General Application Notes
P-2612HNU-Fx support note is applied to both P-2612HNU-F1, and P-2612HNU-F3
models. The differences between these two models are:
ØF1 supports Annex A, and F3 supports Annex B.
ØFor F1, the DSL line connector is RJ-11, and for F3, the DSL line connector is
RJ-45.
Why use the P-2612HNU-Fx?
•Keyfeatures of theP-2612HNU-Fx
The P-2612HNU-Fx is an ADSL2+ integrated access device (IAD), which
provides high-speed ADSL Internet access in cooperation with major service
providers to meet the worldwide market requirements of triple-play services.
This model also features built-in 802.11n WLAN which allows for simple
on-site deployment without wires. Two lines of telephony service are provided
using VoIP technology with SIP signaling protocol. Additionally, the device
incorporates dual WAN functionality, suitable for Switch/DSLAM or WiMax
users. Users mayalso leverage the build-in USB interface for file sharing.
ŸDual WAN to Simplify the Logistics for ISP
When a customer migrates from ADSL2+ to Switch/DSLAM or WiMax, the ISP
only needs to install a simple and relatively cheap bridge-device terminating
the physical connection, and providing an Ethernet-interface for the customer.
The customer’s existing CPE will still be used for terminating the IP-connection
but now via the Ethernet WAN-interface. In most cases, the end-users can still
utilize their original CPE, rather than having to change their CPE when
migrating to a different physical connection.
ŸADSL2+ functionality
The P-2612HNU-Fx series supportsdual-mode functionality that enables
service providers to support ATM on the same device. It offers high speed

ADSL connection with speeds up to 24/1Mbps over an ADSL2+, ADSL2, or ADSL
connection in ATM mode. This powerful feature ensures the service provider
can support connectionsnot only on the IP network but also on the legacy
ATM network without changing the CPE.
ŸQuality of Service (QoS)
The P-2612HNU-Fx series comes equipped with both ATM and IP QoS features.
The service provider can base its QoS policy on the service plan to freely
design and prioritize mission-critical services such as IPTV and VoIP. This
increases the network efficiency and productivity to enable the service
provider to bring real multi-play into residential user’s life.
ŸTR-069 Remote Management
With TR-069 standard management specifications, theservice provider is
able to manage and configure the client devices remotely without end-user’s
manual intervention. This unique feature not only offers user truly
“plug-and-play” experience but also reducesthe complexity of deployment
and therefore saves service provider’s operating and maintenance costs.
•PPP over Ethernet
Since PPPoE benefitsboth Telco’s and ISPs, the P-2612HNU-Fx implements
this feature and has tested it thoroughlywith PPPoE servers.
•NAT
NAT provides system administrators with an easy solution to create a private
IP network for security and IP management. Powered by NAT technology, the
P-2612HNU-Fx supports complete NAT mapping and most popular Internet
multimedia applications, such as NetMeeting, MSN Messenger, Skype, ICQ,
IPTV, QuickTime, Real Player (RSP/RTSP), VoIP SIP ALG, etc.

line and you have another broadband modem or router (such as ADSL) available,
user can push the DSL/WAN switch (on the rear panel) to the WAN side and connect
the WAN port to the broadband modem or router. This way, you can access the
Internet via an Ethernet connection and still use the QoS, Firewall and VoIP functions
of the ZyXEL Device. The P-2612HNU-Fx serves as a home gateway, providing high
speed Internet service and High Quality IPTV service.
Internet Connection
A typical Internet access application of the P-2612HNU-Fx is shown below. For a
small office,some components need to be checked before accessing the Internet.
•Before we begin.
The device is shipped with the following factory defaults:
1. IP address = 192.168.1.1, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 (24 bits).
2. DHCP server enabled with IP pool starting from 192.168.1.33.
3. Default user’s username/password = user/1234.
•Setting up the PC (Windows OS).
1. Ethernet Connection
•All PCs must have an Ethernet adapter card installed.

You must first install the TCP/IP software on each PC before you can use it for the
Internet access. If you have already installed the TCP/IP protocol, go to the next
section to configure it; otherwise, follow these steps to install:
•In the ControlPanel/Networkwindow, click Addbutton.
•In the Select Network Component Type windows, select Protocol and click
Add.
•In the Select Network Protocol windows, select Microsoft from the listof
manufacturers, then select TCP/IP from the Network Protocols and clickOK.
3. TCP/IP Configuration
Follow these steps to configure Windows TCP/IP:
•In the Control Panel/Network window, click the TCP/IP entry to select it and
clickProperties button.
•In the TCP/IP Properties window, select obtain an IP address automatically.
Note: Do not assign any arbitrary IP address and subnet mask to your PCs;otherwise,
you will not be able to access the Internet.
•Click theWINSconfiguration tab and select DisableWINS Resolution.
•Click the Gateway tab. Highlight any installed gateways and click the Remove
button until there are none listed.
•Click the DNS Configuration tab and select Disable DNS.
•ClickOK to save and close the TCP/IP properties window.
•Click OK to close the Network window. You will be prompted to insert your
Windows CD or disk. When the drivers are updated, you will be asked if you
want to restart the PC. Make sure that your Device is powered on before
answering “Yes” to the prompt. Repeat the aforementioned steps for each
Windows PC on your network.

