EMI/RFIWARNING
RADIOWAVE SOURCES MAYAFFECTPOWERED MOBILEVEHICLECONTROL.
Electromagnetic(EMI) or RadioFrequencyInterference(RFI)referstotheeffectsthat outside sources of
suchenergymight haveonthecontrolsystemsofyour mobilityvehicle.Theinterference fromthese
sources couldcausethevehicletorelease itsbrakes,movebyitself,and/orcausedamage tothe mobility
vehiclecontroller.
Thesources of EMI/RFIcanbebroadlyclassified intothreetypes:
•Handheldportabletransceiverswithantennamounteddirectlyonthetransmittingunit. Examples
include:citizensbandradios(CB), “walkietalkies”, security,fireand policetransceivers,cellular
telephones, andotherpersonalcommunicationdevices.
•Mediumrange mobiletransceivers. These usuallyhavethe antenna mountedoutsideof avehicle
or abuilding.Examplesinclude:police,fire,ambulanceandtaxireceivers.
•Longrange transmittersand receivers,such as commercialbroadcast transmitters(radioandTV
broadcastantenna towers)andamateur(HAM) radios.
Note:Sofarasweknow,othertypesofhandhelddevices, suchascordless phones, laptop
computers,AM/FMradios, TV sets,CDplayersandcassetteplayersand smallappliancessuch
aselectricshaversandhairdryersarenotlikelytocauseEMI/RFIproblemstoyourmobility
vehicle.
SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
Thefollowing aresomeprecautionsyoucantaketoreduce theriskof amobilityvehiclefrombeing affected
byEMI/RFI.
1.Donot turnonoruse handheldpersonal communicationdevices, such as citizensbandradios
(CB) and cellularphones whileyourvehicleisturnedon.
2.Beawareofnearbytransmitters,such as TVor radiostationsandtrytoavoidcoming closetothem.
3.Beawarethat addingaccessoriesand/or components, ormodifyingyour mobilityvehicleinany
way,may changeitsEMI/RFIresistancelevel, thusmakingitmoresusceptibletointerference from
radiowavesources.
4.Turnoff yourmobilityvehiclebyremovingthekeyfromthekeyswitch whenyouaregettingontoor
off of yourmobilityvehicleandneverleave thekeyinthe keyswitch of anunattendedmobility
vehicle.
5.Report all incidentsofunintendedmovementor unexpectedbrake releasestoZip rMobility.

Thebatteryconditioncanbemonitoredon the batteryindicatormeterlocatedonthe tiller console, see
Figure12., Greencolorindicatesfullychargedbatteryand red color indicates thatan immediaterechargeis
necessary.Note:Tocheckthebatterystrengthduring charging,youmust first unplug thechargerpower
cordand turnthe power on toyourscooter byinsertingandturningthe keyswitch.

Stepsincharging yourbatterysafely:
(Notethat your Zip rbatterycanbe chargedon oroff-board)
1.Placethe scooter/batterynearastandardwall outlet.
2.Removekeyfromthe scooter keyswitch.
3.Confirmthatthe manualfreewheellever(yellowcap)(see Figure13.below)isinthe drive (pushed
back)position.
4.Removethe charger port coverandinsert the 3-pinoff-boardplug intothechargerport.(see
Figure14. below)
5.Plug thebatterychargerintothe walloutlet.It isrecommended thatyoucharge yourbatteries for 8
to10hours.
6.When thebatteryisfullycharged, unplugtheoff-boardplugfromthe walloutlet andthenthe3-pin
plug fromthechargerport.Replacethechargerport cover.

