Esta guía del usuario es un manual de entrenamiento y referencia. Para asegurarse el
mejor resultado de su Pupilómetro Digital PD-150, le recomendamos que lea muy detalla-
damente y siga los pasos de esta guía.

! Precaución: No desechar el aparato, como así tampoco ninguno de sus
accesorios junto con los residuos domésticos. Consulte las normas munici-
pales para la correcta eliminación. Es responsabilidad del usuario del aparato
entregarlo en un punto de recolección designado para reciclado de aparatos
eléctricos y electrónicos o comunicarse con el fabricante o el representante
autorizado del fabricante para proceder a su eliminación de una manera segura
y ecológica.
! Advertencia: Mantenga el PD-150 en ambientes frescos, secos y libres
de polvo.
! Advertencia: Mantenga siempre limpias las ventanas del paciente, para
limpiar las lentes o las ventanas, debe utilizar un papel tissue o una tela suave,
limpia y seca.
! Advertencia: No use alcohol u otras soluciones limpiadoras potentes para
limpiar las partes externas del instrumento, ventanas o pantalla, en caso con-
trario podrá dañarse alguna parte del mismo.
! Advertencia: Evitar caídas, golpes y derrames de líquidos sobre el equipo.
! Advertencia: El equipo después de su uso debe ser guardado dentro de la
funda provista.
! Advertencia: Prohibido apoyar el equipo sobre pacientes que manifiesten
a simple vista trastornos en la zona de apoyo.
El fabricante no se responsabiliza por el estado del instrumento o bien su du-
rabilidad cuando:
• El instrumento es armado, desarmado, reparado o modicado por personal o
distribuidores no autorizados.
• El instrumento no es usado de acuerdo al manual del usuario.
Componentes
1- Botón On/Off
Este botón enciende (on) y apaga (off) la unidad. Cuando se
presiona “on”, el instrumento se enciende y realiza un au-
to-test de rutina. Una vez completada la rutina, la unidad está
lista para su operación.
2- Botones Cursores de Medición
Los botones cursores de medición se presionan para ajustar
la posición de la línea Index para una precisa medición in-
terpupilar (PD) y medición pupilar Derecha/Izquierda desde
el centro de la nariz (R/L NPD). Durante el proceso de me-
dición, cada cursor debe posicionarse de tal manera que la línea Index quede sobre el
centro de la reflexión corneal de la pupila del paciente.
Nota: Cuando uno de los cursores es desplazado demasiado hacia la derecha o la izquier-
da, el display digital le mostrará “00,o” en el lado desplazado, indicando que se encuentra
fuera del rango de medición.
3- Puerto de comunicación infrarroja
A través del puerto de comunicación infrarroja la medición obtenida puede ser inmediata-
mente transmitida e impresa en una impresora o computadora personal sin la necesidad
de usar un cable de impresora.

