ZelGear Igla-2 User manual

Inflatable kayak with elements of frame
«Igla-2»
INSTRUCTION ON KAYAK ASSEMBLY
Purpose
Each side consists of two separate longitudinal elements. This provides extra rigidity, better contours
and greater internal volume of the kayak. Due to rather narrow sides, prominent bow and length, this
kayak in its feature is closer to frame kayaks.
Kayak "Igla" is quick-running, narrower compared with other inflatable kayaks and elegant. You will
spend a minimum of efforts and time for its assembly/disassembly. What you have to do is simply
unroll the kayak, pump it and it is possible to hit the trail. Inflatable kayak with the elements of frame
"Igla-2" is designed for camping trips and trips in the daytime on the rivers, lakes, reservoirs, coastal
part of seas and oceans.

About Materials used in your kayak
We care about quality of our products and used best possible materials to make sure our kayaks will
give you long and mostly care-free service.
The Igla-2 is constructed from high quality, water- and airproof technical fabric HeyTex 850 g/m2.
YKK hardware, Scoprega nipples, pressure relief valves and pumps.
Assembly
Remove the boat and components from packaging. Unroll kayak on a flat surface.
.
The skeg should be instulled BEFORE you start
inflating the boat
! Make sure that all safety (pressure relief) valves are
in "Open" position, then inflate the main-tubes and
the bottom to required pressure; keep pumping the
air until safety valves start working which is easily
indicated by the sound of escaping air.
Install the inflatable seat. Adjust the seat back.
Fix knee supports according to your
convenience

Please, install the seat according to this scheme:
1 - fixing loops (please, slip on back’s elastic through them)
2, 3 - bracings of the back
4 - knee straps carbines
5 - stretching back to the carbines
6 - restrictive belt
Terms of use:
Since the internal pressure in the tubes may decrease depending on water temperature and load, after
20-30 minutes on a water, it is recommended to check the pressure and pump more air into the tubes if
needed.
To prevent excessive abrasion wear of the hull and the tubes, it is recommended to regularly wash out
sand and dirt before deflating kayak at the end of each use.
Even though the materials used for Needle-3 tubes have very good UV-resistance, no material is
completely impervious to UV radiation, so please apply 303 aerospace protectant periodically ( at least
1-2 times a season, more often if your boat gets a lot of sunlight exposure) to better protect your boat
and keep it in great shape.
Packaging and storage of kayak
After using the kayak, clean it from sand and dirt and wipe with a dry cloth. After each trip, Needle-2
must be thoroughly dried before it is ready to be stored away for a prolonged period of time.
Water itself will not damage the materials, but may invite the aggressive mold. It can also slowly
degrade the quality of seams in kayak's seats. When kayak is clean and dry, open the valve covers,
push the knob and let the boat deflate.
Remove the skeg and pack it separately. After that fold the kayak in half lengthwise. Begin to fold the
kayak from the stern. Valves should be open.
Please, be care in folding the kayak on sharp area (e.g. on concrete) . Don’t step on valves, they can
be damaged.
Put kayak into a large container and tighten straps.

It is better to store the kayak indoors, in dry room at above-zero temperature.
Kayak should not be touched during storage at below-zero temperature.
Small Repairs of hull damages / punch holes.
Repairs should be carried out at a temperature not lower than + 16 °C ( 60 F). Coincidentally, this
lowest temperature is the optimal one.
After repair is done, your kayak can be back in water in just 15 minutes, but for the best repair results,
whenever possible, please give the adhesive 12 hours to completely cure.
Repair (patching) procedure:
Thoroughly dry the damaged area. Prepare a patch of the supplied repair material, the size of the patch
should overlap the damaged area by 25 mm ( 1 inch) in all directions. Round the edges of the patch.
Soak a piece of cloth in Acetone and rub both the patch and the corresponding damaged area with it.
(However, please be careful not to break down the integrity of polymer layer of the fabric by using
sandpaper or similar mechanical means.)
Mark the location of the patch on the repaired area. Apply one coat of the supplied adhesive
(Desmokoll) on both surfaces. In 5 -10 minutes after applying a layer of adhesive, patch should be
pressed hard to the marked damaged area and immediately rolled over multiple times with a roller tool
or suitable circular object - on a hard flat surface.
If possible, it is better to heat the patch with a heat gun to approximately 60-70 C ( 150 F) to re-
activate the adhesive. With no access to heat gun, a metal can with hot water can be used.
Note: It is dangerous and strictly prohibited to use open fire for re-heating purpose.
Safety requirements and recommendations.
Remember that kayaking can be dangerous and can cause serious injury. Paddlers are responsible for
obtaining the relevant instructions on paddling skills, safety on the water, on how to behave in
emergency situations and how to provide first aid.
Common sense suggests that any boater must be able to swim, regardless of wearing PFD or not. No
matter how long is you run and how difficult it is, please always carry the safety equipment in your
kayak: first aid kit, air pump, spare paddle.
We cannot emphasize it enough that safety must be always put first.
It is your responsibility - please take it very seriously and very personally
And then: enjoy the ride!
