Instructions for Stove Top™ Water Heater 5110 & 6190
800-589-2849 www.zodi.com
SET-UP
1. Select a clean flat surface clear of leaves or other flammable materials. An area protected from wind is best. Securely
position Stove Top water heater on stove grate above gas burner(s) see photo 1. Keep hoses away from stove burners and
hot areas. Make sure Stove Top is positioned so flame is at least 1 inch away from any housing wall. It may be necessary to
turn down gas valve and reposition Stove Top to keep flame safely harnessed within heater housing.
2. Load 4 “NEW” Energizer
™
D-cell alkaline batteries into battery case. Check pump operation by holding pump in hand
while pushing red ON/OFF button on battery case. If pump fails to operate check that batteries are good and correctly
installed, then turn pump switch OFF. If pump still fails, remove batteries and bend battery contacts upward to ensure good
contact. Squeeze any kinks from all hoses (low water flows are usually due to weak batteries).
PUMPING WATER
1. With pump switched OFF, carefully submerge entire pump in water source (we suggest using a water bucket or the Zodi
case). If your carry case is punctured or torn, use a plastic bag inside the case to serve as a waterproof liner. Push the red
ON/OFF button switch on battery case to ON to establish water flow from shower head. If using a water container, place
shower head in container to conserve water. Water should flow from shower head in 20 seconds, if not, check for a kinked
pump hose or shower hose. If water still fails to spray, release vapor by applying suction to the shower head. Do not remove
pump from water when heater is on. See optional garden hose adapter at www.zodi.com to use heater without pump.
NOTE - In natural water sources DO NOT place the pump directly on sandy river or lake bottom. Place the pump on top of
pebbles or rocks. Place small rock on hose near pump to prevent tides from pushing pump onto shore (make sure rock does
not pinch hose). In silty water place pump inside sock. Clean pump by removing pump cap.
HEATING
1. AFTER cold water is flowing from Stove Top water heater shower head, safely ignite burner on your gas stove. Water
MUST be flowing from Stove Top shower head BEFORE igniting stove. Keep hands, face and clothing clear of system during
ignition and heating periods. In windy conditions, shield stove from wind. Water must always be flowing from shower head
when heater is on. Adjust gas valve to keep flame at least 1 inch away from any housing wall.
DO NOT HEAT INDOORS. DO NOT IGNITE HEATER INSIDE TENTS, RVs, HOMES OR OTHER CONFINED AREAS.
CAUTION: SYSTEM GETS HOT. KEEP CHILDREN CLEAR WHEN OPERATING. USE ONLY OUTDOORS IN WELL
VENTILATED AREAS. THIS DEVICE GENERATES CARBON MONOXIDE WHEN OPERATING. THIS DEVICE GETS
VERY HOT WHEN OPERATING. IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. ZODI OUTBACK GEAR LLC
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROPER USE.
NOTE - DO NOT TURN OFF WATER PUMP OR REMOVE WATER PUMP FROM WATER WHEN HEATER IS ON OR
SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. WATER MUST ALWAYS BE FREELY FLOWING FROM SHOWER HEAD WHEN
HEATER IS ON. IF WATER PRESSURE DROPS OR WATER TEMPERATURE SUDDENLY INCREASES DURING USE,
IMMEDIATELY POINT SHOWER HEAD AWAY FROM BODY AND SAFELY TURN OFF PROPANE HEATER. IGNITE
ONLY AFTER PROPER WATER FLOW HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.
2. Allow system to operate for 1 minute before checking water temperature. If water is too hot, turn down propane valve on
gas stove, wait another 30 seconds and re-check water temperature. If water is not hot enough adjust gas valve or recycle
water in container by placing the shower head in the same water container as the pump. In only a minute or two, the water
spraying from the shower head will be a comfortable temperature. Adjust temperature with shower head in the position you
wish to use it, the water temperature will change slightly upon raising or lowering the shower head. Under certain conditions
you can obtain hotter water by turning gas valve down.
SHOWERING
1. The Stove Top water heater is now ready for showering or cleaning up. The shower hose is extra long for your
convenience. Stand a safe distance away from the stove during showering periods. Do not allow water to spray on Stove Top
water heater or stove. Never have the shower hose so tight that it may cause the Stove Top water heater to reposition on
stove or stove to tip over. Do NOT pollute fresh water sources with soaps etc. Instead, collect water in a bucket or Zodi case
and shower safe distance away from streams. For extra privacy, use the optional self-supporting Zodi Hut Shower Enclosure
and Hands Free Shower Pole. (www.zodi.com)
NOTE - Do Not turn off water pump or remove water pump from water source when stove heater is on or serious injury may
result. Water must always be freely flowing from shower head when Stove Top water heater is positioned on stove when
stove burner is on. If water pressure drops or water temperature suddenly increases during use, immediately point shower
head away from body and safely turn off stove. Ignite stove only after proper water flow has been reestablished.
SHUTDOWN
1. To shutdown, turn off stove heater and allow water to continue flowing for 20 seconds. Shut off water pump. Allow system
to cool before handling. Be careful that carry handle is not hot. Allow water to drain from hoses and heating coil by resting
Stove Top water heater on its left side for 20 seconds. Remove batteries during off season. Prevent damage or puncture to
soft case by wrapping heater (after system has cooled) in towel before placing inside soft case.