4- Botones selectores de distancias
Estos botones son usados para modificar los datos de la medición, para obtener las me-
diciones para la corta y media distancias. Cuando la medición es obtenida, debe estar
seteado para la distancia de infinito (∞), luego ajuste con este selector para obtener los
datos de medición para la corta y media distancia.
5- Ventana del operador.
Esta es la ventana a través de la cual el operador mira el ojo del paciente.
6- Botón Print/Hold
Presionando este botón, los datos de la medición correspondiente son retenidos en el
Display Digital, no permitiendo que se cambien aunque los cursores o el dial sean cam-
biados de posición. Si presiona por segunda vez este botón, el Display Digital mostrará la
medición correspondiente de acuerdo a la posición actual de los cursores.
Presionando este botón por más de 1 (un) segundo el equipo envía los datos obtenidos
de la medición a un puerto de comunicación infrarrojo, los cuales pueden ser impresos
en una impresora.
7 - Botón Oclusor R/L
Presionando este botón una vez se ocluye el ojo izquierdo del paciente mediante el dis-
play digital, apagándose el punto luminoso donde este fija la visión. Presionando el botón
por segunda vez se repite la acción con el ojo derecho. Presionando este botón por terce-
ra vez vuelve a medición de ambos ojos.
8- Display digital exterior
El LCD’s (liquid crystal display) del PD-150 permite una rápida y fácil lectura de los datos
de medición y los íconos de operación.
9- Display de lectura interna
El display de lectura interna le permite visualizar de forma rápida, precisa
y cómoda los datos obtenidos en la medición, como asi también los íconos
de operación.
10- Apoyafrente
El apoyafrente le brinda al instrumento una mejor estabilidad, permitiendo una mayor
confianza y precisión en los datos de las mediciones obtenidas.
11- Corrector de 2 lentes
Por medio de dos niveles de corrección ocular (+1,5D, +3D), el
operador puede elegir usar o no sus anteojos al operar el instru-
mento.
12- Ventana del paciente
Esta es la ventana a través de la cual el paciente mira durante el
proceso de medición.
13- Soporte nasal
Esta característica evita problemas de movimientos, permitiendo
mediciones más exactas.
14- Tapa de batería
Esta es la tapa de acceso a la batería.
Características especiales
LED de fijación
El LED de fijación (Light Emitting Diode) dentro del PD-150 es un punto de fijación visual
para el paciente durante el proceso de medición. Este punto de fijación tiene forma circu-
lar y está continuamente encendido durante la medición. Si los cursores de medición o
el Dial selector de distancias no son movidos por aprox. 20 segundos, el LED se apagará
automáticamente. Este puede ser encendido nuevamente presionando los cursores de
medición.

Selección de nivel de luz
Esta característica le permitirá al usuario seleccionar 3 niveles diferentes
de acuerdo a su propia comodidad. Para entrar al modo de calibración de
luz siga las siguientes instrucciones: Encienda el equipo y mantenga los
botones PRINT y HOLD apretados al mismo tiempo. En el display se verá
por ejemplo: LH2 (nivel 2). Ud. verá el nivel de luz elegido anteriormente,
de la siguiente forma: Level 1; Level 2 (default); Level 3, siendo Level 1
el menos intenso y Level 3 el más intenso. Presionando el botón PRINT
Ud. podrá elegir la intensidad de acuerdo a su comodidad. Para guardar su elección en la
memoria presione R/L .
Apagado automático
Los circuitos electrónicos del PD-150 están diseñados para conservar la energía de la batería.
Luego de 20 segundos de inactividad el LED de fijación se apaga. Si la inactividad del instru-
mento continúa por un total de 1 minuto 20 segundos, la unidad se apaga completamente.
Indicador de Bajo Voltaje
El PD-150 esta provisto con un indicador de bajo voltaje para controlar el voltaje de la
batería. Este circuito especial indica el momento de cambiar la batería mostrando el ícono
( ) en el display LCD.
Instrucciones de Uso
Introducción
El nuevo Pupilómetro Digital PD-150 provee la última tecnología de medición para cal-
cular la distancia interpupilar y la distancia derecha/izquierda de la nariz a la pupila para
corta, mediana y larga distancia visual.
Operación PD-100
Para operar el PD-150 siga los siguientes pasos:
1. Presione el botón On/Off. El instrumento empieza un auto-test. Una vez el auto-test
ha sido completado con éxito, el Display mostrará las siguientes distancias pupilares:
31,0 – 62,0 – 31,0
2. Ubique la distancia en infinito (∞).
3. Ubique el apoyafrente delicadamente sobre la frente de paciente y el soporte nasal
en la nariz del paciente.
4. Ubique el selector de ojos en la posición derecha o izquierda y dígale el paciente que
mire la luz de fijación circular.
5. Mire a través de la ventana del operador y observe la luz del reflejo corneal en el cen-
tro de la córnea del paciente. Luego, mueva el cursor de medición hasta que la línea
index esté directamente sobre el centro de la luz del reflejo corneal.
6. Ubique el selector de ojos en la posición opuesta y repita el procedimiento anterior.
7. Mire el Display digital y verifique las medidas. Las mediciones derechas e izquierdas
deben ser aproximadamente iguales, y las mediciones del medio deben ser la suma de
ambas mediciones.
Selector de distancias ajustable
Luego de ser tomadas las mediciones derechas e izquierdas, las mediciones para me-
diana y corta distancia visual pueden ser obtenidas presionando los
botones de medición de distancia.
Nota: Si el botón HOLD es presionado antes que las cortas y media-
nas distancias visuales sean obtenidas, los datos de medición en le
display digital no cambiarán para reflejar las distancias visuales más
cortas.

