Unpacking the SW-1
AfterunpackingyourSW-1,keepallpackingmaterialsforfuturetransport.In
theeventthatyouneedtoshipyourSW-1,onlytheoriginal,purpose-designed
shippingcartonisacceptable.Anyothermethodofshippingthisproductruns
ariskofdamagetotheSW-1—damagethatwouldnotbecoveredbythewar-
ranty.
CarefullyinspectyourSW-1forpossibledamageduetoshipping.Ifyoudiscov-
erany,contactyourWisdomAudiodealerimmediately.
Warm up/break-in period AlthoughyourWisdomAudioSW-1deliversoutstandingperformancestraight
outofthebox,youshouldexpecttohearitcontinuetoimproveasitreaches
itsnormaloperatingtemperaturesanditsvariouscomponents“breakin.”It
hasbeenourexperiencethatthegreatestchangesoccurwithintherst25-50
hours,butthattheSW-1willcontinuetoimproveinsoundqualityforabout
300hours,afterwhichtimeitremainsquiteconstant.
Theonlyexceptiontothisruleisifpowerisremovedfromtheunit,allowingit
tocooldown.Inthiscaseyoushouldexpectabriefwarm-upperiodbeforethe
SW-1’ssoundqualityisatitsbest.(Fortunately,youwillneverhavetorepeatthe
full300hourbreak-inperiod.)

Placement Considerations
PRECAUTION
Foryourprotection,review“ImportantSafetyInstructions”and
“OperatingVoltage”beforeyouinstallyourSW-1.
NotethatadequateclearancefortheACcordandconnectingsignalcables
mustbeleftbehindyourSW-1.Wesuggestleavingatleastsixinches(15cm)of
freespacebehindyourSW-1soallcableshavesufcientroomtobendwithout
crimpingorunduestrain.
Ifpossible,theSW-1shouldalsobeplacedinsuchawaythatthepowerswitch
ontherearpaneliseasilyaccessible.Thisswitchdisconnectspowerfromthe
unitcompletely,resultingineffectivedisconnectionoftheSW-1fromtheAC
mains.Youmightthinkofthisasa“vacationswitch,”shouldyouwishtoturn
offyoursystemcompletelywhenyouwillbeawayfromhomeforaprolonged
periodoftime.Justremembertoturnitbackonagainwhenyoureturn.
Ventilation YourWisdomAudioSW-1hasrelativelymodestventilationrequirements,
thankstoitsremarkablyefcientdesign.Typically,itbecomesonlymodestly
warmduringnormaloperation.Still,pleasebecertaintokeeptheventsonthe
sidesoftheamplierclearofanyobstruction.(Therackmountattachments
havecorrespondingvents.)

tionswherenecessary(see“Dimensions”attheendofthismanual).

Operating Voltage
Forcompatibilitywithexistinghouseholdoutlets,astandardthreeprong,15
ampereplugisprovidedontheremovable,IEC-standardACmainscable.
TheWisdomAudioSW-1willoperatewith100V–240VACmainsoperation.
OutsidetheUnitedStates,anddependingonlocalelectricalcodesandregula-
tions,theACmainscordmayneedtobereplacedwithonethatconformsto
localplug/outletstandards.

Special Design Features
High Efciency Whilemanycontemporaryamplierswaste50%ormoreofthepowertheypull
fromthewallasheat,yourSW-1amplierrunsatapproximately90%efcien-
cy.Asaresult,morepowerisavailablefortheloudspeaker,andlessiswasted
asheatinyourroom.
Thehighefciencyofthedesignalsomeansthattheamplierscanbeplacedin
closeproximitytoeachother,asinanequipmentrack,withoutundueoverheat-
ing.Ofcourse,caremustbetakentoaccountfortheheatgeneratedbyother
componentsintherack;butyourWisdomAudioamplierswillnotgreatlycon-
tributetothethermalmanagementchallengesofyoursystem.
Powerful EQ WisdomAudiousesanunusualRegenerativeTransmissionLine™(RTL™)design
inoursubwoofers.Itprovidesexceptionaltransientresponse,forasubjectively
“fast”andarticulatebottomendwhichmateswelltoouruniquethin-lmtech-
nology.
However,aswithmostsubwooferdesigns,someequalizationisrequiredto
fullyrealizetheperformancepotentialofRTLdesigns.Inmostsubwoofers,the
requisiteEQissimplybuiltintotheplateamplierthatispartofthesubwoofer
itself.Thisapproachpresentsaproblem,however,whenthesubwooferisde-
signedtobeintegratedintothehomeitself.HencetheSW-1,whichallowsthe
subwoofer’sampliertobeplacedintherackwiththerestoftheelectronics,
whileallowingthesubwoofertobeplacedwhereveritwillperformbest,with-
outviolatingbuildingcodesorevenhavingtoworryabouthavinganACoutlet
nearthesubwooferlocation.
TheSW-1comespre-programmedfromthefactoryforaspecicapplication,
whetheraparticularsubwoofermodel,or“at”inthecaseofEQbeingpro-
videdforelsewhereinthesystem(perhapsinanSC-1).
Important! SincetheSW-1comespre-programmedforaspecicmodelof
subwoofer,itisessentialtouseitonlywiththatmodelofsubwoofer.
Doingotherwisewillalmostcertainlyresultinpoorperformance.