Tips for Best Performance:
Low Water Pressure: Low water pressure is usually due to
weak or incorrectly installed batteries, vapor lock in the
heating coil, or a kinked pump hose or shower hose.
Batteries: New batteries fix virtually all low water pressure
challenges. Sometimes the battery case lid does not close
properly preventing batteries from making contact with the
switch. If new batteries are not available, apply suction to
shower head to initiate water flow (Heater must be off). Make
sure the contacts inside your battery case are making a good
connection with batteries by bending
battery contacts up inside of battery case and on battery case lid.
Vapor Lock: If pump is working, the hoses are not kinked, and
water is still not spraying from the shower head, your system is
vapor locked. Vapor lock can be released by applying suction to
the shower head while pump is on and submerged in water
(Heater must be off).
Pump Screen Filter: The pump is equipped with a removable
debris screen. Unscrew pump cap to clean debris screen. In
natural water sources keep pump clear of mud. In silty water
place pump in a sock to act as a pre-filter or use a water bucket
and allow sediment to settle before use.
Kinked Hoses: Check that pump hose and shower hose
are not kinked. Squeeze kinks from all hoses before use.
Other:
You can increase water pressure by reducing vertical
distance between water source and showerhead. If you are
using the Zodi soft case for water this can easily be accom-
plished by elevating the water case by securely placing water
case on top of ice chest or picnic table.
Condensation: The water you see dripping from the bottom of
the Hot Tap during use is normal, this is condensation and will
occur every time the heater is on.
Low Water Temperature: The Stove top is designed for
average input water of 50°F, but your Stove Top will easily heat
ice cold water. For use with colder water, fill a water container
with water and place pump and shower head in the same
container (see Photo 3 Page 4). Turn on the pump and after water
is flowing from the shower head ignite propane burner
(follow directions on page 4). Allow the warm water to recycle
for a few minutes until the water spraying from the shower head
reaches a comfortable temperature. Under normal conditions,
recycling is not needed, but by using this tip you can enjoy a hot
shower regardless of starting water temperature.
New batteries will temporarily provide higher water pressure from
the pump. After 15 minutes the flow will reduce slightly and the
water temperature will be greater. If you are using the garden
hose adapter adjust water pressure so you get 1 gallon of water
from the shower head in 2 min 30 sec.
Other Tips: For best results use only full cylinders of propane
stored at room temperature for your stove. Cold or near empty
propane cylinders will cause heater to perform poorly.
Water Hosed: Keep hoses clear of hot surfaces
Other Tips: The Stove Top Pro water heater model #5110 is
designed for a larger 35,000 BTU stoves. Zodi Model 6190 is
designed to use on twin burner style camp stoves. For best
performance shield stove from wind.
To prevent damage to your fabric carry case, allow the stove top
to cool and then wrap it in a towel before placing in storage bag.
If your storage bag becomes torn or punctured place a plastic
bag inside the case to act as a waterproof liner.
Always keep stove top centered above burner with flames at
least 1 inch away from any housing wall. Turn down gas valve if
needed.
Please read this information before operating.

During First Use it is common to see small amounts of smoke rising from heater. This is the oil on the metal burning off. This
condition should lessen after 10 to 20 minutes use. If smoke is heavy turn down gas valves.
Water must be flowing from Hot Tap heater before igniting propane burner. Water must always be flowing from shower head
when propane burner(s) are heating. Stove Top must be centered over flame at all times.
If water pressure drops, or water temperature increases, immediately point shower head away from body and safely turn off
Stove Top until proper water pressure is regained.
Check that all hoses are free of kinks. Most kinks occur during storage or immediately after use when the hoses are warm. Do
not ignite heater with kinks in pump hose or shower hose.
Use only outdoors in well ventilated areas away from flammable material. Do not use in confined areas or in areas without
proper ventilation. Do not use in tents.
For maximum performance use Stove Top Pro model #5110 with 35,000 BTU High-Output stoves. When using with smaller
twin burner style stoves, use Zodi Stove Top model #6190.
System is designed to fit on top of grate of gas stoves. Adjust gas valve(s) so flame is harnessed inside housing and at least 1
inch away from any housing wall. Housing walls will discolor and darken with use, especially if gas valves are adjusted to high.
System not designed to heat water over 100°. System not designed to heat water for consumption.
Allow Hot Tap system to cool before handling. Do not place any items including towels, soap and shampoo on system.
Keep children and pets clear when operating. Do not leave system unattended when operating.
If gas valve is adjusted too high dark spots will appear on housing wall or flames may appear near exhaust holes on top cover
- turn gas valves down.
When heater is on, small water drops caused by condensation will drip from bottom. This is normal, it is NOT leaking.
In colder areas, prevent freeze damage by draining water from system by resting system on side for 30 seconds, allowing
water to completely drain from coil and pump. Blowing into shower head will also remove water from coil.
Test water temperature before use. If too hot, turn down gas valve. If not hot enough recycle water as defined on page 2.
If the fabric carry case becomes torn or punctured, use a plastic bag inside the case as a waterproof liner.
If using weak batteries, it may necessary to apply suction to shower head to initiate water flow
(Heater must be off).
