SUB AMP 1
wo ks just as good fo those who want
to powe the passive subwoofe s
(XTZ 99 W10.17P)
o any othe subwoofe s. SUB AMP1
can be pe fect
as a amplifie fo bi-amping fo full ange speake s
By using one o two subwoofe s (with co ect
placement), it is often easie to get a bette
f equency esponse.
Amplifier
The XTZ Sub Amp 1
is equipped with a powe ful
300 watt amplifie with a la ge heat sink
fo
effective cooling. Fo p ofessional
use (studio, PA
etc), it is equipped with a balanced input. T
he
te minal connecto s a e gold plated and ve y solid.
To achieve a high powe and a long du abil
ity, the
amplifie use a la ge to oidal t ansfo me , la ge
elect olytic capacito s and Toshiba bipola
t ansisto s in the output stage.
The active amplifie also
p ovides a va iety of
adjustment options, not possible to obtain us
ing a
passive filte . These include
phase, f equency, high
pass filte ing, volume etc.
By using these settings, the main amplifie is
elieved and only needs to d ive the mid ange and
t eble. This usually esults in lowe disto tion and
the isk of damages on it is lowe ed.
Preparations
Unpacking
Ca efully unpack the speake , and pay attention so
you don't b eak anything. If possible, save the
packing box fo futu e t anspo tations. If the e
should be damage on the loudspeake , please
contact you etaile .
Check that the mains voltage ma king on the back
panel matches you local mains voltage.
If the p oduct is cold, wait to connect the powe
cable till it eaches oom tempe atu e. If you don’t
do this you can cause damage of the p oduct.

Practice of sound / Installation and placement tips
This chapte contains common info mation on
loudspeake placement and installation.
This is gene al ules, so the e a e ex
ceptions of
some ules
In which room do
you achieve the best
sound?
No matte how good the equipment is, in the w ong
listening envi onment it will inevitably sound bad.
The e a e some basic ules conce ning a p ope
loudspeake installation:
Reflections
Ca pets, cu tains and soft fu nitu e abso b mid
ange and high f equency sound, and this is
p efe able. Big empty a ea, on the cont a y, eflects
it and p oduces ha d eflections that may lead to
blu y dialogue. Apa t f om colou ing the
sound,
also the pe spective of the sound will dete io ate.
Reflections in the oom can oughly be compa ed to
the eflections that yield ghost pictu es on a TV
sc een.
Amplification of bass
frequencies
A loudspeake that is placed nea a wall, ce
iling o
floo will amplify lowe f equencies in a sometimes
not desi able way (since it may lead to an indistinct
sound ec eation). This amplification becomes even
mo e obvious if the loudspeake is placed nea a
co ne . Thus, fo a sound as clea as pos
sible, the
loudspeake should be placed at least 30 cm (about
12 inch) away f om the wall
Some const uctions a e made to be placed closed to
a wall.
Room dimensions
Quad atic ooms o ooms whe e the length is
exactly twice as long as the width sho
uld be
avoided, since they may c eate unwanted
esonance.
Furniture
Be awa e that fu nitu e may vib ate and thus c eate
bad sound at loud bass.
Front speakers
To get the best esult the f ont speake s should be
placed symmet ical in f ont
of the listene . The
distance between the f ont speake s should be
a ound 80% of the distance to the listene . In othe
wo ds, the ecommended angle between the f ont
speake s should be 45°
Angling?
Eithe you can have the loudspeake s angled in
towa ds the listene o you can have them di ected
st aight ahead. Some loudspeake s sounds bette
when angled, but this may also depend on
eflections f om the side walls. By angling the
loudspeake s inwa ds, you dec ease unwanted
eflections and thus yo
u get a bette ste eo
pe spective.

