Receizter
Recording
when usedin thismode,
theDVS-2
maintains
acontinuous
recording

the last (approximately)
16seconds
of audio from the main receiver.
This
can
beparticularly helpful in picking out callsigns
during apileup,as
you

The record/playbackprocess
in this mode is analogous
to an 16-second

Recording
B Transmitting Messages
This mode allows the DVS-2 to record either two g-secondmessages
or
four 4-second messagesof audio from the microphone, such as contest
exchanges
or station IDs. Eachcan then be played'back, either in monitor
mode (without transmission),"or directly over the air. Note that the digital
memory used in this mode is independent from that used for recelver
recording (soyou canstore both types of memory without interfering with
oneanother).
The 8- and 4-secondmessages
sharethe samememory, so two 4-second
message
segments (1 and 2 or 3 and 4) can be combined into one g_second
message
for transmission, asindicated in the table below.

"On TheAir" Playback
After recording
amemorysegment,
you can
play it backovertheair by
pressingthe appropriatenumberedbutton. The greenpLAy and red TX
LEDs
will bothlight for amaximumof eitherfour or eightseconds,

ingtothesetting

switch.
Example
of Combining
Messages
for Transmission
since
you will probablywant to takeadvantage
of combiningmessages
forplayback,
youmaywanttotakeafewminutes
toplanoutyoursegment
recording
strategy.
Consider
thefollowing example:
using the4 segment-by-4-second
mode,if you storedthe segmentslike
this:
Segment1: "CQ
Contest
CQ
Contest
CQContest
from,,
Segment
2: lyour callsign]
Segment
3: "QSL,you're5-9,200"
(orwhatever
contest
exchange
is
appropriate)
Segment-4: "QRzContestfromlyourcallsign],,
In the contest,
you would then,
J switch to the 2-segment-by-8-second
mode to combinethe segment
pairs,
J Press
button 1to sendsegments
1 & 2 ("Ce Contest
Ce Contest
Ce
Contest
from [yourcallsign]")
until you gotaresponse,
J Send
theother
station's
callsign,
J Press
button 2, to send segments
3 & 4 (.eSLr 1lourS-g, Z}O...}IiZ
Contest
from [yourcallsign]").
Notice in this example,
you canoperate
the entirecontest
while only
havingto send
theotherstation's
callsign
by voice
- all repetitiveinforma-
tion is handledby the DVS-2(of course,
in contests
where you needto
include a QSo count, you would want to arrangethe segments
a little
differently,
perhaps
using theLby-4-second
modefor transmissions).
