3.2. Configuring the IP connection
The primary Ethernet port is labeled ENE1. We recommend using the secondary Ethernet port labeled ENE2 for
initialization and maintenance.
Connect the RELIO to the AC power supply, Ethernet cable and breakout panels. It
should power up as soon as it is connected to AC power.
Open a Web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox…) and enter the default IP address for the ENE2 port:
172.17.2.172 to open the unit’s embedded website. Default login is: Admin / admin.
Though the web application is compatible with most browsers, performances vary from one browser to
another. Below is a list of compatible browsers from the most performing to the less performing by operating
system:
Windows XP: Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox
Windows Vista: Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox
Windows 7: Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox / Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
Windows 8: Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox / Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
Mac (OSX 10.9): Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox / Safari
Linux (2013): Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox
iPad / iPhone (IOS 6.X, 7.0x): Apple Safari / Google Chrome
Android phone (4.4): Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox
Connecting to the embedded web site can be done in http (standard mode) or https (secured mode). With
https, some browsers may display a message indicating that the connection is not certified. WorldCast
Systems cannot indeed certify your unit’s address; however, the connection is secured (data is encrypted) and
you may proceed to access it. Other browsers may block access to the site; you may then use an http
connection.
Open a Web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox…) and enter the default IP address for the ENE2 port:
starting with the chosen protocol:
http://172.17.2.172 or https://172.17.2.172
Default Login and Password: “Admin” / “admin”.

Click to display the network parameter page.
Now, go to the System Settings page to set the primary IP address. Do not modify the secondary IP address.
Switch your network connection from ENE2 to ENE1.
3.3. Using a Crossover connection
The Relio is intended to operate on a standard TCP/IP Ethernet network environment, be it a LAN, WAN, or the
Internet. The unit can function autonomously, and a standard telephone line (POTS) can be used for control and
phone alerts, but setup, configuration and scripting of the Relio must be done via a network connection.
If no network is available, you can create one with an inexpensive network switch or hub. Simply plug the Relio and
a PC into the hub and confirm the IP settings are compatible. If no network device is available, you can connect a
PC directly to the Relio using a special network cable called a ‘crossover cable’.
For two devices to communicate on a network, certain parameters in the devices must be set correctly, most
notably the IP address and the network mask. These parameters let the network direct data traffic to the correct
destinations, In most network environments, an IT person has set up a special server on the network to
automatically control these settings in the PCs that connect to the network. This process is called DHCP.
When using a simple hub or a crossover cable, DHCP is not available, so you must manually control the IP settings
for both the Relio and the PC to ensure they can communicate. We have already discussed how to set the IP
address and network mask for the Relio, now we can address how to set your PC to a static address that will be
compatible with the settings in the Relio. For a mask setting of 255.255.255.0, this would mean that the first three
groups of numbers (or octets) in the IP addresses must be the same, while the fourth and final set of numbers
cannot be the same. For example, with a typical IP setting of the Relio –192.168.1.115, and a mask of
255.255.255.0, the static IP address you configure on your PC could be anywhere from 192.168.1.1 to
192.168.1.255 –anything in that range, as long as the last set of numbers is not 115!

To access the IP settings of your PC,
you can browse to the ‘Network
Connections’ link in the Control Panel
or in the ‘My Network Places’ page.
Right-click on the ‘Local Area
Connection’, click ‘Properties’, then
‘select ‘TCP/IP’ and click ‘Properties’
again.
Click on ‘Use the following IP address’ and enter the IP settings and
the 255.255.255.0 mask in the boxes provided. For a crossover direct
connection, a gateway setting and DNS servers are not necessary.
Click ‘OK’ and ‘Close’ to reconfigure the network connection on the
PC. You should now be able to connect to the Relio using the
crossover cable.
3.4. Other connection methods:
Should the user be unable to connect to either network port of the Relio, there are two alternate methods to
access and control the network settings of the unit.
The first method is to connect a standard VGA monitor to the VGA jack on the rear panel. It will also be necessary
to connect a USB keyboard and mouse. The screen should display a login page, entering the username and
password (Admin / admin are the defaults) will launch the ScriptEasy software on the Relio itself. Select
View/System Configuration and click the Network link to open a menu where you can view and change the settings
for both the primary and secondary Ethernet ports. See appendix B for more information.
A second method is to connect an RS-232 ‘null modem’ cable between a PC and the COM 0 port on the Relio. Open
a terminal program (HyperTerminal, TerraTerm, etc) and connect at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop
bit (9600, 8,N,1). Hit <spacebar><Enter>. The following screen should display:
The default password is admin, enter it and use the Tab key to
navigate the cursor to the ‘OK’ window and hit <Enter>.
You should see this menu. Use the arrow keys to
highlight your choice and hit <Enter>. If you
select ‘Enable Static IP settings’, you will be
presented a menu where you can set the IP
address, mask and gateway settings for the
Primary network interface. Use the Tab and arrow keys to navigate through the menu and enter your choices to
control the network settings.

3.5. Connecting the breakout panels
There are several different panels available to facilitate the connection of the I/Os of the Relio to external
equipment.
Analog input connector boards and Digital input
connector boards are fairly self-explanatory. Newer
Digital Input boards come with a small power
supply to provide easily accessible voltage to drive
the opto-isolators. For Digital (control) outputs, two
different options are available: a simple breakout
board that allows direct access to the open
collector outputs from the Relio, and a Relay
output board populated with SPDT relays. This
board comes with a separate power supply to
power the relays.
All of the breakout panels come with the high-
density latching connector SCSI cables needed to
connect them to the Relio.

3.8. System Settings
Definition of the IP configuration:
oEthernet configuration mode
It is preferable to configure the Primary network interface ENET1 with static parameters.
Should the unit be set to DHCP, you may lose the ability to know what IP address it has
and thus access it on the network. If this occurs, you must return to static IP settings
using either the serial connection or local KVM, as described in section 3.4 of this
manual, and in the Quick Start guide.
oStatic Ethernet configuration
Enter the static IP parameters in this window. IP address and mask are essential,
gateway is important if the Relio is to communicate outside its own subnet. The
secondary interface can be used as a backup interface if the Ethernet fail-over function is
enabled.
oDNS Servers: DNS configuration. Very important if the Relio is to send e-mails using an
alpha server name (i.e. smtp.server.com as opposed to 54.32.156.67).

oCurrent network status: present network table.
oEthernet fail-over: the Ethernet fail-over function enables the unit to send alarms using
the back-up Ethernet interface in case of issues with the primary interface. The unit
pings the reference address (Always-on IP) at regular intervals (Time between pings). If
there is no answer, the switch takes place. The unit keeps pinging the reference address
and switches back to the primary interface when there is an answer.
When changing the “Time between ping”, the previous time will be applied a last time after update.
!The Ethernet fail-over function and PPP Dialout are mutually exclusive.
Remember to click the ‘Update’ button in each section to lock in any changes.