Limpieza
Procedimientos
Limpie la superficie externa del PD-150 con un paño humedecido con agua jabonosa.
Realice los siguientes pasos:
Nota: NO use alcohol u otras soluciones fuertes para limpiar la superficie exterior, venta-
nas o pantalla de este instrumento o podrán producirse daños en el mismo.
Nota: No sumerja el PD-150 en líquido o puede causar daños al instrumento.
1- Use una tela suave humedecida con una suave solución limpiadora y limpie la superfi-
cie externa del instrumento.
2- De ser necesario, remueva cualquier residuo usando un paño humedecido con agua.
3- Para secar el exterior de instrumento, use una tela limpia y seca.
Mantenimiento
El tiempo de vida útil esperada de este producto, basado en la disponibilidad de sus re-
puestos, ha sido establecido en 10 años a partir de la fecha de su fabricación. Este equipo
no requiera mantenimiento ni calibración en su vida útil, solo se realiza el cambio de ba-
tería cuando indica que posee poca carga.
Procedimientos
Cuando la unidad indica Bajo voltaje a través del ícono ( ) en el Display Digital o la ba-
tería esta agotada y la unidad no enciende, siga los siguientes pasos:
Cambio de Batería
1- Saque la tapa de la batería.
2- Retire la batería y reemplácela con una nueva.
3- Coloque la tapa de la batería en su posición original .
Este es el único procedimiento que puede ser realizado por el usuario. Para cualquier
consulta por mantenimiento referirse a:

Garantía
Este producto esta garantizado por el fabricante por el período de un año a partir de la
fecha de compra por material defectuoso o mala mano de obra, siempre y cuando el instru-
mento haya sido usado de acuerdo al manual de instrucciones. (Nota: Los distribuidores
autorizados no deben ser considerados compradores originales).
La responsabilidad del fabricante bajo esta garantía estará a cambiar o reparar la parte de-
fectuosa o el producto a criterio del fabricante.
Esta garantía se aplica a productos nuevos y no se aplica a productos que hayan sido al-
terados en forma alguna, dañados o usados incorrectamente, mantenimiento inadecuado,
descuido de las instrucciones o instrumentos que no tengan los números de serie, o estos
se encuentren alterados o dañados. Tampoco debe esta garantía ser extendida a productos
que no hayan sido vendidos, instalados, o reparados por distribuidores o técnicos autori-
zados.
Las lámparas, bombillas, baterías, y otros elementos descartables no entran dentro de esta
garantía.
Todo reclamo bajo esta garantía debe ser realizada por escrito y dirigida al fabricante o al
distribuidor autorizado que realizó la venta original y debe ser acompañada por una copia
de la factura de venta.

El fabricante no será responsable por ningún daño, especial, incidental o consecuente de

Cambios del producto

Reclamos por daños en tránsito
La responsabilidad del fabricante cesa con la entrega del producto en buenas condiciones
a la compañía de transporte. Reclamos por pérdidas o daño en tránsito deberá realizarse
directa e inmediatamente a la compañía de transporte.
Si, una vez recibido, el exterior de paquete mostrara evidencia de manejo brusco o daño,
deberá requerirse una nota de “Recepción en mal estado” a la compañía de transporte. Si
dentro de las 48 hs. de entrega, es notado algún daño “escondido” sin evidencia de daño
exterior, deberá ser requerida a la compañía de un informe de “mercadería en mal estado”.
Este procedimiento es esencial para que el distribuidor mantenga el derecho de reclamo al
transportista.

