The antenna is ideally suited for wide band
surveillance and monitoring and reception of
VHF/UHF communicationswhere its omni-
directional characteristics and high gain can be
used to advantage.
The AX-71C offers a very good VSWR figure of
less than 1.5:1 for the VHF/UHF bands
The antenna covers the frequency range of
25MHz to 1500MHz.
While designed to be entirely general-purpose
and to perform well with third-party equipment,
the WiNRADiO AX-71C Wideband Discone
Antenna is especially suitable for the WiNRADiO
range of VHF/UHF receivers.
Its construction from high-grade stainless steel,
alloy and aluminium will ensure trouble free
operation for many years.
Rapid deployment is made possible by the
antenna’s simplified design and assembly.
Connect the feed-line, attach the radials and
mount the antenna and its ready to use. No
tuning or alignment is required.
The antenna should be pole mounted and clear
of objects that may effects its performance such
as metallic objects and other antennas.

Discone Antenna
Instructions for Use
Start assembly of the antenna by fitting the lock
nuts to the 17 elements. The eight short
elements make up the disc of the antenna and
are attached around the top section of the hub.
A single long element is attached vertically to
the top of the hub. The cone is composed of the
remaining eight long elements. Attach these
elements into their respective locations around
the hub. Lock each element by tightening its
lock nut with a 7mm spanner.
Connection to the receiver is by way of a female
UHF-type connector at the base of the central
hub. The connector is protected from the
weather by the mounting tube but in extremely
harsh conditions, a self-sealing tape can be
applied over the connector for extra protection.
After passing the coaxial cable through the
mounting tube and connecting it to the base of
the hub, fit the mounting tube and fasten using
the supplied screws. The mounting tube can be
clamped or to a supporting structure with
optional clamps (Part #WR-AC-MC-01 see
below)
For optimum performance, the AX-71C should
be mounted at the top of the supporting
structure and clear of other antennas and
metallic objects.
Options
Heavy duty galvanised mastclamps.
Ordering code WR-AC-MC-01 (set of 2).
RG58 coaxial cable in 5m, 10m or 20m lengths
with connectors.
Ordering code WR-AC-UHF/BNC-RG58-length.