LED Indicators
TheStandbyLEDaglowsamberwhentheunitisreceivingpowerbut
hasbeenplacedintoStandbybythepresenceofa12V“low”triggersignal
attheSW-1’s12Vtriggerinput.
IftheSW-1isinitsnormalOperatingstate,theStandbyLEDwillbeoff
buttheblueChannelindicatorbwillbeon.
IfboththeamberandblueLEDsareoff,no powerisbeingsuppliedtothe
amplier.
NotethatthenormaloperatingstatefortheSW-1istobefullyoperational
whensuppliedwithACpower.IfyouwishtotoggletheSW-1between
OperateandStandby,youmaydosobymeansofasimpleDCtrigger.

Caution! TurnofftheSW-1beforeattemptingtomakeorchangeany
connections.
1 Speaker Output Terminals
TheWisdomAudioSW-1isequippedwithhigh-currentbindingpostsfor
outputterminationtotheloudspeakersystem.Totakefulladvantageofthe
amplier’ssonicquality,werecommendusinghigh-qualityspeakercable;
pleaseseeyourWisdomAudiodealer.
Caution! NEVERconnectapoweramplier’soutputterminalstoanydevice
otherthanaloudspeaker.
NEVERshort-circuittheamplier’soutputterminals.
NEVERconnecttheoutputterminalsofoneampliertotheoutput
terminalsofanotheramplier.
EachSW-1amplierhasasingle,patentedCardasspeakerterminalfor
makingthespeakerwireconnections.Thissystemusesasinglelargeknob
totightendownonbothpositive+andnegative–connectionsatonce,
withoutanyneedfortools.
Theuniquedesignofthesebindingpostsallowstheuseofastrong,hard
materialforthethreadsthatprovidethepressureontheconnection,while
atthesametimeusingoptimalelectricalconnections(whichrequirea
softermetal).Byseparatingthemechanicalandtheelectricalsystems
withintheconnector,bothcanbeproperlyoptimized.
Therearetworecommendedmethodsforconnectingspeakercablesto
youramplier.Eitherahigh-qualityspadelugorhooklug,solderedtothe
cable(orcrimpedwithextremelyhighpressure),isbest.

Connectthe+(positive)outputpostoftheampliertothe+(positive)
inputterminaloftheappropriateloudspeaker.Connecta–(negativeor
black)outputpostoftheampliertothe–(negativeorblack)inputter-
minaloftheappropriateloudspeaker.Takecaretomaintainthisproper
polaritythroughoutthesystem.
Caution! DONOTOVERTIGHTENthebindingpostsonyouramplier!The
uniquedesignofthesepostsgivesfarmoreleveragethantraditional
posts.Youwillachievetight,highcontactpressureconnectionswith
onlymodestnger-tightening,andwithouthavingtoresorttospecial
tools.
2 RCA Inputs
Theseaudioinputsnormallyacceptthesubwooferoutputsignalsfrom
thesystem’sSurroundprocessor.Iftwoinputsareconnected,theywillbe
summedandampliedasasinglechannel.
ConnecttheappropriateoutputsoftheSW-1tothisinput,usingahigh
qualityaudiocable.
3 DC Trigger In and Out
These12Vtriggerjacksprovidecompatibilitywithawiderangeofprod-
uctstofacilitateremoteturn-onandturn-offinsystems.These1⁄8”(3.5
mm)“mini-jacks”allowothercomponentstobringtheSW-1inandout
ofstandby.Twosuchmini-jacksareprovidedtoallow“daisy-chaining”of
thisturn-onsignalwithothercomponents,includingadditionalampliers.
Theremotetriggerinputwillbeoperatedbyanypositive-polarityDC
signalbetween3–20volts(onlyafewmilliampsarerequired),withtippo-
larityasshownbelow:

WhenconnectedtoACmainspower,withnotriggerpluginserted,the
SW-1isnormallyfullyOn.EmployingaDCTriggerInputallowsyouto
placetheamplierintostandby.Whenthevoltagetransitionsfromhighto
low(off),theunitwillgointostandby.
The12VTriggerOutputjackisdriventoa“high”stateof12voltsafew
secondsaftertheSW-1isturnedon,andcansourceasmuchas100mA
ofcurrentat12volts.Thissignalmaybeusedinturntocontrolother
components,suchasadditionalWisdomAudioSA-seriesampliers.