Components
1 - On/Off Button
This button turns the unit on or off. When pressed on, the
instrument starts a self – test routine. Once this routine has
been completed, the unit is ready for operation.
2 - Measurement Slide Buttons
The Measurement Slide Buttons are pressed to adjust the
position of the Index Lines for accurate measurement of the
interpupillary distance (PD) and Right/Left Nose-to-Pupil
Distance (R/L NPD). During the measurement process,
each measurement slide is positioned so that the index line
is over the center of the corneal reflection light at the center
of the patient’s pupil.
Note: When one of the measurement slides is moved too far to the left or to the right by
pressing the respective button, the Digital Display will show “00,o” on that side of the
screen, indicating that it must be repositioned within the span signal.
3 - Infrared Communication Port
By means of this Infrared Communication Port the measurement data can be immediately
transferred to a printer or personal computer without using a standard printer cable.

4 - Distance Selecting Buttons
These buttons are used for modifying the measurement data to
reflect short and medium fixation distances. When measurement
data is obtained, they are set to infinity (∞), and then adjusted to
display the short and middle range data.
5 - Operator’s Window
This is the window through which the operator looks at the pa-
tient’s eye.
6 - Print/Hold Button
By pressing this button the current measurement data is retained
on the Digital Display, not allowing it to change even if the Measurement Slide Buttons or
the Distance Selecting Buttons are pressed. If pressed a second time the data is released
and can be modified.
Pressing this button for 1(one) second, the equipment sends the information obtained
from the measurement to an infrared port of communication, which can be printed in a
printer.
7 - Occluder Button R/L
Pressing this button once, the left eye of the patient becomes occluded by the digital dis-
play, going out the luminous point where the patient fix the vision. Pressing the button for
the second time the action repeats itself with the right eye. Pressing this button for third
time it returns to measurement of both eyes.
8 - Digital Liquid Crystal Display
The PD 150’s improved LCD screen allows a quick and clear view of the measurement
data and operation symbols.
9 - Display of Internal Reading
The display of internal reading allows display of fast, accurate and comfor-
table data obtained in the measurement, as well as the icons of operation.
10 - Forehead Rest
The Forehead Rest provides the instrument with a better stability, allowing for more relia-

11 - Lens Power Selector
By means of its two levels of ocular power for enhancing the operator’s view of the pupil,
the PD 100 provides accurate interpupillary distance measurements.
12 - Patient’s Window
This is the window through which the patient looks during the measurement process.
13 - Nose Support
This feature avoids problems of side movements, allowing for more accurate measure-
ments.
14 - Battery Lid
This lid provides access to the battery.
Special Characteristics
Fixation LED
The Fixation LED (Light Emitting Diode) inside the PD-150 is a visual target for the patient
during the measurement process. This target has a circular shape and is continuously on du-
ring the measurement. If the Measurement Slide Buttons or the Distance Selecting Buttons
are not pressed for approx. 20 seconds the LED will automatically turn off. It can be turned
on again by pressing the Measurement Slide Buttons or the Distance Selecting Buttons.

