HOW TO INSTALL VALKYRIE TEST MODULES

SPECIFICATIONS
The ValkyrieBay is a 12-slot, 4U heavy-duty steel rack mount chassis designed to operate reliably in a
standard IT environment. This guide describes the installation of modules in:
 Val-C12-720G

QUICK OVERVIEW
Installing test modules in the ValkyrieBay chassis requires the following steps to be completed:
1. Remove the top lid by unscrewing the two bolts at the back of the chassis.
2. Unscrew the restraining bar that holds the modules in place (if needed, unplug the fan power
connector)
3. Choose which slot the module should sit in and remove the bracket.
4. Slide the module into place and use the screw to secure it
5. If needed (see list below), connect 12 V power cable.to the module.
6. Position the restraining bar in place and screw the restraining bar tightly in place
(remember to reconnect power connector for the top fan bar)
7. Remount top lid (Do not operate the chassis without top lid)

Modules marked blue must be removed from chassis and packaged separately before
transportation.
Always use the original Xena boxes for shipping (including the polystyrene foam and anti-static bags).
Recommendations:
 For ports that are not in use, keep dust caps mounted
 Do not cover the front or rear ventilation openings in the chassis
 Clean the chassis min. every 12 months to remove dust, using compressed air to ensure
optimal ventilation
Please take precautions to avoid any ESD damage by using ESD wrist strap or other precaution.
Before opening the chassis, make sure to disconnect the power plugs.

The installation steps outlined above are described in detail below. Please refer to the relevant
section.
STEP 1:
Remove the top cover by unscrewing the two bolts at the back of the chassis.
STEP 2:
Unscrew the restraining bar that holds the modules securely in place. The restraining
bar is attached to the chassis by two screws.
It is very important that the retraining bar is installed during transport.
On the restraining bar the alignment bar and the top fan bar are attached.

STEP 2 (cont.):
Slide the retaining bar and the attached alignment bar and top fan bar carefully to the side, and
turn it upside down as shown below, so you will have access to the module slots in the
chassis

If necessary, unplug the fan power supply

STEP 3:
Remove front bracket and install modules in the chosen slots.

STEP 4:
Slide the test module so it’s aligned with the chassis front, and press it firmly into the slot.

b Fasten the test module with the screws removed in Step 3

STEP 5:
If needed (see list on page 3), connect 12 V power cable (Use delivered 12V splitter cable)
STEP 6:
If fan bar power cable was detached in step 2 remount this power cable
Position the restraining bar in place and fasten the two screws.

STEP 7:
Remount top lid and fasten it with the two finger screws
(Do not operate the chassis without top lid)

IMPORTANT
ALWAYS REMOVE LONG TEST MODULES BEFORE SHIPPING
To minimize the risk of damage, please remove “long” test modules before transportation. This includes any
test module(s) that extend past the metal restraining bar under the chassis lid.
Always use the original Xena boxes for shipping (including the polystyrene foam and anti-static bags).