systemtofacilitateastaggeredturn-onsequence.
YourWisdomAudiodealercanhelpyoutakeadvantageofthesedesign
featurestomaximizeyoursystem’sconvenienceandversatility.
4 Ethernet port
Notimplementedatthistime.Reservedforpossiblefutureuse.
5 Power Switch
An AC mains switch islocatedadjacenttothepowercordontherearpanel
oftheSW-1.ThisswitchmaybeusedtodisconnecttheunitfromtheAC
mainswithouthavingtoactuallyunplugtheSW-1fromthewalloutlet.
Ifyouplantobeawayforanextendedperiod,orhaveanyotherreasonto
turntheSW-1completelyoff,youmayeitherunplugtheSW-1oryoumay
usetheAC mains switch.
Important! Aswithallyourelectronics,wesuggestyoucompletelydisconnect
theSW-1fromtheACmainsduringsevereelectricalstorms.
6 AC Mains Input and Fuse Holder
A15-ampereIECstandardpowercordisusedwiththeSW-1.Ahighqual-
ity15-ampereACmainscordisincludedwiththeproduct,althoughthe
useofthestandardizedIECreceptaclemeansthatyoumayeasilysubsti-
tuteanotherhighqualityACmainscordifyouwish.
Warning! YournewWisdomAudioSW-1hasbeensafety-testedandis
designedforoperationwithathree-conductorpowercord.Donot
defeatthe“thirdpin”orearthgroundoftheACpowercord.
WerecommendthatcarebetakentoensurethatallACplugsforthe
equipmentinthesystembewiredsoastoensureproperACpolarity.
Doingsowillminimizenoiseinthesystem.
Danger! Potentiallydangerousvoltagesandcurrentcapabilitiesexistwithin
yourSW-1.DonotattempttoopenanyportionoftheSW-1’s
cabinet.Therearenouser-serviceablepartsinsideyourSW-1.All
serviceofthisproductmustbereferredtoaqualiedWisdomAudio
dealerordistributor.
IntheU.S.,asimpleACmainstester(foundatanyhardwarestore)can
testtoensurethatyourelectricaloutletsarewiredproperly.Elsewherein
theworld(forexample,inEuropeanUnioncountries),theACmainsplugs
themselvesarenotalwayspolarized.Yourdealercantestfortheproper
orientationoftheplugintheoutlet.Insuchacase,itisgoodpracticeto

markbothplugandoutlettoensurethatallproductsremainintheproper
orientationshoulditbecomenecessarytotemporarilydisconnectthe
system(asforexample,duringanelectricalstorm).
Finally,theWisdomAudioSW-1incorporatesafuseblockthatprotects
boththeliveandneutral(ground)sidesofthecircuit.IfyourSW-1is
pluggedintoanACoutletthatyouknowislive(plugalampintoitasa
test),andyetappearstobeoff,checkthefollowing:
1 ChecktheACcordtomakesureitisnotdamaged.
2. ChecktheACmainsswitchtoensurethatitisOn(theside
withthestraightlineisdepressed,notthe“O”side).
3. Ifthatdoesnotresolvetheproblem,turnOfftheACmains
switch(“O”)andthendisconnectthepowercordfromtheAC
mainsreceptacle.
4. Usingasmallscrewdriver,gentlypryopenthefuseblockcover
atthetopedgeoftheassembly.(Youmaybeabletodoitwith
justyourngernail.)
5. Pulloutthefuseblock,andcheckbothfuses.Ifeitherisblown,
pleasecontactyourlocalWisdomAudiodealer(orWisdom
Audio)forservice.

Care & Maintenance
ToremovedustfromthecabinetofyourSW-1,useafeatherdusteroralint-free
softcloth.Toremovedirtandngerprints,werecommendisopropylalcohol
andasoftcloth.Dampentheclothwithalcoholrstandthenlightlycleanthe
surfaceoftheSW-1withthecloth.Donotuseexcessiveamountsofalcohol
thatmightdripofftheclothandintotheSW-1.
Caution! AtnotimeshouldliquidcleanersbeapplieddirectlytotheSW-1,
asdirectapplicationofliquidsmayresultindamagetoelectronic
componentswithintheunit.

North American Warranty
Five Year Warranty WhenpurchasedfromandinstalledbyanauthorizedWisdomAudiodealer,
WisdomAudio®electronicproductsarewarrantedtobefreefromdefectsin
materialandworkmanshipundernormaluseforaperiodofveyearsfromthe
originaldateofpurchase.
Duringthewarrantyperiod,anyWisdomAudiocomponentexhibitingdefects
inmaterialsand/orworkmanshipwillberepairedorreplaced,atouroption,
withoutchargeforeitherpartsorlabor,atourfactory.Thewarrantywillnot
applytoanyWisdomAudiocomponentthathasbeenmisused,abused,altered,
orinstalledandcalibratedbyanyoneotherthananauthorizedWisdomAudio
dealer.
AnyWisdomAudiocomponentnotperformingsatisfactorilymaybereturnedto
thefactoryforevaluation.Returnauthorizationmustrstbeobtainedbyeither
callingorwritingthefactorypriortoshippingthecomponent.Thefactorywill
payforreturnshippingchargesonlyintheeventthatthecomponentisfoundto
bedefectiveasmentionedabove.Thereareotherstipulationsthatmayapplyto
shippingcharges.
Thereisnootherexpresswarrantyonthiscomponent.Neitherthiswarrantynor
anyotherwarranty,expressorimplied,includinganyimpliedwarrantiesofmer-
chantabilityortness,shallextendbeyondthewarrantyperiod.Noresponsibil-
ityisassumedforanyincidentalorconsequentialdamages.Somestatesdonot