Selecting light level
This feature will allow the user to select 3 different levels according
to his own visual comfort. In order to enter the light calibration mode
follow this instructions:
Turn on the equipment and keep the PRINT and HOLD buttons pressed
for only two seconds at the same time. The display will read , for exam-
ple: L H 2 (level 2)
That is to say, you will see the light level that had been previously cho-
sen, as follows: Level 1; Level 2 (default); Level 3, being Level 1 the least intense and
Level 3 the most intense. By pressing the PRINT button you will be able to choose the
intensity according to your comfort. To store your choice in the memory press HOLD.
Automatic Shut-Off
The electronic circuits of the PD-150 are designed for conservation of battery power. After
20 seconds of inactivity the Fixation LED shuts off . If the inactivity of the instrument con-
tinues for a total of 1 minute and 20 seconds the unit turns completely off.
Low Voltage Indicator
The PD 150 is provided with a Low Voltage indicator circuit for monitoring the voltage of
the battery. A special icon ( ) appears on the LCD display indicating the voltage level.
This special feature allows the operator to change the battery in time, thus preventing
incorrect interpupillary distance measurements caused by low voltage conditions.
Instructions for use
Introduction
The Breitfeld & Schliekert PD-150 Digital Pupillometer provides the latest measurement
technology for calculating interpupillary distance and right/left nose-to-pupil distance for
short, middle and long range viewing distances.
PD-100 Operation
To operate the PD-150 perform the following steps:
1. Press the On/Off Button. The PD-150 starts a self-
test and a full display of the digits appears on the
screen as it checks the operation of the instrument.
Once the self-test has been successfully completed,
the Display will show the following pupillary distances: 31,0 – 62,0 – 31,0
2. Make sure that the Distance is set to infinity (∞).
3. Place the Forehead Rest gently against the patient’s forehead and set the Nose Support
onto the patient’s nose.
4. Set the Eye Selector to either right or left position and tell the patient to look at the
circular fixation light with that eye.
5. Look through the Operator’s Window and observe the corneal reflected light on the cen-
ter of the patient’s cornea. Then, press the Measurement Slide Buttons until the index
line is directly over the center of the corneal reflected light.
6. Set the Eye Selector to the opposite position and repeat the above procedure.
7. Observe the Digital Display and check the measurements. The right and left measure-
ments should be approximately equal, and the middle measurement should be the sum
of both measurements.
Adjustable Viewing Distance
After the right and left measurements are taken, the measurements for
medium and short ranges for the viewing distances can be obtained by
pressing the Distance Selecting Buttons.
Note: If the Hold Button is pressed before the medium and short
viewing distances are obtained, the measurement data on the Digital
Display will not change to reflect the shorter viewing distances.
Hold Measurement Data
Once the measurement data is obtained, the Hold Button may be pressed to prevent the
data on the Digital Display from changing if the Measurement Slide Button or the Distan-
ce Selecting Buttons are pressed accidentally. To suppress the hold measurement data
mode, press the Hold Button a second time.

Cleaning
Clean the external surfaces of the PD-150 with a mild soap solution. Perform the following
steps:
Note: Do not use alcohol or other strong cleaning solutions to clean the outer surface,
windows or screen of this instrument or damage to these parts may occur.
Note: Do not immerse the PD-150 in liquid or damage to the instrument may occur.
1- Use a soft clean cloth moistened with a mild soap solution and wipe the external surface
of this instrument.
2- If necessary, remove any residual soap solution using a moistened clean soft cloth.
3- Use a clean , dry soft cloth to dry the exterior of the PD-150.
Maintenance
The expected shelf product, based on the availability of spare parts, life has been set at 10
years from the date of manufacture. If the equipment is properly used in accordance with
the instructions in the user’s guide, preventing bumps or rough handling and keeping it in
its original case, it will not need servicing nor calibrating in its lifetime.
Procedure
When the unit indicates low voltage by displaying a special icon ( ) on the Digital Dis-
play or the battery is rundown and the unit does not turn on, perform the following steps:
Battery Change
1- Remove the battery lid.
2- Remove the battery and replace it with a new battery.
3- Put the battery lid into its original position.
This is the only maintenance procedure that can be performed by the user on the PD-100.

Warranty
This product is warranted by 3B Optic Instruments for a period of one year from the date
of invoice to the original purchaser against faulty material or poor workmanship provided
the instrument is used in accordance with operating instructions. (Note: Authorized dealers
should not be considered original purchasers).
3B Optic Instruments ’ liability under this warranty is limited to replacing or repairing the
defective part or product at 3B Optic Instruments discretion.
This warranty applies to new products and does not apply to products which have been al-
tered in any way, damaged due to improper use, inadequate maintenance, disregard of ope-
rating instructions or which have the serial number removed, altered or effaced. Nor shall
this warranty be extended to products which have been sold, serviced, installed or repaired

Claims for damages in transit
3B Optic Instruments shipping responsibility ceases with the safe delivery in good con-
dition to the transportation company. Claims for loss or damage in transit should be made
directly and immediately to the transportation company.
If, upon delivery, the outside of the packing case shows evidence of rough handling or
damage, a “Received in Bad Order” notation on the delivery receipt should be requested
to the transportation Company’s agent. If within 48 hours of delivery, concealed damage is
noted upon unpacking the shipment and no exterior evidence of rough handling is apparent,
the transportation company should be requested to make a “Bad Order” report. This proce-
dure is essential for the dealer to maintain the right of recovery from the carrier.