•Verifythat thefronttilllock isUNLOCKED
•Verifythat theseatisinthecorrect positionandissecurelylocked.
•Verifythat thesteeringtilleristightenedsecurely.
•Sitdownon yourscooter.
•Insertthe keyonlyafteryou havecompleted the abovesteps.
•Verifythat thehornandheadlightworkproperly.
•Planyourroutetoavoidnumerousinclinesandobstacles.
•Observeyoursurroundingsforothersafetyconcerns.
WARNING
•ALWAYS REMOVE THEKEYFROMTHE KEY SWITCH PRIORTOENTERINGOR
EXITINGYOUR SCOOTER. THIS WILLPREVENTSCOOTERMOVEMENTIFTHE
THROTTLE LEVERS ARE ACCIDENTALLYPRESSED.
•ALWAYS VERIFYTHATSCOOTERTILLERLOCKISUNLOCKEDBEFORE
OPERATINGSCOOTER.
•ALWAYS BRINGYOURSCOOTERTOA COMPLETESTOPBEFOREENTERINGOR
EXITINGTHE SCOOTER.
•THEZIP R3ISEQUIPPEDWITHANTI-TIPWHEELS,BUTTHE SCOOTERSHOULD
NEVEREXCEEDA CLIMBINGSLOPEOF12DEGREES.
Operating Procedures
1.Setthe speed adjustmentdialtothe desired speed (Turtle=SlowerandRabbit =Faster).
2.Press yourthumbagainsttheappropriatethrottlecontrollever(Right=ForwardandLeft
=Reverse).
3.Releasethe throttlecontrollevertodecelerateand cometoacompletestop(Note:
Thereisno externalbreakcontrol –thescooterwill cometoquickandcompletestop
when thethrottlecontrolleverisreleased).
4.Pullontheleft hand griptoturnleftandon therighthand griptoturnright.
Driving Basics
•Alwaysusecautionwhendrivingyourscooterinreverse. Notethat thereversespeedis
50%slowerthanthe forwardspeed.
•Avoidshortcuttingsidewalkcornersasit can causetheback wheeltodriveoff of the
sidewalk.
•Enternarrowdrivingpaths/doorways slowlyandwithcaution and alwayslookoutfor
additionalobstaclessuchascarmirrorsordoorknobs.
•It isrecommendedthatthescooterspeedbe reducedwhendrivingdownorup hills.
•Avoidobstacleshigherthan1inchasthismaycausedamagetoyourscooter.

Therefore, thebodycan becleanedlikeacar(coolwaterandmildsoaptoremove
dirt/oils).DONOTSPRAY THE ENTIRE SCOOTERWITHWATERASTHIS WILL

Anexcessiveamount ofvoltage hasbeen applied tothe controller.Thisisusuallycaused
byapoorbatteryconnection. Checkconnectionsand turnkeyoff and on.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Aswithanyelectromechanicaldevice,electricscootersmayoccasionallyrequiretroubleshooting.
Manyofsuchissuescanberesolvedbyreferring tothe optionsbelow.
Ifthevehiclewillnotmove,pleasechecktoensurethefollowing:
•The batteryboxisinserted fullyand correctly.
•The brakereleaselever(freewheellever)isinthe driveposition (rearposition).
•The batteryischarged.
•The keyisintheignitionand turnedon.
Ifthescooterhas power butdoesnotmove,please checktoensurethefollowing:
•The scootermayhavebeenleftinfreewheelmode(brakereleaseleverinforward
position).Ifthisisthe casethen removeyourkeyfromthe ignition, pushthefree-wheel
levertothedriveposition(rearposition),and thenreinsertyourkeyintotheignition and
turnthe scooteron.
Ifthebatterydoesnotseemtohold achargeorthemotor surges/hesitateswhen
thethrottleispressed, then:
•Fullycharge yourscootersbattery(seesection “BatteryCharging”).
•Removethebatterycasecover(viaremovingphilipsscrews)and replacefuseinside.
•A loadtestshouldbeconducted oneachbattery.
Ifthereseemstobenopowerto your scooter, thenchecktoensurethefollowing:
•The batteryboxiscorrectlyseated andpressedintoposition. Presseachendof the
batteryintoitsseat.Checkthe qualityandstabilityofmaleand femalepowerplugs.
•Verifythat thebatteryhasbeenfullycharged (seesection “BatteryCharging”).
•Pushthemaincircuitbreakerreset button(see section “YourZip r3 “).
•Removethebatterycasecover(viaremovingphilipsscrews)and replacefuseinside.
SelfDiagnosticWarningLight(TroubleShooting LEDIndicator)
YourscooterisequipedwithaSelf-DiagnosticWarningLight, alsocalledTroubleShooting
IndicatorLight llocated ontheDashAssemblyControls(seetheYourZipr3section).Tocheck
the Self-DiagnosticWarningLight,turnonthekeyandcountthenumberof flashesonthe
Warning Light and refertothe chartbelow. IftheLEDindicatorblinkscontinouslywithout
stopping butthescooteroperateappropriatelythenthisisawarningthatthebatterywill
soon needafull charge.

shipping costsandotherchargesincurredforrepairof theproduct.
Thereisno otherexpresswarranty.Implied warranties, includingthoseofmerchantabilityand
fitnessforaparticularpurpose,arelimited toone (1)yearfromthedateoforiginalpurchaseand
