Testing
Beforemountingthedetector,ensurethatthePIRmountinglocation
providesgoodRFcommunicationtothepanel.Toverify,dothefollowing:
1FromtheInstallerToolbox,selectwalktest.
2PlacetheamagnetoverthearrowontheleftsideofthePIR,(the
detector’sLEDindicatesthatamagnethasbeendetected)andthen
removethemagnet(amagnetisnotsupplied).
3PlacethePIRinthelocationthatyouplanonmountingit.
4MoveintheareathatistobecoveredbythePIRandmakesurethat
theLEDonthePIRflasheseverytimeyoumove.TheLEDflashing
continuesfor1minutesoyoucancheckthePIRbeamcoverage.
NOTE: Thereisa3‐seconddelaybetweenflashesontheLED.
IMPORTANT: Thefollowingcancauseafalsealarmwhentesting:
•Leavingthecoveroff
•Removingjumpers
• PositioningthePIRindirectsunlightorcloseproximitytoaheatingor
anairconditioningduct
5Exitinstallertoolbox.
Inserting and Replacing Batteries
IfasupervisedPIRbatteryislow,alowbatterynotificationisindicatedon
theControlPanel’stouchscreen.Ifindicated,replacethebattery
immediately.Useonlytherecommendedreplacementbatteries(See
Specifications).
•Removebackcoverbyunscrewingbottomscrewandpullbackcover
frombottomtotop.Observethepolarityofthebattery.SeeFigure2.
WARNING: Improperhandlingoflithiumbatteriesmayresultinheat
generation,explosionorfire,resultinginpersonalinjuries.
Replaceonlywiththesameorequivalenttypeofbatteryas
recommendedbythemanufacturer(seeSpecifications).
Batteriesmustnotberecharged,disassembledordisposedofinfire.
Disposalofusedbatteriesmustbemadeinaccordancewiththe
wasterecoveryandrecyclingregulationsinyourarea.KeepAway
FromSmallChildren.Ifbatteriesareswallowed,promptlyseek
medicalattention.

Installing and Mounting
RemovethescrewfromthebottomofthecaseandopenthePIR(see
Figure1).
1Installthe3VLithiumbatteryfromthebox.
2Settheleftjumper(PETIMMUNITY)toeither33lbs.(15kg)or55lbs.
(25kg;default).(seeFigure2)
3Settherightjumper(SENSITIVITY)toeitherLO(default)orHI(see
Figure2).
4Pressandreleasethetamperswitchtobeginthepowerupprocess.
5Wait10secondsforthePIRtofullypowerup.

Mounting the PIR with the bracket (see Figure 2)