Placement of the
subwoofer
The placement of the subwoofe in the oom
d amatically affects the ove all f equency esponse
and sound level of the system. At low f equencies
the effect of the oom is st ong. Even a
slight
change in the subwoofe 's location can make a
significant diffe ence in the f equency balance.
Patience and expe imentation is needed to find the
optimal placement. The placement affects the
phase diffe ence between the main loudspeake s
and the subwoofe .
Subwoofe s often get a mo e linea f equency
esponse placed in a co ne .
The correct height
If the loudspeake s a e small, they should be placed
on stands o tilted so that they a e on the same
level as the ea s.
Cables
T y to k
eep them as sho t as possible. By its
elect ical pa amete s, a long conducto will have a
bigge influence on the sound than a sho t one.
The subwoofe cable should be shielded, to avoid
noise.
Make su e that all connections a e clean and not
oxidised. A
ll connections should be mechanically
stable, both powe , signal and loudspeake cables.
Signal cables should be sepa ated f om othe
cables.
Finally
Please emembe that good sound is a matte of
taste, so you have to expe iment to obtain you
favou ite one. We wish you best of luck!

Mounting and connecting tips
Mounting
alternatives
SUM AMP1
is const ucted to be placed lying down
o standing up.
Place the logotype in same di ection
as SUB AMP1
Mount the feet on the side you want
to be
down.
Connect using the
correct phase
Always connect using the co ect phase, f om the
+-pole on the amplifie to the +-
pole on the
loudspeake and co esponding fo minus (-).
If you by accident connect the othe way,
the e is no isk of
damage. Howeve , the
sound will not be co ect, especially in the
lowe f equencies.
Overload
With high powe load unde long time the e is isk
of ove loading the d ive and/o the amplifie .
If you play ext emely
loud fo a long time
the e is a
big isk that you dest oy the
p oduct.
Load
We ecommend that no mo e than 2pcs of 8 Ohms
subwoofe should be connected to SUB AMP1.
This is because the impedance should be
ext emely
low.

Main switch
(ON, OFF)
Powe switch. P ess down "I" to powe on and the
indicato will be lighted. P ess "0" to powe off.
Make su e it is set OFF when connecting /
disconnecting cables. The e is an automatic switch
on the subwoofe . When it has signal
in, it will
switch on and consequently switch to standby (this
is indicated by the LED, which tu ns blue when
standby is p esent) when no signal is p esent (afte
a ce tain time pe iod). The efo e, you can have it
ON constantly.
To obtain the optimal sou
nd, you should
let the subwoofe be in ON mode. The
amplifie will then immediately have the
ight wo king tempe atu e f om the
beginning. Tu n off the subwoofe if it is
not in use fo along pe iod.
VOLUME
Cont ols volume level of subwoofe . Be gentl

f equency to match c ossove f equency of Home
Theat e components.
EQ
1
Inc eases 7dB @ 25Hz
Excessive use of EQ can lead to damage of the
subwoofer, when used at high volumes
EQ
2
Inc eases 7dB @ 50Hz
Excessive use of EQ can lead to damage of the

PHASE
0-180 phase adjustment
HIGH PASS
Switch ON and the high pass a e available. Switch
OFF and the high pass a e unavailable.
The high pass c ossove emoves the
deepest pa t of the b
ass spect a. This is
helpful in many ooms, since they heavily
amplify the deep bass tones, which may
lead to uncont olled bass.
BALANCE
Balanced input
LINE IN
Line-
level inputs to subwoofe . Use these RCA
jacks to connect audio signals f om line-
level
outputs on a eceive , p eamplifie , television set o
su ound sound decode . If only a mono (single)
subwoofe output is p ovided, connect it to eithe
of input jack.
Rema k: By connecting both lines
in
inputs to the same signal, you inc ea
se the
level by 3 dB. Ce tain types of simple low
level audio cables may c eate a noise in
the subwoofe . We ecommend double
shielded low level cables to be used.
SPEAKER IN
Ste eo high-
level inputs to subwoofe . Use these
te minals when line-level
connections a e not
available f om eceive , p eamplifie o su ound
