GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The CIB-BOS board provides a seamless interface between the FLIR®Boson®infrared camera and the Z3
Technology DCK system encoders. The CIB-BOS board allows for one of two possible interface styles, the
proprietary FlexIO interface system present on some DCK encoder models using a 30-pin JST connector, or a
30-pin KEL ribbon cable. The CIB-BOS board enables a single cable from the DCK encoder to provide power
and control to the Boson camera while transmitting digital LVDS digital video from the camera to the
encoder.
The CIB-BOS board also provides a Micro-USB port that can be used to access the Boson® configuration from
a computer using a standard USB cable.
The CIB-BOS board plugs directly into the body of the Boson®camera, without extensions, to convert the
board-to-board connector system used by the FLIR®Boson®into either a wire-to-board connector compatible
with the FlexIO system or a KEL micro-coaxial cable. This allows a short cable connected between the
encoder and the camera to power the camera and to enable the full functionality of the Boson®.

PHYSICAL
The CIB-BOS board is 21x26mm. It mounts directly onto the body of the FLIR®Boson®camera with J1 facing
the camera.
The CIB-BOS interface board should be secured to the body of the FLIR®Boson®by 4 screws through the
screw holes located on each corner of the board.
CONNECTIONS
4.1 Connection to the FLIR®Boson®2, J1
The J1 connector on the CIB-BOS interface board is a 80-pin high density Hirose connector which will
mate directly with the Primary I/O Connector on the FLIR®Boson®camera. In addition to retrieving
digital and analog video from the camera, this connector provides the FLIR® Boson® with power and
serial connectivity.
Please refer to the “FLIR®Boson®Engineering datasheet” document for the pin assignments on the Boson
camera. The FLIR document is available directly from the FLIR®support web site.

4.2 Connection to the DCK encoder, J3 and J4
The CIB-BOS board connects to the Z3 Technology DCK encoder system via connector J3 or J4.
The J3 connector header placed on the CIB-BOS board is a 30-pin header from JST, part number BM30B-
SRDS-G-TF. It is designed to connect to the same connector on multi-channel capable versions of the Z3
DCK encoder product line, such as the FV2K-DCK-13 and FV4K-DCK-15.
The J4 connector is a KEL micro-coaxial connector part number USL00-30L. It is meant to connect to the
KEL connector on HD versions of DCK systems.
This connection mode is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 4K ENCODER SYSTEMS.
Please be sure to ONLY USE KEL CABLES PROVIDED OR APPROVED BY Z3 TECHNOLOGY.
NOTE:Connecting J4 to a 4K capable encoder will likely cause permanent damage to the encoder,
Boson camera and CIB-BOS board.
NOTE: Connecting J4 to the encoder using a non-approved KEL cable will likely cause permanent
damage to the encoder, Boson camera and CIB-BOS board.
Both J3 and J4 connectors carry LVDS digital and video from the camera to the encoder, power from the
encoder to the camera and bi-directional serial communication for camera control.

CVBS
▪FLEX_VCC is power coming from the encoder, used to power the circuits in the CIB-FT2 board and the
Tau®2 camera. The CIB-FT2 expects clean DC power with voltage between 6.5V and 16V.
The DCK encoder system will provide +12V power on these pins.
▪ENC_SERIAL_TX and ENC_SERIAL_RX are the serial port connections for camera control. The TX is the
serial output from the encoder to the camera, and the RX is the input to the encoder from the
camera.
The CIB-FT2 board drives the ENC_SERIAL_RX pin with 5V TTL level, and expects H level of the
ENC_SERIAL_TX signaling to be anywhere between 3.0V and 5.25V.
▪CVBS is the analog video signal, NTSC or PAL compliant.
4.3 USB jack, J4
The CIB-FT2 board has a micro-USB jack that allows a USB computer to power and access the camera
controls. This is used, for example, to configure the Tau®2 camera using the FLIR®control GUI software
running on a PC.

When there is power on the USB bus the CIB-FT2 board switches the control of the Tau®2 camera to the
USB bus. The CIB-FT2 board will appear to the host computer as a serial port implemented by a Silicon
Labs CP2104 USB to Serial Converter chip. After loading the proper driver, pointing the FLIR®GUI to the
assigned COM port will enable communication.
Power from the USB bus is also used to power the Tau®2 camera, so no additional power sources are
required.
The source of control for the camera is determined by the presence of power on the USB bus.
When power is not present on the USB bus the CIB-FT2 board will power itself and the camera from the
FlexIO bus via J2 or J3. Serial communications for camera control are also routed to J2 or J3.
When power is present on the USB bus, the CIB-FT2 will route the serial communications to the USB host,
and therefore the communications path though J2 or J3 will not be active.
4.4 Composite video jack, J5
The J5 jack on the CIB-FT2 board is a composite video output, with NTSC or PAL video as selected by the
camera configuration.
J5 is a MCX type jack.
Because the Tau®2 camera only provides one video stream, the same signal that is used to drive J5 is
also connected to the CVBS pins of J2 and J3. Since analog video requires a 75 Ohm termination, only
one of the three outputs can be connected at any given time.
