1-3Preventing Injury and Damage
16-1408348
Preventing
Injury and
Damage
Preventing Shock ALWAYS power equipment OFF at the Power Switch.
Regardless of the type of procedure, set all Power Switches to OFF when servicing the game,
Top Box, or other equipment.
Unplug equipment from the outlet if not handling ESD-sensitive components.
Exercise caution when working around electrical equipment. Preventing ESD
ALWAYS wear an ESD wrist strap.
Fasten a resistive type (1 or 10 Meg) ESD wrist strap on arm and ensure that it makes good skin
contact, Figure 1-3 (A). Secure the clip end of the wrist strap to a nearby ground point.
Suggested grounds points are:
An unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.
Any labeled ESD common ground point, Figure 1-3.
Figure 1-3 ESD wrist strap (left) and ESD common ground point symbol (right).
Ground equipment when handling ESD-sensitive components.
When accessing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or components in direct contact with PCBs,
including EPROMs, CompactFlash® Cards, and PCB connectors, connect the three-prong
equipment line cord to a properly grounded outlet. Then, secure the clip end of the ESD wrist
strap to an unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.
Replacing/Repairing
AC Line Cord
If the AC Line Cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer (WMS), its service agent,
or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
Properly Secure and
Vent All Equipment
Before performing any service tasks, the game (and Top/Accessory Box, if applicable) must be
properly secured as described in the Service Manual. All WMS cabinets and associated equipment
(including Top/Accessory Box, controllers, etc.) must be properly installed. Upright games must be
mounted to a stand using four bolts, and all stands must be bolted to the floor, a wall, or secured
back to back. Slant games must be installed back to back, or back against a wall. WMS Upright
(BBU/BB2/BB2e) and Slant (BBS/BBS-W) cabinets require a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm)
clearance on both sides and at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. WMS BBxD cabinets may be
placed directly side by side, but require a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance at the rear to allow
for proper ventilation. Failure to fully secure and vent games may cause injury and equipment
damage.

Preparation for
Installing CPU-
NXT 3.2 (BB2
and BBxD)
This section contains steps that must be completed before installing CPU-NXT 3.2.
NOTES:
To upgrade CPU-NXT 2 to CPU-NXT 3.2, see Installation: CPU-NXT 3.2 into the BB2 on
page 3 or Installation: CPU-NXT 3.2 into the BBxD on page 14 depending on the gaming
cabinet.
To upgrade CPU-NXT 3 to CPU-NXT 3.2, see Upgrading CPU-NXT3 to CPU-NXT 3.2 on
page 26.
Before upgrading a game from CPU-NXT2 or CPU-NXT3, ensure the replacement game
theme and OS are compatible with CPU-NXT 3.2
All instructions for the BB2 configuration are also valid for the BB2e configuration.

Removing the
Protective Pull-Tabs
from the Backup
Battery
There may be protective pull-tabs, Figure 2-1 (A), on the two backup batteries on the CPU Board.
If there are battery pull-tabs installed, remove them, Figure 2-1 (B), to connect the backup
batteries to the CPU Board.
Once the batteries are enabled or if they are ever replaced, the time and date should be set up in
the OS.
WARNING: If the backup batteries are not working, the game may lose settings when the power is
turned off.
Figure 2-1 Backup batteries with tabs (left) and with tabs removed (right).
Changing the CPU
Shipping Locks
To ensure that the CPU Assembly Shipping Lock does not open during transport, a Torsion Spring
keeps the lock from slipping open, Figure 2-2 (A). The Torsion Spring must be removed when the
Shipping Lock is replaced.
Figure 2-2 Shipping Lock on the inside of the CPU Assembly Door.
1Remove the CPU Enclosure Door from the game if applicable.
2Release the Torsion Spring, Figure 2-2 (A).
3Using a 7/16-inch Nut Driver, ratchet, remove the cam, Figure 2-2 (B).
4Using a 7-8-inch Nut Driver, ratchet remove the Shipping Lock, Figure 2-2 (D).
5When the Shipping Lock is removed, discard the Torsion Spring, Figure 2-2 (A).
6Install the new lock according to casino protocol. Ensure that the cam removed in the previous
step is installed with the new lock.

This section contains the steps to install CPU-NXT 3.2 into the BB2. If you are installing the CPU
into a BBxD, see Installation: CPU-NXT 3.2 into the BBxD on page 2-14.
NOTE:All instructions for the BB2 are also valid for the BB2e.
ESD: When handling CPU-NXT 3.2 away from the game, observe the following ESD Precautions
listed in Preventing Injury and Damage on page 1-3:
Ensure that the game Line Cord is connected to the Power Entry Assembly to ground the
game.
Wear an ESD wrist strap that is secured to a ground on the game.
NOTE:Before upgrading a game from CPU-NXT2 or CPU-NXT3, ensure the replacement game
theme and OS are compatible with CPU-NXT 3.2.
Removing
CPU-NXT2
Assembly
Complete the following steps to remove the CPU-NXT2 Assembly from the BB2.
1Unlock and open the Main Door.

Installing
CPU-NXT 3.2
Complete the following steps to install CPU-NXT 3.2:
1With the Logic Door open or removed, Figure 2-20 (A), slide CPU-NXT 3.2 Enclosure onto the
four mounting hooks, Figure 2-20 (B).
WARNING: Do not attempt to seat the CPU into the Bulkhead without removing the Logic Door.
Doing so may damage the CPU and/or the Bulkhead.
Figure 2-20 CPU-NXT 3.2 with Logic Door removed (left) and mounting hooks in BB2 (right).
2On the bottom right corner of CPU-NXT 3.2, push down on the black mounting tab,
Figure 2-21 (A), making sure to latch the tab on the mechanical hook, to lock the enclosure into
the blind mate connectors on the top of the Bulkhead Board, Figure 2-20 (C).
CAUTION: This step is critical to the proper function of the CPU.

3Install the two CompactFlash® cards by gently pushing down on the center of the cards,
Figure 2-22.
NOTE: The front of the Compact Flash cards face the video card heatsink, and the back of the
CompactFlash cards face the CPU faceplate.
Install the game software card into the left CompactFlash slot above the GAME label located
on the SSD bracket, Figure 2-22 (A).

4Install the Logic Door on the CPU hinges, then turn the lock to the left and close the Logic Door,
Figure 2-23.
NOTE: If the Logic Door detaches, reinstall it by first engaging the left mounting pin and pushing the
Logic Door towards the Main Door hinge to engage the right mounting pin,
Figure 2-23 (A).
