The following important issues regarding the WSI Broadcast Datalink Receiver AV-300/350,
Avidyne Part Number 700-00159-( ), installation should be noted during the planning stages.
See Section 2 for additional information:
1. These installation instructions assume that the processor and antenna can be
installed in a structurally sound manner in accordance with the installation
manual and FAA Advisory Circular 43.13.
2. Mounting the antenna on composite and pressurized aircraft requires
engineering guidance beyond the scope of this manual. With respect to the STC,
the physical mounting of the antenna is specifically excluded from the approval in
the case of installations on the pressure vessel of pressurized aircraft, composite
aircraft, and aircraft with a certification basis of Amendment 23-45 or later. All
early amendment, metal construction, non-pressurized aircraft antenna
installations must be installed consistent with accepted industry practices. The
installation must be structurally sound and in accordance with FAA Advisory
Circular 43.13-1B and 43.13-2B.
3. An Electrical Load Analysis must be accomplished to determine that the
electrical limits of the specific aircraft are not exceeded. The Electrical Load
Analysis, Functional Hazard Assessment and other certification requirements for
the aircraft must remain in compliance.
4. Avidyne Part Number 700-00159-( ) conforms to the requirements of Technical Standard
Order (TSO) Authorization, TSO-C157.
5. The AV-300/350 receiver may be mounted in either a vertical or horizontal orientation.
6. The AV-300/350 is mounted with integral flanges.
7. The AV-300/350 receiver needs to be well grounded to the airframe. Section 2 has
detailed instructions about proper connection.
8. Do not connect this device to the essential electrical bus.
9. The remote control antenna is mounted within the cabin at a location with an
unobstructed line of sight to the location(s) where the remote control will be used. An
obstruction would consist of parts or surfaces that might interfere with radio frequency
communications such as metallic parts or surfaces.

UNCTION
The intended function of the AV-300/350 is to provide reception of weather and other data
products that will assist the flight crew in assessing whether current conditions are suitable to the
flight characteristics of their aircraft. The AV-300/350 weather data is NOT to be used for
tactical weather maneuvering. The AV-300/350 weather data is intended to supplement weather
data received from Flight Service Stations and Air Traffic Control, and will improve the pilot’s
overall situational awareness.
The AV-300/350 Broadcast Datalink Receiver is an aircraft Flight Information Services –
Broadcast (FIS-B) receiver that meets the requirements of TSO-C157. Additional related
features in the form of broadcast audio content are also made available.
R

The receiver can serve multiple external displays. Each display interfaces to the receiver
through its own bi-directional RS-232 port. One of the two RS-232 ports (COM1) is also
available as an RS-422 port. The RS-422 transmit port may always be used to support a single
receive-only display; however the RS-422 receive port should only be used when the COM1 RS-
232 port is not used. Either of the RS-232 ports may be used asynchronously, but the COM1
RS-232 port may also be used synchronously. Contact WSI for information regarding
compatible displays.
The display device(s) may require hardware and/or software upgrades to display AV-300/350
weather data products. Contact the Display manufacturer for details.
NOTE: The AV-300/350 weather data products will vary with subscription level from the
weather service provider and the type of display device used. Contact the display
