6.1 AVI File Based Encoder or Decoder
This System is based upon Z3’s optimized GStreamer system. This System will support up to 720p A/V
recording to SD card. Use component video input and stereo audio input for 720 recording and using
composite A/V input for NTSC or PAL input.
The System will encode A/V and save AVI to SD card with options 1-4.
Option 5 will decode what was encoded.
oOption 5 also supports seek-forward and seek-reverse trick mode if the audio codec is G.711
or LPCM only. These can be enabled by hitting the “H” (reverse seek) or “L” (forward seek)
key during playback of option 5 and the “space bar” toggles between pause and play.
Options 6 –9 assume that the microSD or SD card has the proper content installed on the card.
7.0 STREAMING SYSTEM- QCIF TO 720p
Type “Q” out of main GStreamer System screen to go to Z3 Streaming System. This System is based upon
Z3’s low latency streaming system. Consult with Z3 about the latest latency measurements but at the time
of this document the encode latency was 70ms. This System currently supports composite NTSC or PAL
input as well as component input up to720p. This System can encode QCIF to 720p30 in H.264 and stream
to VLC. The compressed video is streamed over Ethernet using RTP. The receiver running VLC with loading
appropriate configuration file can receive and decode streamed content. This System is also compatible
with Z3’s embedded receiver but it requires another Z3-DM365 system to act as the receiver (purchased
separately). The performance of Z3’s embedded receiver is much higher than can be achieved with PC. By
default, the PC running VLC must be configured with static IP of 192.168.0.xx as setup for default
streaming, net mask of 255.255.0.0 and default gateway of 192.168.0.1.
The streaming System requires one (1) Z3-DM365-MOD and one (1) Z3-DM365-APP.
Connect the input video source (and audio if you have one) to the Z3-DM365-APP. Component video
input is J14, audio input is J15. Make sure the audio and video source have started playing and cabling
is good.
Connect Ethernet cable to Ethernet hub. Connect PC to hub. Please verify the unit’s network
settings are correct for your network per section “Changing Network Parameters”.
Open VLC on PC.
a. Open file z3_multicast_h264_aac_48000.sdp for H.264 video and 48kHz AAC audio.
*If you do not have this file, please check your Z3 Server user account provided by Z3.
*Note: If you are using a laptop computer to run VLC, make sure to choose the 'High Performance'
mode in your Power options.
*Note: If VLC does not receive any video after waiting 10 seconds, it will give up. In this case, hit the
'Play' arrow in the VLC button controls to try it again.