Access Application Notes
Web GUI
The following procedure describes the most typical operation of the device using a
browser. The device features an embedded Web server that allows you to use Web
browser to configure it. Please make sure there is no Telnet or Console loginsession
before configuring the router using a browser.
-Accessing the Prestige Web
Please enter the LAN IP address of the Prestige router in the URL location to retrieve
the web screen from the device. The default LAN IP of the device is 192.168.1.1. See
the example below.

-Log into the P-2612HNU-Fx via Web GUI.
1. Set up your PC/NB IP address to be a DHCP client.
2. Connect to a LAN port of P-2612HNU-Fx via RJ45 Ethernet cable and open
your Web browser.
3. The default IP of P-2612HNU-Fx is 192.168.1.1
Username/password = admin/1234 or user/1234.

Application Scenario
The following example demonstrates a Triple Play service configuration running Data,
VoIP and IPTV. The step by step guide beneath the following scenario illustration will
take you through the setup of the WAN Interface, NAT Port forwarding (using FTP
service to demonstrate Data service), VoIP configuration (to demonstrate VoIP
service), Quality of Service and WLAN setting (to demonstrate WPS setup).
We will use ADSL WAN mode as an example to start the illustration. The following
figure is a simplified overall scenario diagram of WAN interface configuration.
ADSL 2+ WANMode
In the ADSL WAN mode, we will set up 2 WAN interfaces for Data/IPTV, and VoIP
services. Based on the current implementation, the IPTV service will go through the
Data WAN interface in routing mode.
1. Select “ADSL (ATM)” mode to create the Data WAN interface.

2. Go to Network > WAN > Layer 2 Interface and click “Add” to add a new
Layer2 interface.
3. Configure the PVC parameters (VPI/VCI). In this example, set 0/33.
4. Pleaseselect“EoA” for PPPoE, IPoE, and Bridge DSL Link Type.
5. Select“Default mode” in the Connection mode setting.
6. Pleaseset“Encapsulation Mode” to”UBR with PCR” for Data and IPTV
service for medium priority.

7. ClickApply/Save.
8. Please repeat step 1-5 to create the second Layer2 Interface. Select “CBR
with cell rate 170” this time.
After completion, you will see two Layer2 interfaces as shown in the following screen
shot.

Having configured the two WAN interfaces, the next step is to set up the WAN
internet Connection for the required services.
Please note that the device has automatically assigned Layer2 interfaces for the 2
PVCs just created. They are nas1, and nas2 by order of creation.
9. Go to Network > WAN > Internet Connection and select“Add”. Choose nas1
for Data/IPTV WAN internet connection.

10. Click on “Next” to proceed to the next step.
11. Select “IPoE” as the WAN Service Type. When IPoE is selected as the WAN
service type, the Data/IPTV WAN interface will obtain the IP either
dynamically, or from the DHCP server.
The P-2612HNU-Fx series offers a choice of PPPoE, IPoE or Bridge WAN service types.
12. Select “Obtain an IP address automatically”option to get the IP dynamically
from the DHCP server. Enable “NAT” for traffic from LAN clients to go to
Internet, and “IGMP Multicast Proxy” for IPTV multicast traffic.

13. Click“Next”.
14. Select the WAN Interface “Data_IPTV/nas1 (Data_IPTV WAN interface)” as
the default gateway.
Please note that it is crucial to select the correct WAN interface as the device’s
default gateway. The primary reason is that NAT service is enabled on the Data_IPTV
WAN interface.
For the IGMP Multicast and NAT service, there will be a detailed introduction
following the WAN configuration.

15. Select “Obtain DNS info dynamically”.
16. Proceed to ”Next” and save the configuration.
Upon completion, you will see the Data_IPTV WAN internet connection set up.

The next step is to configure the VoIP WAN internet connection for the VoIP service.
17. Click“Add” to add the VoIP WAN internet connection.
For the VoIP server, we will use IPoE WAN service type with Static IP assignment to
demonstrate how to configure static IP.

gateway for the VoIP WAN service , continue the setup by clicking “Next”.