3Mounttheselectedbracket(CorD)ataheightof7.5ft(2.3m).on
thewallusingthesuppliedlongscrewswithanchors.
4PlacetheassemblyofpartsAandBontheshaftofbracketCorD.
5ScrewaPhillipsheadscrewwithwasherintothetopofparBtohold
theassemblytotheshaftofbracketCorD.
6AttachthemainbodyofthePIRtothemountedbackwithascrewat
thebottomofthecase.
Mounting the PIR without bracket (see Figure 3)
1Forcornermountingusethesuppliedlongscrewswithanchorsand
mountthePIRcasebackusingeithertherighttwocornermount
screwholes(A)orthelefttwocornermountscrewholesandmount
thePIRbackataheightof7.5ft.(2.3m).Attachthemainbodyofthe
PIRtothemountedbackwiththescrewatthebottomofthePIR.
2FormountingthePIRonaflatwallusethe
suppliedlongscrewswithanchorsandmount
thePIRcasebackusingthe2wallmountscrew
holesinthecenterofthebackandmountthe
backataheightof7.5ft.(2.3m).Attachthe
mainbodyofthePIRtothemountedbackwith
thescrewatthebottomofthePIR.
Using the PIR with Pets
Totakefulladvantageofthepetimmunityfeatures,dothefollowing:
1EnsurethatthePIRismounted7.5‐8feetabovefloorlevel.
2Settherightjumper(SENSITIVITY)tolow(default).
3Ensurethattheleftjumper(PETIMMUNITY)issettoyourpet’s
weight.
4DonotaimthePIRatstairsorfurniturethatyourpetcouldclimbon.
NOTE: ThePIRprovidesimmunitytofalsealarmsforanindividual
animaloragroupofanimalswhosetotalweightisequaltoorless
than55poundswhentheroomtemperatureisabove50°Fand
below90°F.Ifyouusedtheoptionalmountingbracket,ensurethat
thePIRismountedwithNOtilt.
Environmental and other Useful Information
WhilethePIRisahighlyreliableintrusiondetectiondevice,itdoesnot
guaranteeagainstburglary.Anyintrusiondeviceissubjecttocompromiseof
failuretowarnforavarietyofreasons.Considerthefollowingwheninstalling
thePIRforthefirsttimeorwhenyouaretroubleshooting:
1ThisPIRhasbuilt‐inprotection,thatkeepsbugsfromgettingintothe
sensorareaandcausingfalsealarms.Thisdoesnotpreventinsects
fromcrawlingacrossthelensofthePIR,whichcouldtriggerthePIR.
2Infraredenergycanbereflectedoffanyglossysurfacessuchas
mirrors,windows,floorsorcountertopswithglossyfinish,andslick
finishedconcrete.Somesurfacesreflectlessthanothers.For
example,thePIRcanseeachangeininfraredenergyoffofreflective
surfaceseveniftheheatorcoldsourceisnotwithinthePIRdetection
pattern.
3Windowscannotonlyreflectinfraredenergy,buttheycanalsoallow
sunlightorlightsfromcarstopassthroughtothePIR.Forexample,a
PIRcandetectaquickchangeininfraredenergyifsunlightcomes
throughawindowandshinesonahardwoodfloor.Ifthechangein
infraredenergyisquickenoughonthehardwoodfloor,thePIRcan
triggeranalarm.ThesameappliesifthePIRareaincludesawindow,
eventhoughthepatternofprotectioncannot“see”throughglass.
Lightsfromapassingcarcanalsopassthroughthewindowatnight
anddirectlyinthelensofthePIR.
4Heatingandairconditioningductsarealsoimportantbecauseifthey
blowairontoanobjectwithinthefieldofthePIR’sview,the
temperatureofthatobjectcouldchangequicklyenoughforthe
detectorto“see”achangeininfraredenergy.PIR’sCANNOTseeair
current,onlythechangeintemperatureofaphysicalobject.
5ThePIRsenseschangeintemperature;however,astheambient
temperatureoftheprotectedareaapproachesthetemperature
rangeof95°to120°F,thedetectionperformanceofthePIR
decreases.
6EnsurethattheareayouwishthePIRtocoverisfreeofobstructions
(curtains,screens,plants,etc.)thatmayblockthepatternof
coverage.
7Anythingthatcanswayormoveduetoaircurrentcancauseachange
ininfraredenergywithinthefieldsofview.Draftsfromdoorsor
windowscancausethistohappen.Plants,balloons,curtainsand
hangingbasketsshouldneverbeleftinthePIR’sfieldofview.
8DonotmountthePIRonasurfacethatallowsforanyvibration.
VibrationsnotonlycausethePIRtomovealittle,butitalsocauses
thefieldsofviewinaroomtomovewithrespectthePIR.Alittle
vibrationcancausehavocwiththePIR’sfieldofview,thusthePIR
mayseeachangeinenergyandtriggerthealarm.
9AninstallationoftenrequiresthatthePIRisaimedatthedoor.The
PIRmaydetectdoormovementbeforethedoorcontactcaninitiate
anentrydelay,causingthealarmtotrigger.IfyouinstallthePIR
facingadoor,thenwhileprogrammingthePIR,chooseanentrydelay.
10 ThePIRONLYdetectsintrusionwithinthepatternofcoverage.
11 ThePIRdoesnotprovidevolumetricareaprotection.
12 ThePIRcreatesmultiplebeamsofprotection.Intrusioncanonlybe
detectedinunobstructedareascoveredbythosebeams.
13 ThePIRcannotdetectmotionorintrusionthatoccursbehindwalls,
ceilings,floors,closeddoors,partitions,glassdoorsorwindows.
14 Tamperingwith,masking,painting,orsprayingofanymaterialonthe
PIRlensoranypartoftheopticalsystemcanimpairdetectionability.
15 ThePIR,likeotherelectricaldevices,aresubjecttocomponent
failure.EventhoughthePIR2isdesignedtolastaslongas10years,
theelectroniccomponentsaresubjecttofailure.
